Bungie introduced in Episode Echoes Act 3 the biggest exotic mission they’ve ever done. And they’re not lying because there will be three different versions that you need to understand. Your first walkthrough of these missions can be quite lengthy, but this Encore exotic mission guide can help you out!
So, let’s figure it out and learn how to complete Encore in Destiny 2 and its versions in no time!
How to complete Encore: Overture in Destiny 2
At the beginning of the Encore Overture exotic mission, you will encounter Vex and a huge open area. Ignore the Vex and move toward the right wall, which is illuminated with a blue light. Climb up along it and jump into a hole located in a white spherical Vex structure. Fall down, and then you’ll need to complete a small parkour puzzle.
Also, there is a secret path in the abyss on the right. You can jump into it and without needing to climb up like in the original path, but it’s all up to you. In the video below, you can see where it is:
Keep moving in the Destiny 2 Encore mission until you reach a blue line with a gap, where you’ll need to jump to a bottom ledge with a red light. Jump there and descend until you reach moving platforms on both sides. You need to get onto the right platform, which rises up. There will be a couple more platforms, and you need to keep moving up, though you’ll need to be patient because they’re rather slow. Once you’ve ascended, you’ll see a gap with several ledges. You need to jump to the one in the middle (which is even illuminated by light) and climb up two platforms. Almost all other platforms and paths lead to your death, so it’s recommended to ignore them. After doing this, you’ll descend a bit, but this time, look for a purple hole that will lead to the first encounter and portal rooms.
Finally, the action begins in the Destiny 2 Encore Overture mission! It’s time to deal with the Cabal. Follow them, destroying one group after another. Once they’re all defeated, you’ll find yourself in a room with a Vex Module. This is one of the main mechanics of the mission, which is used to create platforms and open barriers. The entire mechanic revolves around placing the Vex Module in terminals with specific colors above them, specifically in this one in green terminals.
Specifically, in the room you’re in, you need to use the green modules to activate three Vex Confluxes to open the gate and move forward. The first one will be in front of you, the second one is to the left of the first one, and the third one below. With the third one, you will need to get the yellow module from Minotaur, and you’ll need to place it in a nearby terminal to remove a wall. Activate the last Vex Conflux and take the green module upstairs to open the main gate.
Run straight until you reach a room with a green Vex Module. Don’t pick it up immediately, but mentally prepare yourself, because as soon as you pick it up, a huge boulder — oops, I mean a huge red wall — will appear and start chasing you all the way back to the previous room where the puzzles were solved. In Indiana Jones style, run out of the room as fast as you can, ignoring all enemies. Once you escape, you have to open the gates by putting your current green module to the terminal near the gate, and then pick up the previous green module. After that, head to the place where you originally fought the first group of Cabal and insert the module into the console there.
Follow the path until you reach Vex’s catapult and then reach a room with Cabal and Vex. Destroy them all until the boss Minotaur spawns, then defeat it and get the yellow module. Insert it and move forward. Inside, you’ll find the Planetary Piston with a bunch of materials to collect. You can take a small break here and even find a secret, but more details on that were covered in the Choir of One guide.
When you ascend, you’ll encounter Vex and the third type of modules, blue ones that allow you to open portals. Here, you’ll face a relatively simple portal puzzle. Obtain the first module from the room on the right and insert it into the console to open the first portal. So, let’s do this step by step so as not to confuse you:
- You’ll end up in the central room, where you’ll need to destroy the boss Hydra and its minions.
- The boss will drop a blue module, which you’ll need to place in the portal console on the right, leading to the first room.
- Take the blue module from the original room and put it on the terminal at the center.
- Pick up a green module in the center.
- Go through the portal and place it on the terminal.
- Go back to the blue module you left on the right portal to insert it into the one behind the other portal.
You’ve reached the first boss fight in Encore mission with a twist — You’ll have to fight two bosses. These two bosses are Omen and Tormentor. You’ll have to deplete the bosses’ health bars gradually. While you can easily use your Super and equip Microcosm at Omen, you can also use Super on Tormentor though we recommend using Precision damage weapons to defeat it more efficiently. However, in the second and fourth stages, you’ll find it easier to deal with him due to the portals in the room that allow you to teleport between them. By the way, until the second part of the boss fights, you can perish without fear of wiping, so keep that in mind. And be sure to prepare required weapons for the fight.
After this encounter:
- Keep running until you reach the second Planetary Piston.
- This step is not required for this mission completion, but we recommend doing it if you want more loot. You can activate Planetary Piston, defeat the Vex in an arena and collect all the resources.
- Move forward until you reach the Hydra boss, destroy it, and a portal will open leading to Maya Syndaresh’s lab.
- There, find her journal (fifth screenshot) and listen to it to get a Specimen_007 quest.
- Move on until you find yourself in the room with the final boss.
There’s not much left, so let’s push through! The Hydra boss is fairly simple. As soon as the encounter begins, destroy the Minotaur boss to obtain the green module. Insert it into the terminal in the center and activate the Vex Conflux there. Then, look around and follow the location of the Vex boss, remembering to take the module that will be needed to create a platform. Vex will spawn with their capture circle, which is necessary to release the boss. You’ll need to defend it from the spawning Vex in the domes to prevent them from interrupting it. Once that’s done, shoot the pyramid next to the boss’s barrier. He’ll be released and then teleport to you. Use all your weapons to deal as much damage as possible before he teleports back into the dome.
Repeat until you’ve depleted half of his HP, after which red walls will appear that will instantly kill you. Minotaurs will immediately spawn in the arena, and from them, blue modules will drop to activate the portals. Once the boss has a third of his HP left, he’ll appear in the center, and you’ll need to finish him off finally.
The bug on the final boss of the Encore Overture: This bug occurs if you capture the Vex circle with a collected module. If you do this, the triangle button on the Hydra’s barrier won’t appear, forcing you to wipe.
How to complete Encore: Concerto in Destiny 2
As of right now, the Destiny 2 Encore: Concerto mission has been released. The Concerto mission itself is a slightly more challenging version of Overture, which becomes available after completing the starting quests of Act 3 Week 2. Here are the main differences from the previous mission:
- Harpies will be flying around the lift rooms, obstructing your progress.
- During the escape phase from the red wall, lasers have appeared that you must avoid.
- In the final boss fight, two Cyclops will spawn before you insert the green module at the center for the first time.
These are essentially all the changes in Encore: Concerto mission, but it’s likely that Encore Coda next week will be even more challenging.
How to complete Encore: Coda in Destiny 2
Once again, there are some differences between the Coda and Concerto with Oventure versions. However, Coda will now be the main Encore version. You will notice the difference in the end when you have to defeat Hydra and open a portal. Now, besides the Hydra, you will have to take down the Greetaal Colossus to open the portal, but be careful, as this Cabal has a Minigun that can quickly destroy you. Another Cabal boss will also appear in the second phase of the final boss battle, but he will be harmless and can be ignored.
