Remember, this tier list assumes equal gear and skill. Most players will perform better on a familiar spec than an unfamiliar meta pick.

Midnight tier list criteria

The War Within Season 2 DPS tier list Criteria

Note

This tier list won’t focus only on perfomance for DPS specs for Midnight, as the meta will evolve for Midnight Season 1, especially given how much Blizzard has changed classes.

Our tier list is based on Warcraft logs stats snapshots, multiple DPS rankings, and player feedback. This tier list assumes equal gear and player skill. In practice, most players will perform better on a spec they know well than on a higher-tier meta spec they’re unfamiliar with. Keep this in mind when choosing players for your group.

Here’s how the rankings break down in this Midnight specializations tier list:

Note

Like any live-service game, the WoW meta can shift with balance updates and tuning passes. We will update our Midnight DPS tier list when any significant changes occur.

Overall, class balance looks fairly solid, with only a few outliers. In most cases, these differences are likely tied to specs that require a higher level of execution and player skill to perform at their full potential.

Note

Not every raid run is recorded on Warcraft Logs, but most runs from competitive groups are captured. Keep in mind this snapshot can change due to Blizzard balance updates, player behavior, and other variables.

S-tier: Best DPS for Midnight

Best DPS War Within M+

Let’s start by looking at the best DPS specs to main in Midnight Season 1.

Survival Hunter

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Hunter.

Survival Hunter has received another major rework in Midnight. Takedown, Boomstick, and Wildfire Bomb give it strong priority damage and reliable AoE, making it effective in Mythic+ despite late beta nerfs. Although it lost abilities like Fury of the Eagle, the rework has left the spec stronger overall and firmly in S-tier.

Survival excels during add-heavy encounters, such as the Hungry Lasher waves in Algeth’ar Academy, while Takedown is useful for bursting dangerous priority targets. It also has improved durability through two charges of Survival of the Fittest and Fortitude of the Bear, though the removal of Implosive Trap slightly reduced its utility.

Frost Mage

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Mage.

Frost Mage remains a solid Mythic+ option in Midnight, offering reliable overall damage and very fast burst windows. While it is not dominating the meta, its consistent cleave, strong control, and ability to quickly eliminate priority targets make it a dependable third DPS choice.

Frost is also the strongest Mage specialization defensively thanks to Cold Snap, which has become more valuable after broader Mage utility and survivability nerfs. Its slows, freezes, and crowd control remain especially useful in dungeons with dangerous melee packs.

Frost Death Knight

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Frost DK.

Frost Death Knight is a strong Mythic+ option in Midnight, combining powerful 45-second burst windows with excellent priority cleave. Breath of Sindragosa, Frostwyrm’s Fury, and Remorseless Winter make it especially effective during large pulls, although its overall value remains heavily dependent on damage tuning.

This damage profile is ideal for encounters like the Overgrown Ancient in Algeth’ar Academy, where multiple Hungry Lashers can be grouped and destroyed alongside the boss. Death Grip helps gather stragglers, while Anti-Magic Shell, Anti-Magic Zone, and its naturally high durability make Frost extremely resilient in difficult keys.

Outlaw Rogue

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Rogue.

Outlaw Rogue is a reliable Mythic+ option in Midnight, specializing in sustained cleave rather than massive burst. Blade Flurry allows it to maintain strong damage on stacked, medium-sized pulls while continuing to focus dangerous priority targets, making it especially consistent in unpredictable groups.

Its utility is valuable throughout the dungeon pool. Shiv can remove Blood Frenzy in Maisara Caverns and Battle Rage in Seat of the Triumvirate, while Cloak of Shadows can safely handle Vexamus’ Arcane Orbs in Algeth’ar Academy. Kick, stuns, Tricks of the Trade, and Shroud of Concealment further help control packs and enable safer routes.

A-tier: Strong DPS in Midnight

Here is the list of good-performing specs in Midnight, based on recent balance changes and Warcraft logs. You could even call them top DPS Midnight specs to main.

