Key Takeaways

  • Level 30 is the current Beta cap: Mages currently have 21 standard talent points.
  • Arcane uses 21/0/0: Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage give the tree a complete DPS rotation much earlier than in original Classic.
  • Fire uses 0/21/0: Heating Up, formerly Hot Streak, rewards Fire critical strikes by shortening Pyroblast casts.
  • Frost uses 0/0/21: Ice Lance, Shatter, and Fingers of Frost make Frozen-target burst much stronger.
  • Frost is our general leveling recommendation: Its slows, freezes, and defensive tools provide the safest solo leveling experience.
Table of Contents

The best Mage talents in WoW Forever depend on whether you play Arcane, Fire, or Frost. Arcane revolves around Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage, Fire builds critical strikes into faster Pyroblasts, while Frost combines strong control with Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost.

The current WoW Forever Beta is capped at Level 30, giving Mages 21 standard talent points. Level 60 characters will eventually have 51 points, but full endgame builds should still be treated as preliminary while Beta tuning continues.

This WoW Forever Mage leveling guide covers the best current Level 30 talent builds, recommended leveling order, and what each specialization is building toward level 60.

Best WoW Forever Mage talent builds

Here are our recommended WoW Forever Mage builds for the current Level 30 Beta and their preliminary Level 60 directions:

Mage spec

Level 30 build

Level 60 direction

Playstyle

Arcane

21/0/0

41/10/0 preliminary

Arcane DPS

Fire

0/21/0

17/34/0 preliminary

Fire DPS

Frost

0/0/21

18/0/33 preliminary

Frost DPS & Control

All three Mage trees can function as complete DPS specializations in Forever. Arcane gets its own main damage loop through Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage, Fire converts critical strikes into faster Pyroblasts, and Frost gains Ice Lance as a direct payoff for freezing enemies.

The Level 30 builds can already be tested directly. Level 60 builds remain theorycraft and may change before release.

Best Arcane Mage talents in WoW Forever

The best Arcane Mage talent build at Level 30 is 21/0/0, putting every available point into Arcane.

Arcane is much more complete in WoW Forever than in original Classic. Arcane Blast becomes the spec’s primary damage spell, while Missile Barrage creates free and accelerated Arcane Missiles casts.

Talent

Arcane Concentration

Arcane Impact

3/3

Arcane Blast

Arcane Meditation

3/3

Missile Barrage

1/1

Presence of Mind

1/1

Arcane Blast increases the damage of your other spells by 10% per stack, up to four stacks, but also greatly increases the Mana cost of additional Arcane Blast casts. Missile Barrage gives Arcane Blast a 40% chance to make the next Arcane Missiles free, twice as fast, and fire missiles every 0.5 seconds.

This creates a clear risk-and-reward rotation: build Arcane Blast stacks, then consume their damage bonus with another spell while managing your Mana.

Arcane Mage leveling talents

For Arcane Mage leveling, use this progression:

Levels

Talent progression

10–11

Wand Specialization 2/2

12–16

Improved Channeling 5/5

17–19

Arcane Concentration 3/5

20

Arcane Blast 1/1

21–22

Finish Arcane Concentration 5/5

23–25

Arcane Impact 3/3

26–28

Arcane Meditation 3/3

29

Missile Barrage 1/1

30

Presence of Mind 1/1

Before Arcane Blast becomes available, your Wand remains an important part of efficient leveling.

Once Arcane Blast comes online, the specialization develops its actual Forever rotation. Arcane Meditation then improves sustained casting by allowing 50% of your normal Mana regeneration to continue while casting.

Presence of Mind becomes the Level 30 finishing point, allowing your next eligible spell to become instant.

Level 60 Arcane Mage build

The preliminary Level 60 Arcane Mage build is 41/10/0.

Deep Arcane eventually provides:

The remaining Fire points can strengthen Arcane Blast through talents such as Incineration, which increases the Critical Strike chance of several spells, including Arcane Blast.

Arcane Power becomes the major Level 60 burst cooldown, increasing spell damage at the cost of higher Mana consumption.

41/10/0 is a preliminary PvE direction, not a finalized launch build. Other Arcane distributions may become stronger once Level 60 encounters can actually be tested.

Best Fire Mage talents in WoW Forever

The best Fire Mage talent build at Level 30 is 0/21/0.

Fire focuses heavily on critical strikes, Ignite, Pyroblast, and Heating Up, the talent previously called Hot Streak during earlier Beta builds. Blizzard renamed the talent during the October Beta update.

Talent

Points

Improved Fireball

5/5

Wake of Fire

2/2

Incineration

3/3

Ignite

5/5

Pyroblast

1/1

Heating Up

1/1

Master of Elements

3/3

Critical Mass

1/3

Heating Up makes non-periodic critical strikes from Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Fire Blast, and Scorch reduce the cast time of your next Pyroblast by 25%. The effect stacks up to three times, turning a normally slow Pyroblast into a much faster cast.

