Bungie revealed new combatant modifiers in Destiny 2
Bungie revealed brand-new combatant modifiers for Destiny 2!
Table of Contents
As promised, Bungie has some exciting news for you today regarding Codename: Frontiers. They published two articles, and we decided to do the same, recapping all the info. The first one is about raids and dungeons in Destiny 2: Frontiers, in which they discuss modifiers and a new event that will be like a Pantheon. In the second article, they talked about enemies and ways to make encounters with them more challenging. In this article, we’ll touch on the second topic and how it will change the usual gameplay.
New Banes system
In Codename: Frontiers, “combatant affix modifiers” called Banes will be introduced. Any random enemy in activities with these modifiers can receive one of several Banes, granting them various bonuses. For instance, in Episode: Revenant, which is set to release in two weeks, Meteor and Shock Banes will be tested:
- Enemies affected by Meteor Bane will release Solar projectiles that need to be shot down before they deal damage.
- If an enemy has the Shock affix, they will build up a charge that discharges onto a single target within their line of sight.
Additionally, several other new affix modifiers were shown:
- Berserk: Killing combatants with Berserk causes nearby enemies to be enraged.
- Punchable: Punchable combatants are immune to all ranged damage and damage from status effects until they are hit with a melee attack.
- Nuclear: Once a unit with the Nuclear Bane reaches low health, it begins an arming sequence. It explodes in a massive fiery shockwave if not defeated before the sequence completes.
These are still in development, so it’s unlikely we’ll see them before the release of Codename: Frontiers.
All of the mentioned Banes will be able to stack on an enemy, though not during the testing phase in Episode: Revenant. The developers also clarified that Champions will remain in the game, but they won’t receive these affix modifiers.
Enemy and Combat modifiers
Along with the system described above, new Enemy modifiers will be introduced. These will alter the base aspects of all enemies in an activity, catching you off guard. At least one modifier will appear in Episode: Revenant, causing some enemies to booby-trap their drops.
While Enemy modifiers only affect enemies, Combat modifiers will influence both players and enemies. An example is Surge mods, which have been in the game for a while and aren’t going away. These are still being worked on, and more details are expected in a few months.
Final words
That’s all what developers shared with us. Remember that they also revealed new info on raids and dungeons, which we talked about in another article. Tomorrow we have news on the upcoming dungeon and more, so stay tuned for an article from us!