Devourer Demon Hunter

Devourer Demon Hunter is Midnight’s poster boy. Its AoE scales extremely well with additional targets, while flexible cooldowns give it damage on almost every pull. As the expansion’s flagship new spec, Blizzard is also likely to keep it competitive and quickly address weak tuning.

Devourer is particularly strong on large Windrunner Spire pulls, where its piercing beams and Collapsing Star can destroy stacked Archers and Dragonhawks. Consume Magic also removes Bolstering Flames from Territorial Dragonhawks, while Soul Cleanse can remove Curse of Darkness during the Derelict Duo encounter.

Demonology Warlock

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Warlock.

Demonology Warlock is one of Midnight’s strongest ranged Mythic+ specs, using Hand of Gul’dan, Call Dreadstalkers, and Summon Demonic Tyrant to overwhelm enemies with demons. Vilefiend is now built into Dreadstalkers and Tyrant requires less preparation, giving the spec smoother burst and reliable damage across consecutive pulls.

Demonology performs especially well during the large Overgrown Ancient pull in Algeth’ar Academy, where Felguard cleave and Implosion can destroy grouped Lashers. In Seat of the Triumvirate, Curse of Exhaustion slows Coalesced Void adds on Zuraal.

Windwalker Monk

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Monk.

Windwalker Monk is a strong Mythic+ spec in Midnight, delivering frequent AoE bursts through Fists of Fury, Strike of the Windlord, Whirling Dragon Punch, and Spinning Crane Kick. Its flexible cooldowns provide damage for nearly every pull, while excellent mobility lets it maintain uptime through movement-heavy encounters.

Windwalker shines during the large opening pulls of Windrunner Spire, where its cleave and Leg Sweep can quickly control stacked enemies and stop Territorial Dragonhawks’ Fire Spit. Tiger’s Lust is also valuable in Pit of Saron, removing Permeating Cold’s damaging slow, while Ring of Peace and Detox give the spec additional answers throughout the dungeon pool.

Marksmanship Hunter

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Hunter.

Marksmanship Hunter in MidMarksmanship Hunter is one of Midnight’s strongest ranged Mythic+ specs, using Aimed Shot, Rapid Fire, Volley, and Trueshot to deliver exceptional priority damage and explosive cleave. It excels on medium-sized pulls and bosses, although its damage scales less effectively when tanks gather extremely large packs.

Volley is excellent for destroying the Hungry Lashers during Overgrown Ancient in Algeth’ar Academy, while Trueshot can capitalize on Rak’tul’s Spectral Residue damage increase in Maisara Caverns. Binding Shot controls jumping enemies, Tranquilizing Shot removes dangerous enrages, and Feign Death can cancel targeted mechanics throughout the dungeon pool.night received on

Shadow Priest

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Priest.

Shadow Priest excels in longer Mythic+ pulls, where Tentacle Slam quickly spreads Vampiric Touch and enables strong Psychic Link cleave. Its priority damage remains excellent, though short-lived packs can die before the spec fully ramps.

In Maisara Caverns, Purify Disease can remove dangerous party-wide effects, while Mind Soothe enables safer routes in dungeons like Algeth’ar Academy. Mass Dispel, Vampiric Embrace, and Power Infusion add further group value.

Affliction Warlock

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Warlock.

Affliction Warlock excels in large, durable pulls, where Agony, Corruption, and repeated Seed of Corruption casts can ramp across every target. Summon Darkglare provides strong planned burst, but short-lived packs may die before its DoTs reach full value.

This makes Affliction excellent for Pit of Saron’s numerous large packs and the Hungry Lashers in Algeth’ar Academy. Curse of Exhaustion can control Zuraal’s Coalesced Void adds in Seat of the Triumvirate, while Shadowfury, Blight of Tongues, Healthstones, and Soulstone add valuable group utility.

Havoc Demon Hunter

DPS tier ranking in WoW: DH.

Havoc Demon Hunter remains competitive in Midnight, delivering frequent AoE burst through Eye Beam, Immolation Aura, and Demonsurge. Its damage requires little setup, while Fel Rush and Vengeful Retreat provide excellent uptime in movement-heavy encounters.

