New datamined legendary cloak in patch 11.1.5: BfA Horrific Visions item
Patch 11.1.5 datamining reveals a new version of Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve, hinting at its return in Horrific Visions.

Key takeaways:
- Ashjra’kamas returns: Datamining from Patch 11.1.5 reveals a new version of Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve, the legendary cloak from Battle for Azeroth, though without its original Corruption Resistance and Sanity protection effects.
- Likely a Cosmetic reward: Several cosmetic variants of the cloak (The Corrupted, The Purified, and The Celestial) suggest it may be a transmog reward tied to the returning Horrific Visions, rather than a new legendary item for endgame use.
- Uncertainty remains: Blizzard has not officially commented on the cloak, leaving questions about whether it will have any functional gameplay benefits or remain purely a collectible from revisiting Battle for Azeroth content.
As datamining for The War Within Patch 11.1.5 continues, we’ve discovered an updated version of Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve—the legendary cloak from Battle for Azeroth. Several versions have appeared in the game files, including purely cosmetic variants, suggesting a potential connection to the returning Horrific Visions.

A new Ashjra’kamas for patch 11.1.5

The updated version of the cloak features a higher item level but lacks the unique effects that defined the original. Notably, it does not provide Corruption Resistance or Sanity protection, which were key mechanics in Battle for Azeroth’s patch 8.3 Horrific Visions. This likely means the new Horrific Visions in patch 11.1.5 will be more manageable, as the instant-fail corruption mechanics from BfA are not returning. We will probably see some sort of Cyrce’s Circlet or Onyx Annulet in the form of the cloak.
What was Ashjra’kamas used for

Originally introduced in Patch 8.3, Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve was a critical item in the battle against N’Zoth. Players upgraded the cloak to increase their resistance to Corruption, preventing negative effects from high-Corruption gear. More importantly, it reduced Sanity loss in Horrific Visions, the solo and group challenge scenarios set in corrupted versions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Without it, players would quickly succumb to N’Zoth’s influence and fail their runs. The cloak also played a role in the Ny’alotha raid, aiding players in their final confrontation with the Old God himself. Now however, Ny’alotha is fully manageable solo without the cloak due to the nerfs in patch 10.2.7.
Blizzard has not announced a new legendary cloak in their Patch 11.1.5 preview, making it unclear whether this item will be fully functional or just a cosmetic reward. Given that we’ve also found purely cosmetic versions—Ashjra’kamas, The Corrupted, The Purified, and The Celestial—it seems likely that these cloaks will serve as appearance rewards rather than endgame gear.

Since the original cloak was closely tied to Horrific Visions, it’s reasonable to speculate that these appearances—and possibly the cloak itself—could be obtainable through the returning feature. It’s also possible that these cloaks will function similarly to the legendary Pandaria cloaks from the MoP Remix, remaining available only as transmog options (or toys in case of Fortitude of Niuzao, Essence of Yu’lon, Fury of Xuen, and Kindness of Chi-Ji). Atleast we know, it won’t be a temporary cloak change toy like Armoire of Endless Cloaks (Earned from Wrathion reputation in Dragonflight expansion).
Conclusion
At this stage, there are still many unanswered questions. Will the cloak be mandatory for a new feature, or will it remain cosmetic-only? If it is a real item, will it offer any unique abilities? For now, we can only wait for further updates from the PTR. Stay tuned for more datamining news as patch 11.1.5 development continues.
