The War Within Hallow’s End guide
The War Within Hallow’s End is a Halloween-themed event in WoW that is now active up until November 8. It features its own Headless Horseman instance which you can queue up daily. It features such rewards as The Horseman’s Reins mount, cute undead dog pet Arfus, and a Patched Harvester Golem transmog set. And with this event recently marked on the calendar, players have noted that epic loot-filled pumpkins drop even for level 10 players.
These rewards drop from Loot-Filled Pumpkins, featuring Holiday’s currency Tricky Treats. The rarest reward from this is, of course, The Horseman’s Reins mount. You may bypass the system and get it by creating new characters that can queue up from level 10 into the dungeon. However, the highest chance of mount dropping is when you do it the first time in the day. After this attempt, the drop chance will decrease significantly, making it nigh impossible to farm the mount with this event. Other rare rewards are Scarlet Key, Arfus, Hallowed Helm, Sinister Squashling, The Horseman’s Horrific Hood, The Horseman’s sinister Slicer, and various masks.
Here is the full table of loot:
Item name | Description |
---|---|
The Horseman’s Ring | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
Seal of Ghoulish Glee | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
Band of the Petrified Pumpkin | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |
Wicked Witch’s Signet | The item level of the rings changes every year and depends on your level. |

There is also a Hardmode available for this instance. While in a dungeon, you can go to the left to activate affixes that increase the encounter’s difficulty. There are five Wickermen in total, four smaller ones and one large. Activating smaller ones will trigger one affix, and there are four in total. If you activate the one in the middle, all affixes will trigger. These affixes only affect you and don’t take effect on your party members, so the encounter will be easy.
If you defeat Headless Horseman in a Hardmode, you will get Kickin’ With the Wick achievement. By completing Headless Horseman with all curses you increase your chance to get rare rewards from daily Loot-Filled Pumpkin. Each curse stacks an increased chance for you to get the rewards on your first daily attempt. Note that you need to survive the encounter to achieve and increase the chance. Also, you should remember that there is no practical point in activating curses after getting your first attempt right.
Tricky Treats
It is not the only change that happens during The War Within Hallow’s End. The locations will feature candy-filled pumpkins that give some gold, Tricky Treats, and various snacks. These pumpkins will have a quest that will be auto-completed after activating a candy-filled pumpkin. These pumpkins appear anywhere in Azeroth, mostly in taverns, and will be available during the event. If you still need to do achievements featuring all Trick and Treats spots on particular zones like Khaz Algar, now is the time to do such achievements.
If you collect enough Tricky Treats, you can trade them to vendors for rewards. If you wish to spend Trick Treats, there are a lot of vendors for Horde and Alliance. The Horde side is located in the ruins of Lordaeron [68, 7]; Chub sells candies and toys, Darla sells wands, Farina sells masks, and Woim sells pets. If you play Alliance, you can locate these vendors outside of Stormwind [32, 50], and these vendors are Dorothy (candies and toys), Stymie (wands), Spanky (masks), and Pippi (pets).

You can also get holiday buffs at The War Within Hallow’s End. For this Holiday, buffs are separate for Alliance and Horde. You can earn XP and Reputation buff while using ashes of the ignited Wickerman bonfire outside the Undercity or Stormwind. This XP buff lasts for 1 hour and only works on mobs so you won’t get more XP from a quest completion; reputation buff works either way. The XP buffs are Grim Visage for Horde players and Unburdened for Alliance players. You can get Stamina and Mastery buff while watching the ignite of Wickerman bonfire. Decree of the Dark Lady for Horde players and Greymane’s Resolve for Alliance players. This buff stacks with other XP buffs so it will be a great addition for levelling your alts.
Shade of the Horseman event
While in villages like Karanos, Goldshire, and Azure, Watch while playing Alliance, or if you are playing Horde Razor Hill, Falconwing Square, or Brill for Horde, you can participate in the Shade of the Horseman event. It happens every half hour and lasts five minutes. While the event is active, Headless Horseman will damage the city where he is located, and your task will be to stop him from doing this.
The event happens in four phases, and at the end, you will fight the Shade of the Horseman. After successfully defeating Shade of the Horseman, there will drop a large Jack-o’-Lantern with the quest titled Smash the Pumpkin, which you can turn into a nearby Matron. The reward for this event is gold and a Crudely Wrapped Gift, which will contain candies and masks for your characters to use.