Ignite adds additional damage after Fire critical strikes, while Master of Elements returns Mana when those critical strikes occur.

Together, these talents make Critical Strike increasingly important as Fire develops.

Fire Mage leveling talents

For Fire Mage leveling, use:

Levels

Talent progression

10–14

Improved Fireball 5/5

15–16

Wake of Fire 2/2

17–19

Incineration 3/3

20

Pyroblast 1/1

21–24

Ignite 4/5

25

Heating Up 1/1

26

Finish Ignite 5/5

27–29

Master of Elements 3/3

30

Critical Mass 1/3

Improved Fireball immediately speeds up your primary spell, while Wake of Fire improves Fire Blast and rewards chaining enemies together during leveling.

Pyroblast becomes your long-range opener, and Heating Up later adds a second use: accumulated Fire critical strikes can dramatically shorten your next Pyroblast cast.

Fire kills enemies quickly but generally offers less control than Frost, making positioning and Frost Nova more important when enemies reach melee range.

Level 60 Fire Mage build

A strong preliminary Level 60 Fire Mage build is 17/34/0.

Deep Fire eventually adds:

Combustion remains Fire’s major offensive cooldown, building additional Fire Critical Strike chance until its critical-strike charges are consumed.

Fire also learns Frostfire Bolt at Level 40. Frostfire Bolt counts as both Fire and Frost damage and slows the target, allowing it to benefit from relevant Fire effects while adding some Frost-style control.

The remaining Arcane points provide additional Mana management and general spell utility.

17/34/0 should still be treated as preliminary, especially because several different Arcane/Fire splits are currently possible.

Best Frost Mage talents in WoW Forever

The best Frost Mage talent build at Level 30 is 0/0/21.

Frost remains the strongest Mage tree for controlling enemies, but Forever gives it considerably more burst through Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost.

Talent

Points

Improved Frostbolt

5/5

Elemental Precision

2/5

Frostbite

3/3

Ice Shards

5/5

Ice Lance

1/1

Shatter

3/3

Ice Block

1/1

Fingers of Frost

1/2

Ice Lance is an instant Frost spell that deals 300% increased damage against Frozen targets. This immediately gives Frost Nova and Frostbite much greater offensive value than they had in original Classic.

Fingers of Frost pushes the mechanic further. Your Chill effects gain a chance to make your next spell treat its target as Frozen even when the enemy is still moving, allowing Ice Lance and Shatter bonuses to work without an actual root.

Frost Mage leveling talents

For Frost Mage leveling, use:

Levels

Talent progression

10–14

Improved Frostbolt 5/5

15–17

Frostbite 3/3

18–19

Elemental Precision 2/5

20

Ice Lance 1/1

21–24

Ice Shards 4/5

25–27

Shatter 3/3

28

Ice Block 1/1

29

Finish Ice Shards 5/5

30

Fingers of Frost 1/2

Improved Frostbolt reduces the cast time of your main leveling spell, while Frostbite gives Chill effects a chance to completely freeze enemies.

Once Ice Lance is available, those random freezes become powerful damage windows.

Shatter then greatly increases Critical Strike chance against Frozen targets, while Fingers of Frost gives Frost the same interaction even when a target cannot be rooted.

This combination of slows, freezes, and burst is the main reason Frost remains so comfortable for solo leveling.

Level 60 Frost Mage build

A strong preliminary Level 60 Frost Mage build is 18/0/33.

Deep Frost provides:

The supporting Arcane points can improve spell hit, Clearcasting, Mana efficiency, and other general caster bonuses.

18/0/33 is one of the most common current Frost directions, although deeper 41-point Frost leveling setups are also possible if you value maximum control and Ice Barrier progression over Arcane support.

As with the other specs, the exact Level 60 split should remain preliminary until endgame content can be tested.

Best Mage spec for leveling in WoW Forever

For general solo questing, Frost is the best Mage leveling spec in WoW Forever.

Frostbolt slows enemies before they reach you, Frostbite and Frost Nova create Frozen targets, Ice Lance turns those freezes into burst damage, and Shatter dramatically increases your Critical Strike chance during those windows.

Arcane is much more viable than it was in original Classic. Arcane Blast gives the spec a real core spell, while Arcane Concentration, Arcane Meditation, and Missile Barrage help offset its heavy Mana consumption.

Fire offers the most aggressive playstyle. Improved Fireball, Ignite, Heating Up, and Pyroblast create strong burst, but Fire has fewer defensive talents and slows than Frost.

Mage leveling also depends heavily on Mana management. Regardless of specialization, efficient use of Conjure Water, Evocation, Wands, Frost Nova, Polymorph, and Blink can reduce downtime and make difficult pulls much safer.
