Note
Great news for your TBC Anniversary alts! In addition to other changes in Anniversary realms, Blizzard has announced that attunements are now account-wide.
Before we start, we sincerely recommend Attune addon. This TBC addon is a great way to track your attunement not only from TBC but also for Vanilla attunements like Onyxia’s Lair. Now to the main TBC Attunement guide. TBC unlike Classic is pretty straightforward with its attunements and most of Attunements require simple dungeon run.
Normal dungeons
There are exactly 4 dungeons that require some basic attunes. They are: Shadow Labyrinth, The Arcatraz, The Black Morass, and The Shattered Halls.
Shadow Labyrinth is the easiest one requiring you to have Shadow Labyrinth Key from Sethekk Halls last boss.
The Arcatraz will require you to have a flying mount.
- Accept Consortium Crystal Collection from Nether-Stalker Khay’ji in Area 52, Netherstorm.
- Loot Arklon Crystal Artifact from demons near Arklon Ruins, return to Khay’ji, and pick up A Heap of Ethereals.
- Loot Zaxxis Insignia from Zaxxis Raiders south of Area 52.
- Group up to kill Warp-Raider Nesaad in the same area.
- Go to Gahruj in Eco-Dome Midrealm for Request for Assistance.
- Complete Rightful Repossession by retrieving the Box of Surveying Equipment inside the Eco-Dome.
- Visit the Stormspire and talk to Image of Nexus-Prince Haramad.
- Complete Triangulation Point One near Manaforge Ultris (east) and Triangulation Point Two near Manaforge Ara (west). It requires you to have Triangulation Device.
- Finish Full Triangle by killing Culuthas in the Ruins of Farahlon and looting Ata’mal Crystal.
- Return to Shattrath, speak to A’dal, and pick up How to Break Into the Arcatraz.
- Group up for The Mechanar; defeat Pathaleon the Calculator and loot the Bottom Shard of the Arcatraz Key.
- Group up for The Botanica; defeat Warp Splinter and loot the Top Shard of the Arcatraz Key.
- Return to A’dal with both key shards to receive the Key to the Arcatraz.
The Shattered Halls requires you to complete small quest chain.
- Kill Smith Gorlunk in Shadowmoon Valley and loot Primed Key Mold. Accept Entry Into the Citadel (faction-specific).
- Turn in the quest at Honor Hold or Thrallmar. Pick up follow-ups: Grand Master Dumphry → Grand Master Dumphry (Alliance) or Grand Master Rohok → Rohok’s Request (Horde).
- Collect and turn in materials: 4 Fel Iron Bars, 2 Arcane Dust, 4 Mote of Fire.
- Pick up Hotter than Hell, form a group, and kill a Fel Reaver in Hellfire Peninsula.
- Use the Fel Reaver corpse to convert Unfired Key Mold into Charred Key Mold.
- Return the Charred Key Mold to Dumphry or Rohok to receive the Shattered Halls Key.
Heroic dungeons
The next steps to prepare for Karazhan or to complete your pre-raid BiS lists are Heroic dungeons. Not all Heroic dungeons require TBC attunement, but some do. We’ve created a separate table to make this clear:
| Key Name | Dungeon Hub | Required Faction |
|---|---|---|
| Flamewrought Key | Hellfire Citadel | Honor Hold / Thrallmar |
| Reservoir Key | Coilfang Reservoir | Cenarion Expedition |
| Auchenai Key | Auchindoun | Lower City |
| Warpforged Key | Tempest Keep | The Sha’tar |
| Key of Time | Caverns of Time | Keepers of Time |
Karazhan raid TBC Attunement guide

