The War Within Hallow’s End 2025 guide

The Loot-Filled Pumpkin contains the event rewards and gives Tricky Treats as the holiday currency. The rarest drop is The Horseman’s Reins, and your first kill of the day has the highest chance to award it. After that first attempt, the drop rate drops sharply, so farming beyond the daily kill is effectively pointless.
Other rare drops from the pumpkin include Scarlet Key, Arfus, Hallowed Helm, Sinister Squashling, The Horseman’s Horrific Hood, The Horseman’s Sinister Slicer, and a selection of masks. Your chance at these rare items is also tied to your first daily clear, and the bonus increases further if you completed the encounter with curses active and survived.
| Item name | Description |
|---|---|
| The Horseman’s Ring | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
| Seal of Ghoulish Glee | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
| Band of the Petrified Pumpkin | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
| Wicked Witch’s Signet | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
| The Horseman’s Sinister Slicer | Transmog |
| The Horseman’s Horrific Hood | Transmog |
| The Horseman’s Reins | Mount |
| Magic Broom | Instant Mount |
| Arfus | Pet |
| Sinister Squashling | Pet |
| Hallowed Helm | Transmog |
| Windborne Velocidrake: Hallow’s End Armor | Dragonriding Appeareance |
| Ensemble: The Horseman’s Ghoulish Collection | Transmog |

There is a Hardmode option for this encounter. Inside the dungeon, go left to find the Wickermen; lighting the smaller ones applies individual curses, while the large Wickerman in the middle activates all of them at once. These affixes only affect you personally and do not apply to your party, so the difficulty remains low.
Defeating the Headless Horseman with curses active grants the Kickin’ With the Wick achievement. Each curse you survive on your first daily kill also increases your chance of receiving rare rewards from the Loot-Filled Pumpkin.
You must stay alive for the bonus to count, and there is no benefit to activating additional curses after your first successful attempt of the day.
Tricky Treats
During The War Within Hallow’s End, you’ll now find candy-filled pumpkins scattered around Azeroth (mostly in taverns). Activating one gives gold, Tricky Treats, snacks, and instantly completes a short auto-quest. These pumpkins are also required for zone-based “Trick or Treat” achievements, including locations in Khaz Algar, so this is a good time to finish them.
Tricky Treats can be turned in at faction vendors for various rewards:
Horde Vendors – Ruins of Lordaeron [68, 7]:
- Chub – candies and toys
- Darla – wands
- Farina – masks
- Woim – pets
Alliance Vendors – Outside Stormwind [32, 50]:
- Dorothy – candies and toys
- Stymie – wands
- Spanky – masks
- Pippi – pets
Collect Tricky Treats from pumpkins and trade them in for seasonal cosmetics, toys, wands, masks, and pets.

You can also pick up special holiday buffs during The War Within Hallow’s End. Alliance and Horde each get their own versions of the bonuses. By using the ashes from the ignited Wickerman bonfire outside Stormwind or the Undercity, you gain a one-hour XP and reputation buff. The XP portion only applies to mob kills, not quest turn-ins, while the reputation gain works on everything.
The XP buffs are Grim Visage for Horde and Unburdened for Alliance. Watching the Wickerman bonfire ceremony also grants a Stamina and Mastery buff: Decree of the Dark Lady for Horde and Greymane’s Resolve for Alliance.
These buffs stack with other XP bonuses, which makes the event especially useful for leveling alts during the holiday.
Shade of the Horseman event
While in villages like Karanos, Goldshire, and Azure, Watch while playing Alliance, or if you are playing Horde Razor Hill, Falconwing Square, or Brill for Horde, you can participate in the Shade of the Horseman event. It happens every half hour and lasts five minutes. While the event is active, Headless Horseman will damage the city where he is located, and your task will be to stop him from doing this.
The event happens in four phases, and at the end, you will fight the Shade of the Horseman. After successfully defeating Shade of the Horseman, there will drop a large Jack-o’-Lantern with the quest titled Smash the Pumpkin, which you can turn into a nearby Matron. The reward for this event is gold and a Crudely Wrapped Gift, which will contain candies and masks for your characters to use.

Hallow’s End achievements
Like other Holiday events, The War Within Hallow’s End features its meta-achievement Hallowed Be Thy Name, which also gives the player the tile of the Hallowed for their character.
Here is the list of all achievements and how to complete them:
| Achievements: | How to complete: |
|---|---|
| Trick or Treat! | Just loot one of the pumpkins with candies and you will complete it |
| Out With It | The amount you need to eat is random. Just eat until you get the achievement |
| Bring Me The Head of… Oh Wait | You need to Defeat Headless Horseman |
| The Saviour of Hallow’s End | Save one of the villages from Headless Horseman in Shade of the Horseman event |
| That Sparkling Smile | Just use a Tooth Pick |
| Rotten Hallow (Alliance) | You need to do Alliance Hallow’s End plotline |
| Rotten Hallow (Horde) | You need to do Horde Hallow’s End plotline |
| G.N.E.R.D. Rage | You need to earn 10 honorable kills while the G.N.E.R.D. buff from G.N.E.R.D.S candies is active. The easiest way to do this is to stack up on them and queue for a random BG. |
| Check Your Head | Use Weighted Jack-o’-Lanterns to put pumpkin heads on various races. It only counts races from classic to WoW timeline, so you don’t need to seek Pandaren players or Allied Races. |
| The Masquerade | You need to use wands and transform them into various creatures. The thing is that you can’t transform yourself with wands. Just find a friend or a random party member, so you can get and give this achievement. |
| Sinister Calling | You need to obtain Sinister Squashling and Hallowed Helm. |
| Tricks and Treats of Azeroth | Refer to the instruction above |
We should also note that Trick and Treats of Azeroth achievement requires you visit lots of locations. To quicker acquire this achievement we highly recommend you download the Handy Notes addon and its plugin for The War Within Hallow’s End. With these addons installed, you can see on your map where pumpkins are located in Azeroth and Outland.
Pumpkins will be marked on your map with coordinates, so you won’t lose them or skip pumpkins that you didn’t collect. Note that this achievement only requires you to collect pumpkins from Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Outland.
And that wraps up our article! If you’ll be having troubles with the event or retail activities, don’t forget to try out WoW boosting. Happy Hallow’s End!