Hallow’s End achievements
Like other Holiday events, The War Within Hallow’s End features its meta-achievement Hallowed Be Thy Name, which also gives the player the tile of the Hallowed for their character.
Here is the list of all achievements and how to complete them
We should also note that Trick and Treats of Azeroth achievement requires you visit lotsof locations. To quicker acquire this achievement we highly recommend you download the Handy Notes addon and its plugin for The War Within Hallow’s End. With these addons installed, you can see on your map where pumpkins are located in Azeroth and Outland. Pumpkins will be marked on your map with coordinates, so you won’t lose them or skip pumpkins that you didn’t collect. Note that this achievement only requires you to collect pumpkins from Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Outland.
Achievements: | How to complete: |
---|---|
Trick or Treat! | Just loot one of the pumpkins with candies and you will complete it |
Out With It | The amount you need to eat is random. Just eat until you get the achievement |
Bring Me The Head of… Oh Wait | You need to Defeat Headless Horseman |
The Saviour of Hallow’s End | Save one of the villages from Headless Horseman in Shade of the Horseman event |
That Sparkling Smile | Just use a Tooth Pick |
Rotten Hallow (Alliance) | You need to do Alliance Hallow’s End plotline |
Rotten Hallow (Horde) | You need to do Horde Hallow’s End plotline |
G.N.E.R.D. Rage | You need to earn 10 honorable kills while the G.N.E.R.D. buff from G.N.E.R.D.S candies is active. The easiest way to do this is to stack up on them and queue for a random BG. |
Check Your Head | Use Weighted Jack-o’-Lanterns to put pumpkin heads on various races. It only counts races from classic to WoW timeline, so you don’t need to seek Pandaren players or Allied Races. |
The Masquerade | You need to use wands and transform them into various creatures. The thing is that you can’t transform yourself with wands. Just find a friend or a random party member, so you can get and give this achievement. |
Sinister Calling | You need to obtain Sinister Squashling and Hallowed Helm. |
Tricks and Treats of Azeroth | Refer to the instruction above |
The War Within Hallow’s End 2024 changes
With the release of this year’s The War Within Hallow’s End event, players have discovered that Epic loot-filled pumpkins are now dropping for level 10 players. Players can now queue with allied races toons immediately to try their luck for a mount and other rewards. With the event still going and this not being hot-fixed, this change is probably by design.
Although we don’t recommend brute-forcing your way to get the rarest rewards in Headless Horseman instance, you can do it. You can create an allied race character like Dark Iron Dwarf who starts at level 10 and immediately starts queuing for the dungeon in the LFG section. While the best chance for mount drop is only once in a day and the chance drops rapidly after the first attempt the chance is not zero. So if you’ve got enough times in your hands you can actually get Horseman’s Reins with this method.
Some new cosmetics are also being added. The Patched Harvester Golem transmog set is one of the newer transmog sets that drops through Headless Horseman Instance and from candy buckets. Other cosmetic items are Patched Harvester’s Claw, Patched Harvest Golem’s post, Ensemble: Prowler’s Faded Headgear, and Prowler’s Faded Shoulder Cap. These can be purchased through candy and toy vendors during the event.
With the new zone added to Wow War Within expansion, we have a new achievement, Tricks and Treats of Khaz Algar. You need to find Jack-o-lanterns filled with candies in the new zones to get new achievements. We recommend using the TomTom add-on to navigate those coordinates quickly and the addons that we listed for the Achievements section.
Here are the locations of the new candy-filled pumpkins
