Table of Contents
Ascendant Venomstones are one of the biggest endgame gearing additions in WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5. They let players push selected Season 2 weapons, trinkets, and necklaces beyond their normal upgrade caps.
The system is intended as late-season progression for characters already clearing difficult content. You must first unlock Venomstone drops, farm 10 stones, and fully upgrade the item you want to enhance before applying them.

What are Ascendant Venomstones

Ascendant Venomstones are a new Patch 12.1.5 upgrade currency and the Midnight Season 2 successor to Ascendant Voidcores. Collecting 10 Ascendant Venomstones allows you to increase the item level of an eligible Season 2:
- Weapon
- Trinket
- Necklace
The item must already be either fully upgraded Hero or Myth gear or a maximum-quality Tidal Crafted item. Blizzard introduced the system during the week of October 20, 2026.
After the upgrade, the item gains the Ascendant Venomforged designation and cannot be upgraded with Venomstones again.
How to unlock Venomstones
Visit Orin Straylight near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City.
Orin first offers:
- Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom
The quest requires three research items obtained from relevant Patch 12.1.5 content. Current live data lists Venomous Abyss raid bosses and Ancient Foes in the Vaults of Atal’Utek among the available sources. Once that research is complete, return to Orin for:
- Ascending with Venomstones
Completing this quest permanently unlocks Ascendant Venomstone drops across your Warband. The quest also awards your first Venomstone.

How to get Ascendant Venomstones

After completing Prismatic Potential, Orin eventually offers Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst. This unlocks Ascendant Venomstones drop from difficult Midnight Season 2 PvE content.

Blizzard officially confirms Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ +10 or higher, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Champion gear chests as the primary sources.
Note
Early live bugs prevented some intended sources from dropping Venomstones, but these issues were hotfixed. The post-hotfix source list now includes Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, Tier 11 Labyrinths, Heroic raid bosses, Nightmare Prey rewards, and Mythic+ +10 or higher.
Fastest way to farm Ascendant Venomstones
For players capable of comfortably clearing the content, Mythic+ +10 or higher is currently the best repeatable Venomstone farm. Every qualifying completed run guarantees an Ascendant Venomstone, and unlike raid bosses or weekly Nightmare Prey rewards, Mythic+ can be repeated without waiting for another weekly reset.
Mythic+ 10 and higher
Each completed +10 or higher dungeon awards one Ascendant Venomstone. This makes Mythic+ the preferred option if your goal is simply to reach another 10-stone upgrade as quickly as possible.
Heroic and Mythic raids
Every qualifying Heroic or Mythic raid boss awards a Venomstone. A full Heroic Venomous Abyss clear currently provides eight Venomstones. Heroic Nymrissa Wavecaller and Kith’ix can provide two additional stones, giving raiders a large amount of guaranteed weekly progress before they need to farm Mythic+.
Tier 11 Bountiful Delves
Opening a Tier 11 Bountiful Coffer awards an Ascendant Venomstone. You still need a Restored Coffer Key, so this method is limited by your available keys rather than being endlessly farmable.
Tier 11 Labyrinth of Kindo’jan
The new Labyrinth of Kindo’jan is one of the best Venomstone sources for solo players.
A complete nine-chamber Tier 11 run can reward three Bountiful Coffers, meaning a full clear can provide three Ascendant Venomstones if you have enough Restored Coffer Keys. The Labyrinth itself can be repeated, making spare keys particularly valuable for Venomstone farming.
For the full nine-chamber system, Kindo’jan, Journey progression, and Tier 11 rewards, check our WoW Midnight Labyrinth guide.
Nightmare Prey
Nightmare Prey provides another weekly source. The first two Nightmare Prey Hunts per week can provide a Nightmare Prey Champion Box containing one Ascendant Venomstone each.
Players who have progressed far enough through the Prey Journey can also obtain Afflicted Soul and Tormented Soul rewards. Their additional Nightmare Prey chests can contain another Venomstone, allowing up to four per week through these combined Prey rewards.
How to use Ascendant Venomstones

Once you have 10 Ascendant Venomstones, go to the Catalyst in Silvermoon City.
Your item must meet the following requirements:
|
Requirement |
Eligible |
|---|---|
|
Season 2 weapon |
Yes |
|
Season 2 trinket |
Yes |
|
Season 2 necklace |
Yes |
|
Fully upgraded Hero track |

Yes |
|
Maximum-quality Tidal Crafted |
Yes |
|

No |
|
Rings |
No |
|
Item level 344 Elevated Myth gear |
No |
For normal Hero and Myth items, you must first complete the regular upgrade track.
That means a Hero item must reach Hero 6/6, while a Myth item must reach Myth 6/6, before Venomstones can be applied. You cannot use Venomstones as a shortcut around Mistcrest upgrades.
Ascendant Venomforged item levels
Blizzard adjusted the final Venomforged item levels shortly after the system launched.
|
Gear type |
Before |
Ascendant Venomforged |
|---|---|---|
|
Hero Tidal Crafted |

321 |
328 |
|
Myth Tidal Crafted |
331 |
337 |
|
Myth 6/6 |

Normal Hero and Myth-track items therefore gain 7 item levels, while current Myth Tidal Crafted gear gains 6.
And that wraps up our Venomstone guide! If you’re struggling to obtain the best gear, a WoW Gearing Boosting will be a reliable way to give you the edge you need.
Ascendant Venomstone FAQ
What is Ascendant Venomforged gear?
Using 10 Venomstones adds the Ascendant Venomforged status to the upgraded item.
This is effectively the item’s final Venomstone upgrade. You cannot apply another stack of 10 stones to the same item to raise it again.
Because the upgrade is permanent and the currency takes time to farm, you should avoid spending Venomstones on a temporary weapon or trinket you expect to replace soon.
What gear cannot be upgraded with Ascendant Venomstones?
Not every Season 2 item qualifies.
Most importantly, item level 344 Elevated Myth gear cannot receive a Venomstone upgrade.
This includes eligible elevated Mythic drops from encounters such as The Coiled Altar and Ula’tek, which are already above the normal Myth Ascendant Venomforged cap of 341.
Venomstones also do not work on normal armor slots or rings. The system is specifically designed around weapons, trinkets, and necklaces.
Best items to upgrade with Ascendant Venomstones
For most DPS and healing specializations, the general priority is:
Myth weapon > long-term crafted weapon > BiS trinkets > necklace
Weapons generally receive the highest priority because weapon item level has a large effect on character throughput. Current class gearing recommendations across several specializations also consistently place Myth-track or crafted weapons ahead of trinkets and necklaces.
For dual-wielding classes, a strong off-hand can also become a high-priority upgrade.