In Nexus-Point Xenas, Havoc can save Metamorphosis for Corewarden Nysarra’s massive damage-increase phase. In Windrunner Spire, Consume Magic removes Bolstering Flames, while Chaos Nova and Imprison can stop dangerous Fire Spit channels.

Destruction Warlock

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Warlock.

Destruction Warlock did not receive many major changes in Midnight and keeps its familiar identity. Rain of Fire and Summon Infernal provide strong AoE on durable, stacked pulls, while Havoc allows Chaos Bolt to pressure a second priority target. Its damage suffers when enemies move or packs die too quickly.

Pit of Saron’s large trash pulls give Destruction time to chain Rain of Fire, while Havoc is excellent during Saprish’s multi-target encounter in Seat of the Triumvirate. Curse of Exhaustion can slow Zuraal’s Coalesced Void adds, and Demonic Circle can negate Echo of Doragosa’s Power Vacuum.

Devastation Evoker

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Evoker.

Devastation Evoker remains a strong A-tier Mythic+ spec despite recent damage nerfs. Fire Breath, Eternity Surge, Pyre, and Dragonrage provide powerful uncapped AoE and solid boss damage, while Hover helps maintain uptime during movement-heavy pulls.

In Maisara Caverns, Deep Breath can stop Ritual Sacrifice, while Cauterizing Flame removes Flanking Spear and Infected Pinions. Its AoE is also excellent for Windrunner Spire’s large packs, with Zephyr reducing damage from Spore Dispersal and Pulsing Shriek.

Unholy Death Knight

DPS tier ranking in WoW: UDK.

Unholy Death Knight performs best when pulls align with its powerful 45-second burst cycle. Festering Wounds and Apocalypse are gone, replaced by a smoother system where Festering Strike builds Lesser Ghouls and Scourge Strike summons them. Its strong boss damage also carries into AoE, though the spec remains highly dependent on tuning and proper cooldown usage.

Large Windrunner Spire pulls give Unholy plenty of targets for its diseases, ghouls, and Blightfall, while Death Grip helps stack troublesome ranged enemies. Anti-Magic Shell can safely handle Burning Gale tornadoes and several dangerous boss debuffs, with Anti-Magic Zone and Raise Ally adding valuable group utility.

B-tier: Decent DPS in Midnight

Valeera art work.
(Source: Blizzard)

These are decent specs to consider maining in Midnight.

Subtlety Rogue

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Rogue.

Subtlety Rogue in Midnight has been significantly reworked to be more accessible for newer players. However just like any other Rogue spec, Subtlety needs Haste to have more resources and stable DPS, and just like any other Rogue it lacks such attribute in Season 1 start. However, after recent tuning Subtlety started feeling a bit better.

Enhancement Shaman

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Ench Shaman.

Many players feel Enhancement Shaman in Midnight has been overly streamlined, making rotations more tunneled and reducing skill expression. However most Enchs can still perform good damage and it shows!

Fury Warrior

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Warrior.

Not much has changed for Fury Warrior, as the removed talents were mostly less viable options. The recent DPS tuning alone, however, has downgraded Fury Warrior into B tier.

Arms Warrior

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Warrior.

Just like Fury Warrior, Arms Warrior didn’t lose anything significant in Midnight. However recent tunings got him good and his overall DPS lowered.

Elemental Shaman

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Elem Shaman.

While most of the specs were tuned in some way, Elem stayed the same. This has powercrept him to C-Tier in our Midnight DPS tier list.

Assassination Rogue

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Rogue.

Assassination Rogue underwent a bad rework in Midn

Beast Mastery Hunter

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Hunter.

The Beast Mastery spec in Midnight has become even simpler, with fewer decisions, less versatility, and overall reduced complexity. Does it mean its damage output became less – no. BM Hunter is a great beginner friendly spec to go through Midnigh.

Balance Druid

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Druid.

Balance Druid in Midnight features a reworked Eclipse system, letting players actively trigger a 15-second Eclipse instead of relying on passive flips. This change offers little benefit to Moonkins, placing them in B tier.

