Turtle WoW Developers: WoW Classic to Unreal Engine 5
Private server Turtle WoW developers are planning to port WoW Classic to Unreal Engine 5, and it looks gorgeous!

If you’re into WoW, especially WoW Classic, then you must be no stranger to private WoW servers. These servers provide alternative experiences for players who aren’t satisfied with the official game’s direction or wish to play the expansions no longer supported in official realms. Turtle WoW is one such server, offering a Classic experience with new features and an alternative storyline. The developers are not stopping there but are taking a step beyond. Recently, they announced plans to enhance the game’s visuals by porting it to Unreal Engine 5, aiming to further delight gamers on their private server.
According to the developers, this will be Turtle WoW 2.0. The recreation of the original WoW from the 1.12 update era on Unreal Engine 5 features improved graphics and a variety of features for both players and developers. The new client will likely be available in 2025. Below is a short video of what players can expect:
Some key features of Turtle WoW 2.0 include:
- The client will support a classic mode featuring original WoW graphics and a modern mode with upgraded textures, models, dynamic shadows, quality lighting, and other advanced Unreal Engine features.
- Players can play the game on PCs and Android devices, including tablets and smartphones.
- The client will support all unique content released for the original Turtle WoW, including the “Mysteries of Azeroth” expansion, as well as custom addons and mods.
- The client will feature built-in anti-cheat and anti-bot systems.
- The client will provide developers with new opportunities and tools to create unprecedented content that was previously impossible or too difficult due to the limitations of the original game.
- Various graphical improvements, such as widescreen support, DLSS and AMD FidelityFX options, Field of View adjustments, and more.
- Removed many old client limitations, such as the 20-quest limit, and introduced modern options like font and UI element size adjustments, speech-to-text and text-to-speech support, and many others.
