The War Within Tailoring guide 1–100: Level up fast
Welcome to our ultimate The War Within Tailoring guide for leveling up from 1 to 100 in the most efficient way possible.
Table of Contents
Alongside this Tailoring guide, we’ve created a dedicated article covering all 11 primary professions. Inside, we highlight Blizzard’s changes in The War Within professions and provide a user-friendly list for quick access to the information you need. Be sure to check it out:
Why should you choose Tailoring as your profession?
In The War Within, Tailoring remains a profitable profession for both gold-making and farming. Tailors are known for crafting various bags, and as in past expansions, these bags help players expand their inventory and bank space. Alongside the Reagent Bags introduced in Dragonflight, The War Within introduces new Profession Bags through Tailoring, offering extra benefits to players’ professions.
Tailoring is also responsible for creating all cloth armor pieces. If you wear cloth armor, you’ll depend on Tailors to craft and upgrade your gear. Additionally, Spellthreads make a return, providing a permanent enhancement to the pants slot.
Tailoring has always focused on creating bags, cloth armor, reagents, and spellthreads. In The War Within expansion, this profession continues this tradition with some new recipes:
- Bags: Tailors can craft enhanced bags that expand players’ inventories, such as the Dawnweave Reagent Bag and Duskweave Bag. They can also create new Profession Bags introduced in The War Within, like the Concoctor’s Clutch, which boosts profession skills.
- Cloth Armor: Crafting cloth gear remains a core part of Tailoring. In The War Within, Tailors can specialize in different gear slots to produce top-tier armor for players.
- Reagents: Weavercloth Bolt and Spool of Weaverthread are essential materials in Tailoring. Players can specialize in producing these to supply other Tailors, focusing on quality and cost-efficiency. Tailors can also access various Optional and Finishing Reagents used by other professions.
- Spellthreads: Similar to enchants, Spellthreads offer a permanent stat boost to leggings. Tailors can craft various Spellthreads in this expansion, including the Daybreak Spellthread.
What is the best combo with Tailoring in WoW?
Tailoring and Enchanting are both profitable on their own, but when combined, they open up even more ways to earn gold. With Tailoring, you can craft high-quality cloth armor, bags, and other items, which are especially useful for classes that wear cloth. You’ll often have leftover items you don’t need as you create and upgrade gear through Tailoring. These can be disenchanted by using Enchanting in valuable materials like Arcane Dust, Lesser Magic Essence, and Greater Magic Essence that you can sell at the Auction House.
In The War Within, both professions also benefit from the crafting order system. Tailors can focus on crafting in-demand gear or bags for profit through these orders. Meanwhile, Enchanters can specialize in specific enchantments that are highly sought after, making them even more valuable to other players.
The War Within Tailoring specializations
At level 25, you’ll unlock Tailoring specializations. Don’t stress about your first choice — you can eventually learn all four. It takes 50 skill points to unlock the second specialization, 60 for the third, and 75 for the fourth.
Threads of Devotion
Threads of Devotion is the basic gear tree, much like the one from Dragonflight. It’s crucial for crafting gear. If you plan to sell gear, whether Embellished or Unembellished, you must invest points in this tree.
From Dawn Until Dusk
Due to the From Dawn Until Dusk specialization, you’ll learn two daily Tailoring cooldowns: Dawnweave Bolt and Duskweave Bolt. Also, by focusing on a specific sub-specialization, you can loot Duskweave or Dawnweave from humanoids.
Quality Fabric
Quality Fabric is essential for Tailors, but not everyone needs it. In The War Within, Tailoring has two crucial changes: only Tailors can gather Cloth, and Cloth now has different quality levels, similar to Herbs and Ores.
To get Quality 3 (Q3) Cloth, you must invest 30 points in Quality Fabric. Without this investment, you’ll only receive Quality 1 (Q1) Cloth. This specialization also improves your ability to get higher-quality Cloth through Unraveling and helps you craft better bolts, reagents, and leg enchants.
Textile Treasures
Textile Treasures is designed to help you gather more cloth from mobs and boost your Ingenuity, Resourcefulness, or Multicraft. It also increases your Ingenuity to refund more Concentration, up to 100%. This is the specialization to invest in after you’ve established a stable foundation in the others, allowing you to fine-tune your build. We’d recommend focusing on this one only after you’ve allocated points in the other specializations first.
Approximate materials required
You’ll need these materials to level up to 65, but beyond that, the recipes vary too much. Just buy the cheapest ones since quality doesn’t matter for leveling:
- 200x Weavercloth
- 10x Storm Dust
- 40x Writhing Sample
- 4x Leyline Residue
The War Within Tailoring trainer
You can learn Khaz Algar Tailoring from several trainers at the following locations:
- Kotag in Dornogal at [55, 74]
- Layne Pontelle in Mereldar at [43, 55]
- Silkswooner Waree in the City of Threads at [49.7, 17.5]
The War Within Tailoring guide: Leveling
You earn 1 Khaz Algar Tailoring Knowledge point each time you craft an item for the first time. This knowledge is valuable and limited weekly from other sources. Sometimes, it’s worth crafting a slightly more expensive recipe to gain skill points while they’re still available. Eventually, you’ll want to collect all these bonuses.
1 – 10
Use Unraveling on 200x Weavercloth.
10 – 25
- 51x Weavercloth Bolt requires 300x Mosswool Thread and 510x Spool of Weaverthread.
You can buy Mosswool Thread from the Tailoring supply vendor near your trainer.