Fire Mage

DPS tier ranking in WoW.

Fire Mage feels OK in the Midnight expansion and will receive some DPS adjustments.

Augmentation Evoker

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Evoker.

RWF has showed us that Augmentation is a great DPS spec in Midnight. Because of it’s buffs, Augmentation was constantly picked in the race.

Retribution Paladin

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Paladin.

Retribution Paladin in Midnight mostly stayed the same and with gear stats from Season 1 has secured place in S-tier of Midnight DPS tier list.

C-tier: DPS that didn’t change much

DPS tier list bad classes.

These specs currently struggle due to the lack of BiS or balancing issues. Their position is expected to change with full BiS or targeted buffs.

Arcane Mage

DPS tier ranking in WoW: Mage.

Arcane Mage has been slightly tuned for Midnight. Even so this spec still lacks stable DPS output, due to complexity and requirements of this spec.

Feral Druid

Feral Druid tier ranking.

Feral Druid in Midnight retains its bleed-centric melee gameplay, with core abilities like Rake, Rip, and Ferocious Bite remaining central. Overall Feral Druid DPS rankings have dropped while having pretty wild DPS distribution.

Midnight DPS Tier list FAQ

What is meta, and how is DPS tier list created?

Meta is a ranking based on real player statistics. It shows which specializations currently perform best in Mythic+, raids, and PvP. All data is based on Warcraft Logs.

The system analyzes DPS, HPS, utility, specialization popularity, and results from the selected period. Specs are then grouped into tiers:

S-tier: within 3% of the top result
A-tier: within 8%
B-tier: within 15%
C-tier: within 25%
D-tier: more than 25% behind

A tier represents how close a spec is to the best-performing option, not its exact ranking among every class. Specs with similar results are grouped together to avoid misleading differences between nearly equal performers.

How should I read the DPS tier list?

For the clearest overview, select the current week DPS or HPS snapshot. Treat each tier in the article as an indication of how close a specialization is to the top result rather than as an exact ranking.

S-tier does not mean a specialization is mandatory, while D-tier does not mean it is unplayable. Performance differences may be small and can depend heavily on player skill, group composition, encounter design, and the selected content.

What kind of retarded-ass drivel is this? “S-Tier Best Midnight DPS Spec: MM Hunter” followed by,
“We hope MM improves, but for now, consider BM Hunter, or even Survival if you have a well-geared weapon for them.”

So, it’s S-Tier, but you’re better off being BM or “even SV”. . . .??

druidsays:

that must be the crappiest dps tier list on this planet. balance druid S tier? wtf are you guys smoking – lol

Highwind
Highwindsays:

Hello! Thank you for your comment!

We are aware of the situation the Balance Druid is currently in regarding the spec’s performance in the raid.

Our tier list, however, is based on the class’s performance in Mythic+. There, Balance Druid feels way better. You are right, it is no longer an S-tier spec, but as rankings show, it is still a good one with a spot in the A-tier.

Currently, we are updating our tier list to show the situation in M+ after 4 weeks of Season 3.

Lukesays:

Arcane mages are C tier yet they are the top performing prio damage spec, included in god comps. I don’t think Author actually plays WoW…. lmfao

Alesays:

we should all agree that tier lists in beta are…questionable. Things will change weekly until the final release build comes out. Unless the author wants to actually compare ingame data(not just community opinions) on a weekly basis go test for yourself and see how it feels. or just wait for release 🙂

Hisissays:

j’avoue que placé le feral en bas hors qu’il fait plus de dégâts que l’arcane en mm+ actuellement sur la bêta joue t’il seulement a la bêta ?

JSsays:

So…Ele Shaman is the 5th best DPS and Resto Shaman is the best healer… yet Shaman is the worst ranked class??

Stevesays:

Have you just not seen the shaman rework? Ele is competing with arcane in ST and is destroying the AOE meters. Stone bulwark totem has fixed their survivability also.

Randysays:

agreed. the top 5 and top 3s don’t even coincide with the list, actually contradicts the rankings.
