WoW Forever Alliance racial reworks

Blizzard has significantly changed several traditional Alliance racials, particularly weapon specializations and abilities that previously offered limited benefits outside specific classes.
Human racials
Humans retain several familiar abilities, but weapon specialization now provides Critical Strike instead of Vanilla weapon skill.

The biggest change is Sword Specialization. Rather than providing weapon skill, it now benefits abilities and spells as long as you have a sword equipped.
Dwarf racials
Dwarves keep Stoneform but receive several important updates.
|
Racial |
Type |

|
Stoneform |

Elune’s Light gives Night Elves a direct offensive racial that they lacked in original Vanilla WoW.

Orc racials
Orcs keep their aggressive racial identity while gaining Shatter Curse as a new defensive ability.

Cannibalize now restores Mana as well as Health, making the ability more useful for Priests, Mages, Warlocks, and the new Undead Paladins.
Will of the Forsaken still removes Charm, Fear, and Sleep, but Blizzard says it no longer provides temporary immunity after activation. Touch of the Grave is completely new and gives attacks and spells a chance to drain life from enemies.
Tauren racials
Tauren retain War Stomp while receiving improvements focused on survivability, gathering, and movement.

The biggest profession change is Cultivation. Rather than simply increasing Herbalism skill, Tauren can now discover bonus herbs even without learning the profession.
Troll racials
Trolls retain their Beast-focused identity and Berserking while gaining another strong regeneration ability.

The combination of Rapid Regeneration and the passive Regeneration racial gives Trolls considerably more self-sustain than their original Classic version.
Why Blizzard reworked WoW Forever racials

Blizzard wants racial abilities to remain meaningful without forcing every race into identical bonuses. The goal is for each race to have two active and two passive abilities, with a comparable amount of offensive power while preserving unique utility, defensive strengths, and flavorful situational bonuses.
This also explains changes such as:
- Weapon skill bonuses becoming Critical Strike effects
- Cannibalize restoring Mana
- Stoneform providing direct damage reduction
- Profession racials becoming more broadly useful
- New active abilities such as Eureka!, Shatter Curse, and Elune’s Light
The result is still recognizably Classic, but many racials should remain useful at level 60 rather than becoming obsolete as characters acquire better gear.
New WoW Forever race and class combinations
Racial reworks arrive alongside six new race and class combinations at launch:
- Gnome Priest
- Human Hunter
- Dwarf Shaman
- Orc Mage
- Troll Warlock
- Undead Paladin
Blizzard says more combinations are planned for future updates. Skyborne also have their own faction-dependent options. Both factions can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid, while Alliance Skyborne gain Mage and Horde Skyborne gain Shaman.
And that wraps up our WoW Forever racials overview! We’ll update this article as Blizzard adjusts racial abilities throughout Beta and confirms their final effects for launch.
