Season 2 Rookery changes: Kyrioss

Kyrioss is the first boss in The Rookery dungeon that received some significant changes in Season 2. First, his Lightning Torrent now strikes players with AoE damage every three seconds. This phase lasts 15 seconds and can also damage players with Grounding Bolt from time to time. This ability deals damage to anyone within eight yards from the original position of the target. The lightning pool is left on the ground, dealing damage on contact.

Crashing Thunder is a new ability that creates a tempest zone. This eight-yard area deals damage to all players who don’t dodge it. Another new boss ability, Wild Lightning, summons lightnings that have to be dodged by the group. Otherwise, players receive high damage and can be wiped. This spell can shred the boss arena by another five yards each.

All these Season 2 Rookery changes concentrate on adding more hazardous zones that your group must handle. This makes this boss more likely to overwhelm players with the amount of deadly areas.

Season 2 Rookery changes: Stormguard Gorren

Despite Chaotic Corruption and Crush Reality damage being reduced, Crush Reality now hits all players during the boss fight. This means that much more Lingering Void will be left on the ground. These pulls have also been changed and now last two minutes instead of one. All these Season 2 Rookery changes make Stormguard Gorren another boss with a heavily shrinking arena.

Season 2 Rookery changes: Voidstone Monstrosity

The final boss received many Season 2 Rookery changes. First of all, the stun from Storm’s Vengeance is twice increased, leaving the boss vulnerable for 20 seconds instead of 10. During this stun, Voidstone Monstrosity receives 100% more damage.

However, the boss is almost fully reworked with Reshape ability, now making Voidstone Fragments the main mechanic. The penalty for players letting the boss summon too many Fragments via Null Upheaval becomes more obvious. Null Upheaval now can not be line of sighted and summons Voidstone Fragments. Voidzones from this spell now travel slower, but their damage has increased by 33%. Corruption Overload now increases all damage done by 20% every three seconds, and the overall damage of the ability is also increased by 25%. Previously, it buffed the boss for only 5%.

Thankfully, Stormrider’s Charge will let players cleanse the arena from Voidstone Fragments. This ability now targets four players and lasts nine seconds instead of six. Players will gain increased movement speed and can detonate Voidstone Fragments within ten yards.

There are also some Season 2 Rookery tuning made to Voidstone Monstrosity. Entropy damage has been significantly reduced since it now deals 70% less damage. Oblivion Wave is now being cast for three seconds instead of two, but will now cover the whole area. Seeping Corruption is now applied from Unleash Corruption instead of Voidstone Fragments, and its damage has increased by 25%. Unleash Corruption now leaves Seeping Corruption upon removal and can be dispelled.

Last thoughts

Many players were unhappy with the changes to the Rookery bosses in Season 2. Many people insist that Blizzard should avoid adding even more pool mechanics to shrink boss arenas. We already discussed the community’s disappointment with the current M+ state, so it is unsurprising that many people criticize developers on this topic. However, once these changes can be tested, we must see how they will impact the Mythic Plus experience.
