In Patch 11.0.7 of War Within, Major Excavations are a new world event triggered by contributing Flame-Blessed Iron. To start an excavation, you must donate 150 Flame-Blessed Iron across 30 contributions. Once triggered, a rare enemy spawns at the excavation site, and defeating it completes the event.
After a 5-minute cooldown, you can contribute again to trigger another event. This repeatable activity offers opportunities for rewards and rare boss fights, providing an engaging cooperative experience on Siren Isle.

Major Excavations events
Major Excavations are a new type of world event introduced in Patch 11.0.7, triggered by donating Flame-Blessed Iron, the primary currency of the update. To start, head to the Command Map in Flotsam Shoal and contribute Flame-Blessed Iron. This is a group event that any player can start. It is similar to the Theater Troupe and Dragonflight Superbloom activity. We recommend either finding or creating a group from LFG to get maximum rewards.
Once enough Flame-Blessed Iron is deposited, a countdown begins, giving you 2-3 minutes to reach the excavation site. Once the countdown reaches zero, the cave opens, and you’ll have a few minutes to get to the designated location before explosives are set. Be sure to check your map for the exact location of the excavation.
Donating Flame-Blessed Iron
Each contribution requires 5 Flame-Blessed Iron, and you’ll need to contribute 30 times to trigger a Major Excavation event, which equals 150 Flame-Blessed Iron. The event will be triggered once enough donations are made, and a world event notification will appear on the Siren Isle map.
What happens after the Major Excavations are triggered?
After triggering the Major Excavation event, you’ll have a 3-minute window to gather at the excavation site marked on the map. The NPCs you’ve contributed with will work to clear the area during this time. Once the excavation is complete, a unique Rare Elite boss will spawn. Defeating this boss is crucial to completing the event and unlocking the rewards.
Each Major Excavation involves facing off against a powerful Rare Elite boss within the cave. For example, in The Drain, you’ll encounter Gravesludge. Defeating the boss is necessary to finish the excavation and claim your rewards.
You’ll be awarded Bronze Celebration Tokens and a Crate of Bygone Riches upon defeating the rare boss. This crate contains valuable items, including Flame-Blessed Iron, Valorstones, Crests, Gems for Cyrce’s Circlet, and Veteran gear, offering significant rewards for your efforts. With the Upgrade Crests cap removal, this makes a great activity to farm Crests. It is also a viable option to farm Valorstones!
As you can see, you can easily farm Flame-Blessed Iron currency from this activity, even if you donate some of it to trigger it. With this currency, you can claim rewards like Soweezi’s Vintage Waveshredder for 10.000 Flame-Blessed Iron. Also, this activity contributes to many gems for Cyrce’s Circlet.
Be sure to check our Cyrce’s Circlet guide:
You can easily farm this event solo, however, a dedicated group of players will always outperform a single player. Also, the rewards are better if more players are contributing and taking part in the event.
Major Excavations cooldown and repetition
After each Major Excavation event is completed, there will be a 5-minute cooldown. Once this cooldown is over, you can immediately contribute again and trigger the event for more rewards.
We still don’t know whether the Crate of Bygone Riches and Veteran Gear are weekly awards in a similar matter to the Theater Troupe event. However, we will update this article, when we will have more information in our hands.
This makes the Major Excavation a fun, repeatable activity where you can continuously gather resources and fight rare bosses while working alongside other players.
Conclusion
Major Excavations are a fantastic new feature introduced in Patch 11.0.7, offering a cooperative experience and the chance to gather valuable rewards. By donating Flame-Blessed Iron, you not only trigger exciting events but also fight rare bosses and earn rare loot. With a quick cooldown time, you can participate in these events repeatedly, contributing to your ongoing adventure in War Within.
