Smelt Heavy Thorium

Both recipes are trainer-taught in current Beta data.

Smelt Azerothium converts two Pitchblende and one Coal into an Azerothium Bar. Because Pitchblende is a Scarce resource rather than conventional ore, large-scale Azerothium production will depend heavily on gathering.

Smelt Heavy Thorium requires the skill-300 Molten Foundry instead of a normal Forge, directly linking high-level Mining production to the Camping system.

Heavy Thorium and Legionite

Heavy Thorium also feeds into another new crafting chain.

Transmute: Legionite material

Alchemists can turn these into Legionite Bars, which are then consumed by high-level Blacksmithing recipes. This creates direct material demand between Mining, Alchemy, and Blacksmithing.

Bronze smelting change

Forever also changes one familiar low-level recipe:

Smelt Bronze

1 Bronze Bar

2 Bronze Bars

One Copper Bar plus one Tin Bar now produces two Bronze Bars, improving material efficiency while leveling professions such as Blacksmithing and Engineering.

These three materials are specifically identified as Mining’s Scarce resources in current Beta data.

Smelting Pants

Smelting Pants gain a new Mining-related bonus in Forever, reducing the crafting time of several early smelting recipes by 25%.

Molten Foundry

300

5 Thorium Bars, 2 Dense Stone, 1 Truesilver Bar

Enables advanced smelting

All three require a nearby Campfire and share the normal one-hour Camping cooldown. Higher tiers retain the Lodestone effect.

Lodestone

The Lodestone unlocks at skill 20 and grants melee Attack Power to characters sitting near the campsite.

The bonus scales with character level and reaches 90 Attack Power at Level 60 in the current Beta data. It does not stack with Blessing of Might.

It is trainer-taught or obtained through the introductory Camping 101: Mining progression.

Rock Garden

The Rock Garden requires 140 Mining and generates a common Mining node over time while retaining the Lodestone buff.

Blueprint: Rock Garden currently lists Relic Guardian in Excavation Site: Wetlands as its source.

Its exact generation time, possible deposit pool, and number of harvests remain unconfirmed. Do not assume it can produce valuable endgame deposits such as Heavy Thorium Ore.

Molten Foundry

The Molten Foundry unlocks at Mining 300 and functions as the advanced smelting station required for Smelt Heavy Thorium.

Blueprint: Molten Foundry exists in the Beta client, but its acquisition source remains TBA.

Current Beta data contains eight Mining-related supply crate types covering Apprentice through Artisan ores and ingots. Each crate requires one of the displayed material options rather than every listed item.

This makes Mining especially convenient alongside Blacksmithing or Engineering, since Merchant’s Favor earned from gathered materials can fund recipes for the paired crafting profession.

Mining Legacy rewards and perks

Mining does not award Legacy Points directly for reaching 150, 225, or 300. Those profession milestones are associated with non-gathering primary professions.

Miners can still spend Legacy Points earned elsewhere on useful gathering bonuses.

Bountiful Harvest

Bountiful Harvest is the key Legacy perk for dedicated Miners.

Current Beta data gives it five ranks, increasing Scarce resource yield by 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Its bonus applies to Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning rather than ordinary ore quantities.

For Mining, this specifically makes Pyrite, Bauxite, and Pitchblende more attractive to farm.

Using it can teach Mining if you have an available primary profession slot and grants two Mining skill points up to a maximum of 15.

How to level Mining in WoW Forever

How to level Mining with smelting

Smelting can provide skill-ups through Mining 185, reducing the amount of open-world gathering needed early on.

Mining

Recommended smelting

1–65

Smelt Copper

65–75

Smelt Tin

75–100

Smelt Bronze

100–125

Smelt Silver

125–140

Smelt Iron

140–155

155–185

Smelt Gold

There is a gap from 140–155 where normal smelting no longer provides a straightforward progression path. After 185, gathering becomes the primary way to continue leveling.

For faster leveling, keep Find Minerals active, carry a Mining Pick, follow cliffs and caves, use smelting for early skill-ups, and save Pyrite, Bauxite, and Pitchblende for new crafting recipes.
