What is Kej used for?
Kej is a new Nerubian currency that you can exchange with various vendors all over Azj-Kahet, providing you with gear, mounts, pets, toys, profession recipes, decorative items, and many more.
Plus, to make getting around the City of Threads easier and deal with local vigilantes, you can spend this currency on such items as the Vizier’s Influence, General’s Insight, General’s Expertise, Weaver’s Facade, and the highly-priced Queen’s Pheromone, which costs 8,888,888 Kej.
Additionally, once you reach Renown 6 with the Severed Threads, you can purchase the Nerubian Pheromone Secreter. When activated, this trinket creates three pheromones around you in a triangle. Touching each one boosts your Primary stat by an amount shown on the trinket’s tooltip. The bonus increases with the item’s level and can stack up to three times if you touch all the pheromones.
The first pheromone triggers a 20-second buff called Nerubian Pheromones, and touching the others adds to the stack without extending the buff. The Nerubian Pheromone Secreter can be customized with special Fragrance Sockets, each boosting a specific Secondary Stat (Mastery, Haste, Critical Strike, or Versatility) based on the trinket’s item level and bought with Kej.
As you can see, this currency is quite valuable in The War Within, so it’s worth knowing what it’s used for, how to farm it, and where to spend it in the game.
Where to spend Kej
Kej can be spent at various merchants throughout Azj-Kahet, including the Shadow Bazaar. Located in the northern part of the City of Threads, this place hosts a variety of vendors and becomes available after you complete the campaign story and the introductory quests of this Nerubian city. While other parts of the City of Threads also have merchants, the Shadow Bazaar is considered the safest option for players. Here are the vendors you can spend Kej at:
- Lady Vinazian: She sells her wares in the Spinner’s Lair at [55.2, 41.2] and becomes available at Renown 2 with the Severed Threads.
- Yamas the Provider: It is located right next to Lady Vinazian at [55.2, 41.4] and offers slightly more generic items, many of which can also be purchased at the Shadow Bazaar.
- Ka’muko: If you want to reduce your Kej overabundance by exchanging this currency for Resonator Crystals or vice versa, you can find this merchant at [56.6, 43.0].
How to farm Kej in The War Within
You can earn Kej from a vast number of activities since it’s given to you fairly generously. Let’s find out how you can farm it in The War Within!
One-time Renown rewards
The first way to earn the currency is by increasing your reputation with the Severed Threads faction. You can do it by completing questlines and faction-specific world quests, defeating rare mobs in Azj-Kahet, and entering a pact with one of the leaders of the Severed Threads and completing their assignments. As you level up your reputation, you’ll occasionally receive Small, Large, and Overflowing Kej Wallets:
- Levels 3: Small Kej Wallet
- Levels 8: Small Kej Wallet
- Levels 10: Large Kej Wallet
- Levels 14: Large Kej Wallet
- Levels 18: Overflowing Kej Wallet
- Levels 22: Overflowing Kej Wallet
To reclaim your Kej Wallets, find Lady Vinazian in Azj-Kahet at [55.2, 41.2] and speak with her.
Paragon Chests
Once you max your Renown level, you’ll receive a Renowned with The Severed Threads emissary quest, rewarding you with an Overflowing Severed Threads Trove. Alongside potions, bandages, and other items, the Trove contains 2,250 Kej.
Although farming Paragon Chests like this one is one of the last things you’d like to do, it’s another great chance to earn this currency as you advance through these Renown levels.
Worldsoul quests
Here’s another trivial but precious way to farm Kej in The War Within. We suggest you complete the weekly quest called The Call of the Worldsoul. It allows you to do various objectives throughout Khaz Algar, such as world quests, dungeons, snuffling, etc.
Finishing it will reward you with a Pinnacle Cache with a chance to earn 400x Kej, which is quite decent. Remember that you can only do this once weekly per account, not per character.
Azj-Kahet quests
You can earn more Kej by advancing in the main storyline in Azj-Kahet and completing side quests in this zone. There are occasionally world quests and dailies, so check them as well, as they frequently offer decent Kej rewards.
Weekly Severed Threads Pact
Every week, you can Forge a Pact by speaking with Lady Vinazian and aligning with one of the three Severed Threads leaders: the Vizier, the General, or the Weaver. This pact is Warband-bound and unlocks a weekly quest, requiring you to do various activities in Azj-Kahet, like defeating rare enemies or completing world quests:
- The General: Blade of the General
- The Vizier: Hand of the Vizier
- The Weaver: Eyes of the Weaver
Completing one of these quests will reward you with 500x Kej alongside gear, formulae, recipes, Crests, or Restored Coffer Keys. If you choose the Vizier, you’ll receive a special buff called Vizier’s Savvy, which boosts your Kej gains by 10%, and another one called Vizier’s Supremacy with a 20% increase at or above. However, to qualify for this buff, you must achieve the status of Collaborator (Rank 5) or Abettor (Rank 7) with the Vizier.
Delver’s Call quests
If you have any alternative characters, you should definitely complete the following quests: Delver’s Call: Spiral Weave and Delver’s Call: Tak-Rethan Abyss. As you can see, you’ll need to finish these two Azj-Kahet Delves on any difficulty. Doing so can earn 300x Kej for each character, which is a fantastic way for those who enjoy playing alts to gather some extra currency!
Defeating rares in Azj-Kahet
Additionally, do not skip rares once you encounter one. Each one defeated earns you about 45x Kej, which is a decent way to gather some currency while exploring Azj-Kahet. We suggest using addons like HandyNotes and RareScanner to locate these rares quickly.
Weekly Dungeon quest
Every week, you can get a Stonevault or Darkflame Cleft quest from Biergoth in Dornogal at [46.4, 48.2]. Completing one of these for the first time gives you 1,500 reputation with a faction of your choice. If you repeat the quest with alternate characters, you’ll earn 115x Kej.
Snuffling
Snuffling, which you unlock at Renown 2 with The Assembly of the Deeps, is another suitable method to earn Kej. Every time you collect treasures from the Disturbed Earth in Azj-Kahet, you’ll earn some amount of Kej (on average, it’s between 4 to 7 per treasure). During one hour, you can earn between 300x to 600x Kej through Snuffling, which is nice since there’s no limit to how much currency you can collect this way.
Rumors
In Azj-Kahet’s new pact system, you can buy Rumor Maps for 25x Kej that reveal two rumors, indicated by purple spider-like symbols on your map. Go to these locations, interact with mobs, and complete short missions to earn 50x Kej per rumor. Each map doubles your investment, giving you 100x Kej for your initial 25x Kej. You can repeat this process as often as possible with the new pacts available in Azj-Kahet.
Exchanging currencies
If you have extra Resonance Crystals, you can trade them with Ka’muko, a Nerubian vendor unlocked at Renown 2 with the Severed Threads, for Kej and vice versa. Initially, the exchange rates aren’t fair. For example, 200x Kej only gets you 100x Resonance Crystals. The rates worsen when trading larger amounts, such as 8,000 Resonance Crystals for just 1,000 Kej.
However, as you progress, the exchange rates improve, allowing you to exchange 400x Resonance Crystals for 100x Kej with Ka’muko. Eventually, you can trade these two currencies at a one-to-one ratio, enabling you to exchange them without loss.
