Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword size has been reduced. Players are still confused about the reasons behind this change.

The release of The War Within pre-patch has been nothing less than challenging. Other than the disabled Warbank, players have been reporting various other issues. Some can be named are mounts unable to use Skyriding and problems withdrawing gold from the Guild bank. For a complete list of known issues at the moment, you may want to take a look at Blizzard’s official Patch 11.0 post. Yet, despite these problems, Blizzard has chosen to focus its resources on reducing the size of the Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword instead.

Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword size: Before and after

This decision has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among the community. Players feel Blizzard should have focused on addressing more pressing issues in The War Within pre-patch. The main frustration, however, is that Blizzard has removed the main selling point of the Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword without any explanation. Its exaggerated size was the main reason many players saved up their Trader’s Tender to get it from the Trading Post. And yet, its size has been reduced to half of what it was, even though it didn’t have any negative impact on gameplay.

Blizzard and their weapons’ sizes

The reason behind Blizzard’s decision to nerf Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword size remains unclear. After all, WoW’s weapon sizes have always been fantastical. Take this sword and dagger, for instance:

Although their sizes are quite similar, in reality, a dagger is typically much smaller than a one-handed sword. That’s why many players can’t tell which is which apart due to their matching length. That said, Blizzard has never been known for strict adherence to realism. Thus, the decision to reduce the size of the Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword has left many players puzzled.

Alternatives for Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword

While we await Blizzard’s resolution for the Valarjar Champion’s Greatsword size, fans of long two-handed swords might consider keeping an eye out for Zin’rokh, Destroyer of Worlds. Zin’rokh is an exceptionally rare two-handed sword that can be obtained through Archaeology by solving Troll solves. Until now, it remains one of the longest and largest swords in the game.

Or, as suggested by our reader Cody, the two-handed sword Armageddon. This sword can be obtained from the Naxxramas raid, dropping from either The Four Horsemen or Gluth. Be warned though, its drop rate is extremely low.

If you’re looking for a blade similar in appearance to Armageddon but in a different color, or if luck isn’t on your side regarding Naxxramas’s drop rate, consider hunting for Sorrowbane. This unique two-handed sword is hidden within the Theater of Pain in Shadowlands and can be obtained through specific interactions with certain items and NPCs. And, for fans of Berserk, it’s a must-have weapon to pull off the Guts’s transmog.
