Greedy Emissary overview

On the base level Greedy Emissary event is overly simple. It features special mobs from Diablo called Treasure Goblins that carry loot with them, and players have to defeat them as fast as possible to claim the rewards.

Before the Treasure Goblin appears, a portal icon briefly flashes on the map—your signal that the Goblin is about to spawn. Unlike previous iterations of the event, there’s no set rotation for Goblin spawns. You can choose whichever location you prefer to farm.
The locations of the event are:
- Stormwind (In Stormwind Docks [33, 34])
- Orgrimmar (At the main entrance area [44, 19])
- Dornogal (At the southern entrance, right after Dummy area, [54, 54])
- Undermine
- Liberation of Undermine (Raid)
Note
Since the portal technically spawns just outside Orgrimmar, it won’t appear on the in-game map of Orgrimmar. If you’re searching for Goblins near Orgrimmar, head into Durotar or use the hourly spawn times to orient yourself.
In summary, the 2025 Greedy Emissary loop for Capital cities looks like this:
- Portal Spawns
- Portals spawn every hour, on the hour (x:00), at fixed locations in each capital city.
- A map icon marks the portal’s location, but only if you’re in that zone.
- Goblin Arrival
- Exactly 5 minutes after portal appearance (x:05), a Treasure Goblin emerges.
- Before that players may use Elixirs to gain improved rewards and increase Goblins’ strength.
- Once Goblins emerge you can defeat them, earning Hellcaller Chest.
To track Goblin spawn times more accurately, consider using a dedicated WeakAura for streamlined monitoring.
Note
These rules apply only to Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Dornogal. Undermine and LoU (Liberation of Undermine raid) follows a completely different algorithm for Treasure Goblin spawns.
In Undermine, Treasure Goblins spawn differently. Defeating any eligible Undermine rare will trigger a portal that spawns a Treasure Goblin one minute later—even if you’ve already killed that rare for the day. This can happen once per hour per rare. Rares that can’t trigger a portal will have the “Portal Problems” debuff, which currently shows a 10-hour duration.
Additionally, every hour at (xx:15), a Portal Storm begins in Undermine, summoning five extra Goblin Portals with added affixes for more loot opportunities. This is a great time to farm.
A similar mechanic applies to LoU bosses. Occasionally, after defeating a boss on any difficulty—including LFR—a portal may appear, giving players a chance to farm Treasure Goblins.
Treasure Goblin affixes
These are all the Elixirs and affixes for new Greedy Emissary event:
Affix | Elixir | Effect |
---|---|---|
Arcane | Arcane Elixir | Spawns Arcane Overloads, inflicting Arcane damage to enemies in the area. If no enemies in the area, inflicts Arcane damage to enemies within 50 yards. |
Blistering | Blistering Elixir | Summons Blistering Eruptions, which deal Shadowflame damage to players in the impact area. |
Connected | Connected Elixir | Occasionally spawns hordes of Fallen and Fallen Shaman. |
Cursing | Cursing Elixir | Inflicts Sanctuary Tongues, forcing players to speak Diabolic and reducing cast speed by 10% until the Goblin is defeated. |
Deafening | Deafening Elixir | Casts Howl From Hell, knocking back all enemies within 50 yards. |
Explosive | Explosive Elixir | Conjures Explosive orbs at enemies. After a short delay, they explode, dealing Fire damage to enemies caught in the blast. |
Healthy | Healthy Elixir | Spawns health globes that heal players that step on them. |
Magma | Magma Elixir | Hurls Magma at enemies, dealing Volcanic damage. Each impact summons a ball of lava that fixates on an enemy and deals Volcanic damage on impact. |
Rallying | Rallying Elixir | Occasionally spawns hordes of Demonic Bovines. |
Rich | Rich Elixir | Spawns pools of money that give Greedy Motivation when stepped on, increasing Haste and Movement Speed for 15 seconds. |
Storming | Storming Elixir | Spawns pools of lightning that deal damage to enemies who step on them. |
Tempestuous | Tempestuous Elixir | Pulls enemies to the Goblin with Tempest and then attempts to hit them with Arcane Gust, dealing Arcane damage and knocking enemies back. |
Trapper | Trapper Elixir | Spawns Goblin Zapper traps, which deal 11% max health damage to enemies stepping on them. |
Windforce | Windforce Elixir | Spawns Wind Vortexes that deal Nature damage and knock back players on the impact area. |
As the number of affixes increases, the number and type of Treasure Goblins spawned changes accordingly. Here’s how they scale:
Number of Affixes | Number of Treasure Goblins | Goblin Affix Configuration |
---|---|---|
0 | 1 | 1 Goblin with 1 random affix |
1 | 1 | 1 Goblin with 1 portal + 1 random affix |
2 | 1 | 1 Goblin with 2 portal affixes |
3 | 2 | – 1 Goblin with 2 portal affixes- 1 Goblin with 1 portal + 1 random affix |
4 | 2 | – 2 Goblins with 2 portal affixes each |
5 | 3 | – 2 Goblins with 2 portal affixes each- 1 Goblin with 1 portal + 1 random affix |
6 | 3 | – 3 Goblins with 2 portal affixes each |
Event tips
- No need for a daily grind: Only 10 Hellcaller Chests per week are guaranteed to contain Hellstone Shards, and this limit resets weekly for your Warband.
- Goblins can’t be “stolen” in this event: Unlike previous versions. To be eligible for rewards, all you need to do is tag the Goblin.
- Use Dornogal only if it is less populated: At times, capital cities may have higher population levels, while Dornogal might be quieter. We recommend hosting events in less populated areas when possible. Additionally, consider using less populated servers—though this may be excessive in some cases.
Rewards
A key addition for the 2025 Greedy Emissary event is the introduction of Hellstone Shards and Hellcaller Chests. Hellcaller Chests—dropped by Treasure Goblins—can contain things like Valorstones and “otherworldly items.” While the full range of those items remains a mystery, they’re likely to include past-event rewards, new Elixirs and Charms, and more.
Importantly, the first 10 Hellcaller Chests you open each day will always yield at least six Hellstone Shard. These shards can be exchanged in Dornogal for the Classic recolored Tier 2 armor sets. After those initial ten, additional chests carry only a small chance to drop extra Hellstone Shards.
Tier 2 sets recolors

Hellstone Shard will allow players to purchase the recolored Tier 2 sets from Baranar, an NPC located in the Dornogal hub [54.8, 63.6]. Each set costs 40 Hellstone Shards. To view all the Diablo-themed armor sets, check out the Tier 2 recolors introduced in Patch 11.1.7.
We know that the first 10 Hellcaller Chests each week each contain at least 6 Hellstone Shards, totaling a guaranteed 60 Shards per week. Additional Shards can be earned beyond that, though in smaller quantities. With this in mind, the minimum time required to collect all the sets would take multiple weeks.
Greedy Emissary mounts

There are two mounts that can drop from Greedy Emissaries: Inarius’ Charger and Tyrael’s Charger. Both have a very low drop rate from Hellcaller Chests, so be prepared to grind the event if you’re aiming to collect them.
