Account-wide the Leatherworker unlock |
Blizzard confirmed more than 600 new recipes across all professions and level ranges, alongside advanced profession Blueprints from dungeon bosses and the new Camping system. Leatherworking is one of the professions that directly uses those campsite workstations for advanced crafting.
Many existing Leatherworking recipes also have different skill-up ranges from Classic. Because of this, an old Vanilla or Classic 1–300 Leatherworking route should not automatically be assumed to work efficiently in Forever.
WoW Forever Leatherworking specializations
WoW Forever retains the three traditional Leatherworking specializations.
|
Specialization |
Main focus |
|---|---|
|
Dragonscale Leatherworking |
Mail armor made from dragon scales |
|
Elemental Leatherworking |
Leather gear using elemental materials |
|
Tribal Leatherworking |
Leather armor made from rare beasts and specialized materials |
The specializations remain recognizable, but several of their existing items have been redesigned. Dragonscale armor, for example, has shifted away from being primarily resistance gear toward clearer role-based stat profiles, with Green, Blue, and Black Dragonscale equipment supporting different types of characters.
Elemental Leatherworking continues to use materials obtained from elemental creatures, while Tribal retains iconic recipes such as Wolfshead Helm and several high-level beast-themed pieces.
The specialization systems are still only partially testable because their progression reaches beyond the current Level 30 Beta cap. In Classic, specialization quests generally appeared around Level 40 and 225 Leatherworking, but the final Forever requirements should remain TBA until higher-level profession progression can be verified directly.
New Leatherworking recipes in WoW Forever

Leatherworking currently has 277 recipes marked as new to WoW Forever, covering leveling equipment, role-specific armor, Armor Kits, bags, utility items, Camping objects, and high-level crafts.
One of the biggest changes is how early useful equipment begins appearing. Instead of waiting until high profession skill for most interesting crafts, Forever adds new gear families throughout the leveling journey.
New Leatherworking armor sets
The new armor families cover physical DPS, tanks, spellcasters, healers, and hybrid characters.

Leather / Mail |
Spell damage, healing, Intellect |
|
Skirmisher’s |
|
Physical / hybrid stats |
|
Stalker’s |
|
Agility, Intellect, Stamina |
These families give Leatherworking significantly broader coverage than original Classic. Wisdom’s and Mender’s equipment provides options for healers, while Brawler’s, Skulker’s, and Stalker’s pieces support physical builds.
Individual pieces can vary within each family, so the set name should be treated as a general indication rather than proof that every item has exactly the same secondary stat combination.
For example, Wisdom’s Leather Gloves currently provide Intellect, Stamina, Spell Damage, and increased healing, while Brawler’s Leather Belt provides Strength, Agility, and Stamina.
Notable new Leatherworking patterns
Merchant’s Favor vendors provide some of the easiest new patterns to target deliberately, while other recipes come from trainers, specialization content, dungeons, world drops, and additional activities.

Early profession patterns generally cost 30 Merchant’s Favor, while later recipes increase to 60 or 90 and can also require higher reputation with the appropriate trade faction.
New Armor Kits are another important part of the profession. Forceful Armor Kits add Attack Power alongside Armor, while Mystic Armor Kits provide Spell Power alongside Armor. These progress through several material tiers as Leatherworking skill increases.
WoW Forever Leatherworking perks
Leatherworking provides two notable profession-specific benefits beyond the items you can sell or trade.
|
Leatherworking perk |
Effect |
|---|---|
|
Personal Bracer Armor Kits |
Additional Attack Power, Spell Power, or Stamina |
|
Custom Saddle |
Up to 5% increased mounted movement speed |
These bonuses help give the profession value even when crafted armor is temporarily replaced by dungeon or raid drops.
Leatherworking Bracer Armor Kits
Leatherworkers gain access to stronger personal bracer enhancements with three general stat options:
- Attack Power for physical damage builds.
- Spell Power for casters and hybrids.
- Stamina for additional survivability.
These are separate from the standard Armor Kits Leatherworkers can craft for equipment. Standard Forever Armor Kits include offensive options such as Forceful kits for Attack Power and Mystic kits for Spell Power.
The precise skill thresholds, final values, and names of all personal bracer enhancements remain subject to Beta changes.
Leatherworking custom Saddle
Leatherworkers can also gain a custom Saddle that increases mounted movement speed by up to 5% at maximum profession progression.
The benefit is useful for virtually any character, especially while farming materials, traveling between quest objectives, or moving through Azeroth before widespread fast-travel options become available.
Its complete crafting and progression requirements are not yet documented consistently enough to treat as final, so those details remain TBA.
Leatherworking campsite features

