Bugs in Helldivers 2 Become a Threat

The developers are faced with another problem with bugs in Helldivers 2. And we’re not talking about the Terminids.

As reported earlier, despite the enormous popularity of Helldivers 2, the game is filled with various errors and glitches. For example, the recent Patch 01.000.203 didn’t fix much, or the exploit with Super Credits that spread quickly.

The Helldivers 2 community is worried about the ever-increasing number of bugs. Some players have expressed the opinion that Arrowhead should pause the release of updates in favor of the game’s health and bug fixes. However, in reality, it’s not that simple.

The other day, a Reddit user TheGentlemanCEO suggested that Sony is putting pressure on the Helldivers developers, setting strict deadlines for releasing the Premium Warbonds. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt then came under their post and commented on the situation with bugs in Helldivers 2.

“Let me add some context. Arrowhead is independently owned by people working at the studio and not swayed by shareholders in the traditional sense. Of course, we are in a great partnership with Sony where we agree on targets to hit, etc. But there isn’t a forcing function or requirement per se.”

The developer also explained that they are forced to keep players entertained while they’re fixing bugs, to remain competitive with other games in this niche.

“We want to deliver the best in the industry and we are calibrating our efforts of fixing vs new stuff. It’s easy to say “just fix, don’t add,” but the reality of the competitiveness in this industry is that we have to do both to stay relevant.”

In addition, it recently became known that the Helldivers 2 development team currently has about 100 employees. Of course, this is less than in giant studios with AAA projects, but Pilestedt believes that this number of people is quite enough.

“We are figuring it out, the demands and expectations on the studio are high, all eyes are on us, and we have a sole purpose — to make this the best live game you’ve ever played. We just need to find our stride and balance.

It’s a hot topic at the studio, and I’m sorry for the sloppy mistakes we’ve made as of recent.”

Further, Arrowhead’s CEO emphasized that this is not a defensive post and he believes their studio can do better.

Finding a balance between fixing bugs and adding new content is indeed not uncommon for online games. For example, such a popular game as Apex Legends, under the auspices of EA Games, also faced a similar situation in Season 20. The developers decided to make a “game health” season every year without releasing a new Legend. They also revise old characters, update gameplay, and fix bugs and glitches.

What do you think about the situation with bugs in Helldivers 2? Do they bother you, and do you agree with Arrowhead’s policies? Let us know in the comments!
