Why should you choose Blacksmithing as your profession?
Choosing Blacksmithing as your profession in World of Warcraft: War Within has a lot of perks, especially if you like making strong gear and helping out your guild or the in-game economy. As a blacksmith, you can craft weapons, armor, and other useful items that are essential for both PvE and PvP activities. The new expansion brings fresh recipes that let you create gear tailored to different playstyles, so you can make exactly what you or others need.
One big reason to choose Blacksmithing is the ability to make top-tier gear such as Sanctified Steps, Charged Halberd, and Everforged Longsword, often better than what you find in quests. This can give you a significant advantage, particularly early on when good gear is hard to come by. Blacksmiths can also create consumables such as Ironclaw Weightstone and Ironclaw Razorstone that make you stronger and are valuable to other professions. You can also craft Coreforged Skeleton Key to open closed chests.
What is the best combo with Blacksmithing in WoW?
Blacksmithing pairs well with Mining, a gathering profession that provides essential materials for your crafting needs. By combining these two professions, you can collect your ores and smelt them into bars, saving gold and ensuring a steady supply of resources for your Blacksmithing projects. As you progress in the game, Mining allows you to gather higher-quality ores, which in turn lets you craft more powerful gear. Additionally, rare materials collected through Mining can be used for special recipes or sold for profit.
Being both a Miner and a Blacksmith also gives you the advantage of creating unique, bind-on-pickup items exclusive to blacksmiths, offering special bonuses and enhancements that can give you an edge in the game. This synergy not only improves your overall gameplay experience by providing reliable, top-tier gear but also opens up opportunities for economic gain through selling crafted items or raw materials. In short, the combination of Blacksmithing and Mining is both practical and financially rewarding in World of Warcraft.
Approximate materials required for Blacksmithing
Here’s what you’ll need to gather to level up Khaz Algar Blacksmithing up to level 65. The materials listed below will cover you through the first stretch. If you decide to push on from 65 to 100, you’ll need additional resources, but that’s entirely up to you.
Focus on getting the cheapest options available, as quality won’t impact your progress at this stage.
- 565x Bismuth
- 51x Ironclaw Ore
- 5x Aqirite
- 81x Crystalline Powder
- 2x Leyline Residue
Blacksmithing Trainer and Crafting Table location
To master War Within Blacksmithing, head over to Dornogal and seek out the Blacksmithing trainer. They’ll get you started on the right path. Keep in mind that most recipes require a crafting station to forge your creations. Fortunately, there’s a crafting table conveniently located near the trainer in Dornogal, so you won’t have to go far to work your magic.

Blacksmithing Specializations
Once you reach level 25, you’ll unlock the chance to dive into Blacksmithing specializations. Don’t stress about your first pick—eventually, you’ll be able to master all three paths. To unlock the second specialization, you’ll need 50 skill points; the third requires 60, and the fourth demands 75.
However, how you allocate your Blacksmithing Knowledge Points can make a big difference. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the specializations to choose the one that aligns with your goals. Knowledge Points are a precious resource, so plan your investments carefully and strategically to get the most out of them.

This recipe will turn yellow for the last 5 points, so you may need to craft more.
Pick Everburning Forge as your second or third specialization here! It will provide an alternative, cheaper way to level up.
65 – 75
If the cost of crafting these items is too steep, feel free to skip this step. Instead, you can focus on making Everburning Ignitions for a more budget-friendly approach.
20x Sanctified Alloy – 100x Echoing Flux, 20x Profaned Tinderbox, 20x Null Stone, 40x Ironclaw Ore, 20x Core Alloy
For the final stretch, the recipe will turn green for the last 5 points, so you might need to craft around 25 to 30 of these. There’s a chance you could need fewer if luck is on your side. If you’re able to sell them for a profit or at least near the material cost, continue crafting them until they turn grey at level 80.
75 – 94
Everburning Ignition will be orange up to 90. The recharge time is only 2 hours. There are 5 charges, so you don’t have to log in every 2 hours.
30x Everburning Ignition – 30x Artisan’s Acuity, 150x Crystalline Powder, 30x Core Alloy
This process will take around 3-4 days if you log in at least once every 10 hours.
The War Within Blacksmithing guide: Leveling from 94 to 100
Everburning Ignition can get you up to 100 skill points, but be aware that it will turn green for the last 5 points, meaning you’ll need to churn out quite a few to hit 100. If you have access to any epic armor or weapon recipes, it’s a smart move to switch to crafting orders at this stage.
These epic recipes require a Spark of Omen, a Bind on Pickup (BoP) crafting reagent that’s not available on the Auction House. Since you can only acquire one Spark of Omen every two weeks, it’s best to use the crafting order system for these final 9 points. Each recipe provides 3 skill points, so you’ll only need to complete 3 orders to finish your Blacksmithing journey.
Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing specializations
Any recipe you pick up from the Weaponsmithing or Armorsmithing specializations will help you reach 100 skill points, so you really can’t go wrong with your choice. Whether you go for the might of weapons or the resilience of armor, both paths will serve you well in hitting that mark.
Recipes from Vendors and Drops
These are the recipes you can get from vendors or the Auction House.