Leatherworking contributes three objects to the WoW Forever Camping system.
|
Camp item |
Skill |
Materials |
Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Camp Tent |
20 |
5 Light Leather |
Raises Rested XP to 5% of the current level |
|
Tanning Rack |
140 |
5 Medium Leather, 3 Fine Thread, 2 Simple Wood |
Enables certain Leatherworking crafts and retains Camp Tent benefit |
|
Sewing Machine |
300 |
1 Undeath Engine, 5 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune Thread |
Enables advanced recipes and retains Camp Tent benefit |
The Camp Tent is learned at Leatherworking 20 from a profession trainer or through the Camping introduction. Players resting near the campsite can build Rested XP up to 5% of their current level, provided they do not already have more than that amount.
At skill 140, the Tanning Rack becomes the profession’s first crafting workstation. Current Beta data places Blueprint: Tanning Rack on Razorclaw the Butcher in Shadowfang Keep.
The Sewing Machine unlocks at 300 and is required for selected high-level Leatherworking recipes. Its Blueprint exists in the current client, but the drop source remains TBA.
Higher-tier objects retain the Camp Tent benefit, meaning you do not sacrifice the Rested XP utility when replacing the Tent with a Tanning Rack or Sewing Machine. Each player can contribute one campsite object, and profession objects share the Camping system’s one-hour placement cooldown.
How to unlock Leatherworking recipes
Not every Leatherworking pattern comes directly from a trainer. Forever spreads recipes across several types of content.

Dragonscale, Elemental, or Tribal recipes |
Blizzard specifically designed advanced profession Blueprints to come from dungeon bosses, tying crafting progression directly to adventuring. The Tanning Rack is an example of this system.
Some advanced Leatherworking recipes also require a Tanning Rack or Sewing Machine, making campsite progression part of the profession itself rather than merely an optional buff system.
Merchant’s Favor and Leatherworking recipes

Merchant’s Favor is one of the most important new sources of Leatherworking patterns in WoW Forever.
Alliance players work with the Azeroth Commerce Authority, while Horde players use Durotar Supply and Logistics. Waylaid Supply Crates provide Merchant’s Favor, while Craftsman’s Writs increase reputation with the corresponding faction.
The current Beta database lists 81 Leatherworking patterns purchased with Merchant’s Favor, giving Leatherworking one of the largest profession inventories offered through these vendors.

|---|---|---|
|

|

Leatherworking Certification |
Higher-skill patterns can also require Friendly or Honored reputation, creating a second progression gate beyond simply raising Leatherworking.
At 300 Leatherworking, you can purchase Leatherworking Certification for 1,000 Merchant’s Favor.
Using it permanently unlocks the account-wide title:
the Leatherworker
Characters that want to display the title must themselves have 300 Leatherworking.
Craftsman’s Writs
Craftsman’s Writs form the reputation side of the trade-faction system.
A Sealed Writ generates a crafting order asking for a specific item. Leatherworking examples include Fine Leather Pants, Thick Leather Ammo Pouch, Runic Leather Headband, Frostsaber Boots, and Heavy Scorpid Helm.
Completing the order rewards faction reputation rather than Merchant’s Favor. Higher Writ tiers also provide more reputation:
|
Writ tier |
Reputation |
|---|---|
|
Journeyman |
75 |
|
Expert |
125 |
|
Artisan |
200 |
This creates a simple profession loop:
Waylaid Supply Crates → Merchant’s Favor → buy patterns
Craftsman’s Writs → reputation → unlock higher rewards
Leatherworking Legacy rewards and perks