25 – 29
- 4x Exquisite Weavercloth Bolt requires 8x Mosswool Thread, 8x Weavercloth Bolt, 4x Storm Dust
29 – 35
Create 3 accessories using the following materials. These are just examples, and you can make any 3 based on your needs:
- 1x Weavercloth Alchemist’s Robe: 1x Mosswool Thread, 2x Storm Dust, 1x Exquisite Weavercloth Bolt
- 1x Weavercloth Chef’s Hat: 1x Mosswool Thread, 2x Storm Dust, 1x Exquisite Weavercloth Bolt
- 1x Weavercloth Tailor’s Coat: 1x Mosswool Thread, 2x Storm Dust, 1x Exquisite Weavercloth Bolt
After crafting, equip the Weavercloth Tailor’s Coat.
35 – 37
- 1x Pioneer’s Perfected Hood: 4x Mosswool Thread, 2x Writhing Sample, 3x Weavercloth Bolt
Start by making the hood first, as it will turn yellow at skill level 40. You can buy the Adorning Ribbon from the Tailoring supply vendor near your trainer.
37 – 39
- 1x Pioneer’s Perfected Gloves: 3x Mosswool Thread, 1x Writhing Sample, 2x Weavercloth Bolt
39 – 45
- 3x Pioneer’s Perfected Mantle: 9x Mosswool Thread, 3x Writhing Sample, 6x Weavercloth Bolt
45 – 48
- 1x Gritty Polishing Cloth: 2x Leyline Residue, 1x Weavercloth Bolt
- 1x Bright Polishing Cloth: 2x Leyline Residue, 1x Weavercloth Bolt
48 – 65
- 30x Weavercloth Embroidery Thread: 30x Writhing Sample, 30x Weavercloth Bolt
The recipe will be yellow for the last 5 points, so you might need to make more.
65 – 91
From levels 65 to 91, you can craft any Optional Reagents, Bags, or Spellthreads using the recipes you have.
Optional reagents, bags, and spellthreads
These recipes turn yellow at level 80 and green at level 90. They don’t need any BoP crafting materials, so you can sell them at the Auction House.
Item | Recipe source |
Dawnweave Reagent Bag | Specialization: From Dawn Until Dusk (10) |
Duskweave Bag | Specialization: From Dawn Until Dusk (20) |
Duskthread Lining | Drops from Rasha’nan in the Nerub-ar Palace raid. Purchasable at the Auction House |
Dawnthread Lining | Delves: Heavy Trunk |
The Severed Satchel | Specialization: Quality Fabric (25) |
Sunset Spellthread | Specialization: From Dawn Until Dusk – Duskweave Tailoring (20) |
Daybreak Spellthread | Specialization: From Dawn Until Dusk – Dawnweave Tailoring (20) |
Profession accessories
These recipes remain orange up to level 90. However, because they require Artisan’s Acuity to craft, you’ll need to use Patron, Public, or Personal crafting orders to gain skill points. Don’t waste your own Artisan’s Acuity on tools you won’t use.
Item | Recipe source |
Artisan Tailor’s Coat | Tailoring Trainer (50) |
Artisan Fishing Cap | Vendor: Lyrendal Cost: 150x Artisan’s Acuity |
Artisan Chef’s Hat | Vendor: Lyrendal Cost: 150x Artisan’s Acuity |
Artisan Gardening Hat | Vendor: Lyrendal Cost: 150x Artisan’s Acuity |
Artisan Enchanter’s Hat | Vendor: Lyrendal Cost: 150x Artisan’s Acuity |
Artisan Alchemist’s Robe | Sold by Khaz Algar World Vendors Cost: 150x Artisan’s Acuity and 1,500x Kej |
91 – 100
Optional Reagents, Bags, and Spellthreads provide skill points up to 100, though the last few points can be slow if you’re unlucky. If you’ve unlocked any epic armor recipes, try completing a few crafting orders. It’s best to stop at 91, 94, or 97, as each armor recipe grants 3 skill points, so you’ll only need 1-3 to reach 100. If you plan to craft an epic armor piece for yourself, definitely stop at 97.
Each epic armor recipe requires a Spark of Omens, a Bind on Pickup (BoP) crafting reagent that can’t be bought at the Auction House. Since you can only get one Spark of Omens every two weeks, use the crafting order system to reach skill level 100.
Getting recipes from specializations
Threads of Devotion
All the recipes in the Threads of Devotion specialization are great for leveling up to 100, so any talent tree you choose will work well.
From Dawn Until Dusk
This specialization is divided into two paths, each offering 3 recipes. You can’t go wrong choosing either one.
Completing Crafting Orders for skill points
After getting your specialization recipes, you can begin searching for Crafting Orders.
Public Orders
When you open the Crafting Orders tab, remember to click “Search” in the top left corner of the Public Orders tab, as they don’t load automatically. You might notice there aren’t many crafting orders available because players often complete them as soon as they are posted.
Public crafting orders haven’t become popular in Dragonflight, and this is unlikely to change in The War Within. Many players prefer guild or personal orders because they offer better control over item quality and materials. The unpredictability of public orders discourages players from using this system, leading to very few available orders.
Additionally, Public Orders are not cross-realm, so you’ll only see orders from players on your own realm. If you’re on a low-population realm, there may be very few or even no Public Orders available.
NPC Orders
The new NPC crafting orders make leveling up easier. You’ll often get epic armor crafting orders, though some might require more knowledge points before you can complete them.
These orders are unique to you, meaning other players can’t take them. Think of them as Personal Orders from NPCs. However, since they’re randomly generated, you might not always get orders for recipes you’re able to craft right away.
Personal Orders
To level up with Personal Orders, you can advertise your services on the trade channel. Most players are looking for rank 5 items, so highlight the recipes you can craft at that quality. Also, watch Dornogal’s trade channel for requests that match your crafting abilities.
Darkmoon Faire
During the Darkmoon Faire, you can earn 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points by completing a short quest from Selina Dourman called “Banners, Banners Everywhere!” It’s best to do this quest as late as possible to maximize the skill points you gain.
