Blizzard explains how weekly caches in The War Within work
In its recent blue post, Blizzard explains how new weekly caches in The War Within work and the difference between them and those we have seen in Dragonflight.
On July 9, Blizzard shared with the community that in this week’s Beta build, weekly caches like Pinnacle Cache will reward you with Adventurer gear instead of Veteran one. It means that the first two caches you earn weekly from the following sources will give you a random piece of gear:
- Earthen Theater
- Awakening the Machine
- Spreading the Light
- Azj-Kahet Pacts
- Special Assignment World Quests
- The major Dornogal weekly quests
If you get one of the first two caches before The War Within Season 1 begins, you will receive some Adventurer gear. Once the Season starts, you will start getting Veteran gear instead.
Additionally, the first four caches you earn weekly from the sources above will give you 100 Coffer Key Fragments, which you can combine to get a Coffer Key to open Coffer Chests in Delves. These cache items might not have text explaining this, but if it mentions the first two having gear, the same rule will apply as well. Although this week’s build doesn’t have the “first four” rule, Blizzard should include it in the next one.
And what is the purpose of making these changes, you ask? According to the Developers, they want to depart from the Dragonflight system and invent something new. To get Veteran-quality gear in the current expansion outdoor content, you must meet specific requirements by earning reputation or completing a task, for instance. In The War Within, instead of being told what to do for weekly activity, you can choose your weekly ones out of a selection of choices to get the most Veteran gear.
Even though you must complete 4 out of the six to improve your Coffer Keys, you still can choose which tasks you prefer the most. This way, Blizzard wants players to feel more comfortable with outdoor activities. Since there might be locations or daily quests you cannot stand, which is completely fine, you do not have to bend over backward because this is the only way to get this reward.
This is a fantastic update because players have long missed freedom of choice in the game. We hope that these changes will benefit both players and the game, making it feel less like an obligatory second job simulation. What do you think of these changes?