Leatherworking contributes directly to the WoW Forever Legacy System.
The first time your account reaches each major Leatherworking milestone, you earn one Legacy Point:
|
Leatherworking milestone |
Legacy reward |
|---|---|
|
150 Leatherworking |
1 Legacy Point |
|
225 Leatherworking |
1 Legacy Point |
|
300 Leatherworking |
1 Legacy Point |
Blizzard awards these milestones to every non-gathering primary profession. Across the six crafting professions, tradeskills can provide 18 Legacy Points in total.
Several Legacy perks directly help Leatherworking:
|
Legacy perk |
Leatherworking benefit |
|---|---|
|
Working Overtime |
Increases the chance to gain profession skill points |
|
Dedicated Study |
Provides a daily skill increase for eligible tradeskills |
|
Bartering |
Reduces vendor purchase prices |
|
Performance Bonus |
Chance to gain additional Merchant’s Favor |
|
Field Guide |
Reduces campsite feature cooldowns |
|
Permanence |
Extends applicable party, raid, and Camping buffs |
|
Reagent Economy |
Removes reagent costs from Tier 1 campsite features |
Working Overtime is especially useful for a material-heavy profession like Leatherworking. Better skill-up chances reduce the average number of hides, leather, thread, and other materials required to reach the next skill bracket.
How to level Leatherworking in WoW Forever
Leatherworking retains the familiar four profession ranks and a maximum skill of 300.
|
Rank |
Skill cap |
Skill required |
Character level |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Apprentice |
75 |
0 |

|
Expert |
225 |
125 |
20 |
|
Artisan |
300 |
200 |
35 |
These are the current Beta requirements. Artisan progression remains harder to validate directly because the Beta character cap is below its Level 35 training requirement.
For the overview article, the most useful leveling route is:
|
Skill range |
Recommended crafting focus |
|---|---|
|
1–75 |
Light Leather, Light Armor Kits, early Leather equipment |
|
75–150 |
Medium Leather, cured hides, bags, leveling armor |
|
150–225 |
Heavy and Thick Leather, Armor Kits, useful equipment |
|
225–300 |
Rugged Leather, specialization crafts, advanced Armor Kits and gear |
Players should not blindly follow an old Classic Leatherworking route. A large number of existing recipes have changed skill-up windows, meaning recipes may turn yellow, green, or gray earlier than expected.

Skyborne characters also have Leatherworking trainers in their new starting areas, so they do not need to leave their opening progression simply to begin the profession.
Artisan training currently requires 200 Leatherworking and character Level 35, allowing progression beyond the Expert cap of 225.
And that wraps up our WoW Forever Leatherworking guide. The profession receives 277 new recipes in the current Beta, 81 Merchant’s Favor patterns, new Leather and Mail armor families, personal bracer enhancements, a mounted-speed Saddle, three campsite objects, profession titles, and Legacy progression.
WoW Forever Leatherworking FAQ
What is the best profession to pair with Leatherworking?
Leatherworking consumes large quantities of leather, hides, and scales, so gathering your own materials can significantly reduce the cost of leveling. Skinning is also easy to progress while questing because beasts appear throughout Azeroth.
Higher-level recipes still require materials that Skinning cannot provide, including threads, dyes, elemental reagents, enchanting materials, and rare Forever resources. You will therefore still interact with the Auction House and other professions.
Which classes benefit most from Leatherworking?
Leatherworking is particularly attractive for Druids, Rogues, Hunters, and Shamans because they can use much of the Leather or Mail equipment the profession produces.
The profession is not restricted to those classes, however. Personal bracer enhancements, the custom Saddle, Camping utility, profession titles, and selling crafted gear can provide value regardless of your armor type.
