How many Contracts can I have active at once in Marathon?

Typically, you can have one active Contract, and two of your teammates can get other contracts that you can help to complete for more experience. You can swap them out in the persistent hub between deployments.

Do I lose Contract progress if I fail to extract?

It depends on the objective. Some contracts require you to complete all objectives in one raid, meaning if you fail to complete other objectives, you will have to start from the beginning. Other contracts have a requirement to extract with specific items, meaning you have to survive no matter what happens.
