Lorewalking quest chains

The first version of Lorewalking in Patch 11.1.7 includes 3 quest chains to explore. Let’s take a closer look.
Xal’atath Lorewalking
The Lorewalking: The Blade and the High Priest questline revisits the Shadow Priest artifact storyline from Legion, where players first encounter the sinister relic Xal’atath. As the Burning Legion invades, a desperate High Priest seeks forbidden power, unknowingly inviting the manipulative blade into their fate.
In Lorewalking: The Blade’s Gambit, players relive Xal’atath’s return during Battle for Azeroth, where she tempts her former wielder with promises of power amidst the chaos of war, guiding them through deadly missions across Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
Finally, Lorewalking: The Blade’s Past unveils Xal’atath’s ancient origins and her shocking role in a war against the Old Gods during the era of the Black Empire. Players witness a Void siege on Ny’alotha, confront twisted aberrations, and summon dark entities like Yogg-Saron and Y’Shaarj while navigating the ruins of Xithixxin. Throughout all three arcs, talking to Lorewalker Cho unlocks deeper lore about Xal’atath’s history, motives, and ominous legacy.
“Xal’atath, the Harbinger, once known as the Blade of the Black Empire. Her history is a well-kept secret. But her words and deeds have affected so many that she is impossible to ignore. Her story must be told.”
— World of Warcraft
Discover the full story in this spoiler article: Xal’atath’s true form might surprise you, or just play the Lorewalking event and find out by yourself.
Ethereals Lorewalking
“Mysterious and elusive, the ethereals that have traveled to our world speak little of their history. Yet there is much to be learned from the few things they do choose to share…”
— World of Warcraft
The Lorewalking: The Protectorate questline revisits the Burning Crusade era, where players join forces with the ethereal Protectorate to battle the corrupted Ethereum and ultimately face Dimensius the All-Devouring, a Void creature responsible for destroying their homeworld, K’aresh. Along the way, players must manage transponders, gather data, and trigger key encounters while uncovering the ethereals’ tragic past.
In Lorewalking: Locus-Walker, the focus shifts to Argus as players witness Alleria Windrunner’s reunion with her mentor Locus-Walker, diving deeper into the Void and its mysterious allure.
Lastly, Lorewalking: The Brokers brings players back to Tazavesh to reconnect with Ve’nari and explore the secretive broker society, completing stealth missions, locating smugglers, and navigating shadowy politics.
The Lich King Lorewalking
“Arthas Menethil. It is said that when he was born, the very forests of Loardaeron whispered his name. But did the forests of his youth know what he would eventually grow to become?”
— World of Warcraft
The Lorewalking: The Prince Who Would Be King questline takes players on a journey through the life of Arthas Menethil, from his idealistic youth to his transformation into the Lich King. Players will relive key moments like sparring in Lordaeron, the tragic Culling of Stratholme, and the fateful claiming of Frostmourne.
Later, in Lorewalking: No King Rules Forever, the focus shifts to Arthas’ reign of terror as the Lich King, including helping Jaina in the Halls of Reflection and confronting iconic figures like Falric, Marwyn, and the Lich King himself.
Players must use specific quest items from their bags, interact with ghosts, and survive difficult combat scenarios, some of which may be too challenging for low-level characters due to scaling.
Quel’thalas Lorewalking lost quest chain
Players discovered some hidden questline files in the 11.1.7 PTR, connected to the history of Quel’thalas and the Sunwell. Dataminers also found a low-resolution image showing Quel’thalas with the void elf leader, Magister Umbric, as well as some dialogue from Lorewalker Cho related to this questline.

While the Quel’Thalas and Sunwell storyline isn’t available in Patch 11.1.7, we expect it to go live sometime in the future.
Lorewalking rewards

The Lorewalking rewards are: cosmetic items, loot chest, and Lorebooks. Each event offers a variety of rewards simply for participating. You’ll earn cosmetic items for completing each storyline, special chests containing gear from past expansions, and numerous Lorebooks. Let’s take a closer look at everything you can collect during Lorewalking.
Lorewalking cosmetic rewards
You can earn a cosmetic reward for fully completing each Lorewalking quest chain. Here are the Lorewalking 11.1.7 rewards:
Xal’atath Lorewalking reward: Echo of the Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire. his toy gives you a chance to trigger Xal’atath’s voice lines when defeating enemies. It lasts for 1 hour and has no cooldown. Some of the possible Echo of the Xal’atath lines include:
- Delicious.
- Every little death helps.
- Enjoy That?
- Did you feel it cease to exist?
- Boring.
Ethereals Lorewalking reward: K’aresh Memory Crystal. This toy grants you the appearance of a random K’areshi (either an ethereal or a broker) for 10 minutes.
The Lich King Lorewalking reward: Royal Visage. This toy transforms you into a ghostly version of the Lich King for 10 minutes, and any mounts you use during this time will also appear spectral.
Lorewalking gear chest
By completing specific Lorewalking quests or replaying a campaign, you’ll receive a Lorewalker’s Crate of Memorabilia.. This chest contains level-scaling gear from past expansions, which appears as Explorer 1/8 at max level. While it’s not ideal for gearing up, it’s a fun way to collect old transmog items.
Lorebooks
Completing a Lorewalking questline also grants you a collection of Lorewalker Cho’s personal notes.

Conclusion
That’s everything we want to share about Lorewalking in Patch 11.1.7. The unreleased Quel’thalas questline hints that there’s more to come, and over time, Lorewalking could become a permanent feature, offering lore fans a chance to explore both old and new parts of WoW’s rich history in greater detail.

“It’s open to all characters level 10 and up.”
Yet when i did the second one at lvl 20, the mobs were lvl 45. Which wasnt really that much of a problem, HOWEVER, halfway throught it, you are supposed to pick up something and it says you have to be lvl 45 to pick it up. So i had to log in with another character and redo all of that again. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 :). just saying
You can’t do Lorewalking if you use a starter account and don’t have a subscription. It tells you that you need to have the War Witin expansion and won’t let you start. Found this out by trying to do lorewalking without a subscription and using a starter account.
Sounds exciting! Currently reading Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christine Golden and am excited for his Lore Walking but I’ll do all of them for certain. With these and player housing… maybe 11.1.7 will be considered a success and the dev’s can get a moments peace…
