What is Nightfall in WoW The War Within?

Nightfall is an upcoming public scenario introduced in patch 11.1.5 of World of Warcraft: The War Within, set to release on April 22, 2025. This multi-phase PvE setup happens in Hallowfall. It’s connected to the Flame’s Radiance faction, who are engaged in a war against the shadow-infused Sureki force invading Khaz Algar.
Beyond its story significance, Nightfall is one of the most efficient sources of catch-up gear and cosmetics. It’s also a central progression tool since it directly supports:
- Renown track advancement with Flame’s Radiance
- Acquisition of Champion gear
- Unlocking a visually evolving tabard
- Earning a recolor of the Delver’s Dirigible mount
Nightfall scenario main gameplay mechanics

Nightfall scenarios happen at fixed locations marked on the world map by a grey, distinct icon resembling the Hallowfall Arathi’s faction symbol. Players can locate and participate in the scenario directly by traveling to the marked area without queuing or matchmaking.
The gameplay loop includes the following mechanics:
- Each Nightfall has several goals: Defeat elite units, capture points, destroy enemy constructs, and protect Arathi assets. The objectives rotate between runs.
- No formal queue or raid requirement: Any player in the zone can participate, and credit is granted based on activity. Contribution includes damage dealt, objectives completed, and support actions.
- Environmental hazards: Zones are filled with dangers. There are corruption fields, void anomalies, and terrain effects that slow movement. Players must change their position and tactics to survive.
The event resets on a timer and rotates between zones, with a cooldown between completions to prevent overfarming.
Note
Nightfall is fully accessible to solo players. There’s no requirement to join a party or raid. However, many players prefer using the Group Finder to join organized public groups.
This often leads to faster progression, as the group spreads out more efficiently across task force zones, clears objectives simultaneously, and handles elite enemies with better coordination. Grouped players typically fill the progress bar quicker, unlocking the final boss phase sooner and increasing the odds of reaching the top reward tier.
Nightfall scenario duration

Each Nightfall event lasts approximately 15–20 minutes and appears on a rotating schedule several times per day. Once active, the zone becomes a battlefield divided into multiple task force objectives. Players will be automatically assigned to a task force where they must:
- Eliminate elite Sureki commanders
- Disrupt enemy rituals and energy pylons
- Defend key Arathi outposts
- Escort flamebound NPCs to safety
Progress bar

The event has a dynamic global progress bar that tracks the combined efforts of all players present in the event zone. As you complete objectives and defeat enemies, the global meter goes up. When the bar fills, a final boss encounter unlocks. Completing all stages grants access to rare loot and Flame’s Radiance Renown.
The progress bar is divided into tiers, and reaching each threshold unlocks corresponding rewards:
- Tier 1 (33%): Grants the Arathi Soldier’s Coffer, containing basic rewards such as Resonance Crystals.
- Tier 2 (66%): Unlocks the Arathi Cleric’s Chest, offering improved loot, including additional Resonance Crystals and a chance at Warbound gear.
- Tier 3 (100%): Completing the bar summons the final boss, and defeating it rewards players with the Arathi Champion’s Spoils, which includes the Radiant Service Satchel. This satchel is the sole source of Radiant Emblems, essential for purchasing high-tier gear and exclusive cosmetics.
Nightfall-related quests: What to complete and why it matters

Participating in Nightfall for the first time triggers a short introductory quest connected to the Flame’s Radiance faction. This quest explains the core mechanics of the scenario, introduces task force objectives, and provides early access to Renown progression. It’s not mandatory, but completing it ensures you’re properly credited in the faction system and unlocks your first tier of vendor rewards.
Daily quests: Repeatable Flame’s Radiance tasks

Once unlocked, players gain access to three daily quests in Hallowfall that are tied to resisting Sureki influence:
- Eliminating specific elite mobs – Sureki Incursion: The Eastern Assault
- Disrupting ritual sites – Radiant Incursion: Rak-Zakaz
- Completing localized mini-objectives near event zones – Radiant Incursion: Toxins and Pheromones
Each completed daily grants a Confiscated Cultist’s Bag, which can contain:
- Cosmetic back pieces
- Random Veteran-quality gear from the Arathi set (purple recolor)
- A rare chance at the Void-Scarred Lynx mount via a special drop item
Dailies also grant Flame’s Radiance reputation, helping you advance your Renown without relying solely on the main scenario.
Weekly quest: Champion-level reward token

In addition to daily content, players can complete a weekly quest The Flame Burns Eternal, that tracks Nightfall scenario participation. Upon completion, you receive a Radiant Emblem of Service that can be redeemed for Arathi champion gear. The token can be mailed to alternate characters, making this one of the few reliable gearing routes for alts in patch 11.1.5.
Over time, these tokens also contribute to unlocking alternate color variations of the Flame-themed armor sold by faction vendors.
Nightfall scenario guide for boss phase

Nightfall final boss is always an Anub’Ranax. This boss always spawns in the center of the event zone during the last phase of the scenario.
To reach this phase, you’ll need to either reach 10 minutes or fill the event’s progress bar to 100%. Once that happens, there’s a short regrouping phase, followed by a massive wave of Sureki enemies. After a minute of combat, the Sureki Champion Anub’Ranax joins the battle.
Taking part in this fight unlocks the Radiant Service Satchel, which is the only source of Radiant Emblems. You need these emblems to buy high-tier gear and cosmetics.
Defeating Anub’Ranax also grants the following rewards:
- One full level of Service Award progression, making it the single most efficient way to advance through the Service Bar tiers during a single scenario run.
- 12 Resonance Crystals — awarded instantly upon the boss’s defeat
- 5 Weathered Undermine Crests — used in gear upgrade systems introduced in patch 11.1.5
- Chance to loot Warbound Veteran gear — item level ranges from 626 to 632, depending on your current progression tier and loot eligibility
Unlike traditional dungeon bosses, Anub’Ranax doesn’t require a group or raid setting. The loot is personal and doesn’t depend on rolling or master looting. However, active participation in the boss phase is required to qualify for all drops and credit.
Additionally, killing Anub’Ranax counts toward the completion of the weekly quest linked to Nightfall. This means participating in at least one successful scenario per week not only grants loot, but also ensures progress toward your Renown track.
Nightfall rewards and currencies

In patch 11.1.5, players can earn two key currencies in the Nightfall scenario:
- Resonance Crystals: You can earn Resonance Crystals by finishing tasks and beating Sureki enemies in the event. Resonance Crystals can be used to purchase valuable rewards, from item level upgrades to transmog sets and mount unlocks. This makes Nightfall especially useful not only for main characters but also for gearing alts, since the scenario is accessible, repeatable, and doesn’t require dungeon-level coordination.
- Radiant Emblems of Service: Drop from the Radiant Service Satchel after you defeat the final boss.
You can exchange these currencies with three vendors in the Veneration Grounds in Hallowfall at coordinates [28, 56]:
The scenario also ties into the Flame’s Radiance Renown track, capped at renown level 10. Daily quests linked to Sureki Incursions offer Confiscated Cultist’s Bags. You can get cosmetic back pieces from these. They include the Radiant Emblem of Service, Warbound gear, and the Shadowbound Leash item. The Shadowbound Leash summons the Void-Scarred Lynx mount.
