What is Iron Banner

Iron Banner is a free-for-all PvP event held by Lord Saladin in the Crucible. Going live twice each season, it lasts for one week to offer players a chance to earn exclusive high-end loot.
Participating in IB is easy: you just need to grab and complete the Forging Iron quest, available at Lord Saladin’s. Performing well, though, is a whole different story. With power level advantage disabled, damage output and defense capacity are equalized for all players, meaning newcomers and veteran Guardians will compete in a more or less equal environment, and their PvP skill will be the only thing that makes a difference.
As of time of writing, there are three modes on rotation: good-old Control, Rift, and Eruption. Once the next Iron Banner dates are announced, we might get a mode update as well, but for now, these three are all we have.
Iron Banner ranks and rewards

Iron Banner now offers a ranking system with 16 ranks, giving players a full experience throughout the event. Winning matches and playing regularly will earn you reputation with Lord Saladin, allowing you to unlock various rewards from the event’s reward roster as you level up.
Iron Banner Rewards
Iron Banner is primarily played for its unique suite of weapons and gear. Some of these are locked behind specific rank rewards, while others drop as Engrams when you rank up. You can decrypt these Engrams for random gear, or use Glimmer and Legendary Shards to focus them on specific items.
Speeding Up Reputation Gain
To speed up your reputation progression, there is a point multiplier system. To rank up faster, here’s what you need to do:
- Complete Daily challenges: Completing daily objectives boosts your reputation significantly.
- Equip Iron Banner gear: Equipping Iron Banner gear increases the multiplier. You can use ornaments to transmog your existing gear to Iron Banner skins, which also work for the multiplier, so you don’t have to use the actual gear.
- Iron Banner Emblems: Equipping these emblems further boosts your points.
- Activity streak: Playing consecutive matches gives a small reputation boost, capping at a 5-match streak for a 20% increase in reputation.
Resetting Rank
Once you reach Legend rank (Rank 16), you can reset your Iron Banner rank. This grants additional rewards such as weapons, Masterwork materials, and more. However, when the event ends, your rank will reset automatically, but you won’t receive extra rewards unless you manually reset after reaching Rank 16.
