Asmongold racist scandal: Cancelled for Palestinian comments

5 min read 0 2

Asmongold racist scandal involving Palestinians continues to gain significant heat across social platforms. Recently, the popular streamer spoke up regarding the issue.

As you may already know, Zack Hoyt, widely known as big streamer Asmongold, was recently suspended from Twitch. Asmongold was also CEO and co-founder of such organizations as OTK and Starforge System. The reason is that Zack made comments about the Palestinian people. Asmongold claimed that he didn’t feel sorry for Palestinian people affected by the conflict, calling them “terrible people” from an “inferior culture.” After a massive backlash, Asmongold’s Twitch channel was banned for a minimum of 14 days. After that, Zackr stated that he was “a**hole about it,” following up with his apology video on YouTube.

In this video, Zack discussed his suspension and plans to move forward. He made such statements as:

“I wanna say that I appreciate you (People that spoke out on this situation), and I think this is been something that is a long time coming. And I actually think that this is something that I not only deserved but also needed.”

— Asmongold

Zack said that the things he said were disgusting and that he was wrong about it. He also talked about his background, in the context of why he said it, while still criticizing his words.

Why Asmongold’s Palestinian comments are controversial

Zack’s comments on his stream were profoundly troubling and morally concerning, regardless of his background and context. But this situation can go even deeper, looking back on previous streams. Asmongold started as a WoW streamer, but with time, he stepped away from playing WoW. Zack’s content has slowly started devolving into a commentary channel for the past four years. He often watched his viewers’ submitted videos, which usually included politically inclined videos.

Many viewers have stated that they did not like Asmongold’s new direction. On Zack’s YouTube, many people claimed that Asmongold had lost its flavor.

“I hate the direction of YouTube and have mostly stopped watching because I don’t like the overall vibe that the editors give me. Making everything clickbait with the same overexaggerated faces and titles that often end up false just makes it feel like they’re insulting my intelligence, and I just choose to watch other stuff.”

Despite this, Zack still had a very active viewership on Twitch. Asmongold often claimed politically ambiguous things, but he still tried to keep his content gaming-related, at least for some time.

In his latest YouTube video, Zack claimed that his lifestyle was wrong. He described that for the past two years, he had become a mean-spirited and cruel version of himself. Because of his Roman-Catholic religious background and atheist beliefs, he often mistreated all religious agendas. However, Zack said he meant to change and wished to visit Istanbul and other Middle Eastern countries. When he was banned, Zack noted that people of Muslim and Palestinian backgrounds came to him and asked if they could help, which meant many things to him.

Many people can’t forget about Asmon’s previous tweets, where he had an apparent prejudice toward people speaking about the Israel/Palestine conflict.

“Weird as f**k to see so many people coming out with statements about the Israel/Palestine conflict as if they need to comment on it

Can we please stop this weird culture around expecting people with no relevant background or education to talk about world events/politics.”

— Asmongold

Because of this, some people think that Asmon is not sincere. In his defense, Zack didn’t delete his tweet nor hide it from the public. He also stated multiple times his desire to change and how he was wrong.

The aftermath of Asmongold racist scandal

The situation is polarizing. While some people have already forgiven Asmongold for his commentary, some say that Zack should be banned permanently from public platforms regardless of his apology. As we mentioned, people had deep concerns about Asmongold’s lifestyle. They wished his content would stop being so hostile and tense.

However, most of his fans think that his apology was genuine. People noted that while most apology videos are meaningless, Zack’s one seemed like a genuine attempt to change. Zack also stated that he would change his lifestyle, trying to clean his room from years of mess, which many people wait for.

OTK Network agency curating live streamers and Asmongold have made public posts on X stating that they denounced his behavior and would not tolerate it. They claimed that Asmongold would step away from his position in OTK Network and affiliated companies. However, they’ve also claimed that during their conversation, Zack expressed his desire to change his life and broaden his perspective. Zack has also ended his affiliation with Starforge Systems, which he co-founded.

Some content creators also don’t support Asmongold’s behavior. Many remarked that Asmongold’s statement was highly hypocritical.

Asmongold POV

While Asmon’s position as a Twitch streamer may seem desired, it is not without stress. Over three years ago, Zack commented on one of his subreddit posts about envying Asmongold’s life and saying he should never be a role model for his viewers.

In his latest Reddit post, Zack said:

“Hopefully yall can see how this really is a macro issue and not just this situation. My life has actually been f****d for a while now and I need to fix it. I am a 34 year old single man living in his mothers house with d**d animals and garbage. Although I don’t “hate” it, I don’t want to die this way.”

Zack’s dad said, “to chill out for over two years.” In his video, Asmongold said that actions should speak out more than words, and we hope he will stick to this motto

Last thoughts

So this is it for Zack’s situation. We hope Asmon will change for the better; otherwise, his apology would not be worth a dime.