And here is the main Attunement for first phase – Karazhan. There are 4 major steps required to get The Master’s Key in TBC, each step is consisted of smaller steps.
First things first, at level 68 start doing Deadwin Pass questline. Find Archmage Alturus in Deadwind Pass near the Karazhan entrance and accept Arcane Disturbances and Restless Activity, complete them with nearby objectives. Turn in both quests and pick up Contact from Dalaran, then travel to Alterac Mountains to find Archmage Cedric and accept Khadgar quest. Finally, locate Khadgar in Shattrath and pick up Entry Into Karazhan to start the attunement chain.
Remember we focus on some dungeons from before? Those are needed to proceed TBC Karazhan attunement. After obtaining the Shadow Labyrinth Key, form a group and clear Shadow Labyrinth. After defeating Murmur, open the Arcane Container behind him to spawn First Fragment Guardian, kill it, and loot the First Key Fragment. Return to Khadgar in Shattrath and pick up the next quest, The Second and Third Fragments.
After unlocking the Arcatraz Dungeon, form a group for The Steamvault and clear up to the first boss, Hydromancer Thespia. Open the Arcane Container under the water near the platform to spawn Second Fragment Guardian, kill it, and loot the Second Key Fragment.
Then, group up for The Arcatraz and clear to the first boss, Zereketh the Unbound. In the nearby room of Voidwalkers, open the Arcane Container to spawn Third Fragment Guardian, kill it, and loot the Third Key Fragment. With both fragments, return to Khadgar and pick up The Master’s Touch, obtaining the Restored Apprentice’s Key.
After unlocking the Black Morass Dungeon, with The Master’s Touch and The Black Morass in your quest log, form a group and enter The Black Morass. Speak with Sa’at inside to turn in The Black Morass and accept The Opening of the Dark Portal, then defend Medivh and witness the portal’s opening. After completing the dungeon, turn in Hero of the Brood to Sa’at and The Master’s Touch to Medivh, then pick up Return to Khadgar.
Return to Khadgar in Shattrath to turn it in and receive The Master’s Key. Khadgar also offers a follow-up, The Violet Eye, which you’ll turn in at Karazhan.
TBC Phase 2 raids attunement guide

Before proceeding to Phase 2 Attunements make sure you:
- Have access to Coilfang Reservoir, The Arcatraz, The Steamvault, Sethekk Halls, Shattered Halls, and Shadow Labyrinth all on Heroic difficulty.
- Have Honored with The Violet Hold
- Have unlocked Karazhan
With this done we can start doing Phase 2 Attunes
Serpentshrine Cavern Attunement

First things first, get a group together for Heroic Slave Pens and clear your way to the first boss, Mennu the Betrayer. After defeating him, look for Skar’this the Heretic inside a nearby cage. Speak with him to pick up The Cudgel of Kar’desh quest, which requires you to obtain both the Earthen Signet and the Blazing Signet. Earthen Signet is the quickest – you need to defeat Gruul in his raid for it.
Blazing Signet requires more elaborate steps and a Karazhan attunement. You’ll first need to unlock Nightbane. Once you reach Honored with The Violet Eye, pick up Medivh’s Journal from Archmage Alturus outside Karazhan.
Enter Karazhan and clear at least four bosses until you find Wravien. Turn in Medivh’s Journal and accept In Good Hands and Kamsis. Gradav is located in the same room, allowing you to complete In Good Hands immediately.
- After locating Kamsis, accept her follow-up quest, The Shade of Aran, and defeat Shade of Aran. Loot Medivh’s Journal from the encounter and return it to Kamsis to receive The Master’s Terrace.
- Complete The Master’s Terrace by reading the journal, witnessing the roleplay event, and returning to Archmage Alturus outside Karazhan.
- Your next quest, Digging Up the Past, requires you to collect a Charred Bone Fragment. This quest cannot be completed while in a raid group, so make sure to leave your raid before continuing.
- Turn in the fragment to Kalynna Lathred outside Area 52 in Netherstorm and accept Kalynna’s Request.
- To complete the quest, run Sethekk Halls and loot the Book of Forgotten Names from Darkweaver Syth, then clear The Shattered Halls and loot the Tome of Dusk from Grand Warlock Nethekurse.
- Return to Kalynna Lathred and accept Nightbane, which rewards the Blackened Urn. With the urn in your inventory, you can now summon Nightbane inside Karazhan and loot Blazing Signet.
While having both Signets get your group for Heroic Slave Pens once again and turn in the quest. The reward is The Mark of Vashj spell which will allow you to proceed.
Tempest Keep Attunement

Tempest Keep attunement is even longer activity which will require you first to complete most of the quests in Shadowmoon Valley, which would take a while. Our guide assumes you’ve already completed The Cipher of Damnation questline.
First go to Shattrath and speak to Khadgar to pick up The Tempest Keep Key quest. This will initiate Ad’al trials which you need to complete to proceed further. Pick up quests from Ad’al. The fist Trial quest is Trial of the Naaru: Mercy. Get a well-geared group for Heroic Shattered Halls, and sppedrun through it. Your goal is receiving Unused Axe of the Executioner from Shattered Hand Executioner. It will drop if all the prisoners are alive.
Trial of the Naaru: Strength follows next, get a group for the Steamvault Heroic to get Kalithresh’s Trident from the last boss. Next, proceed with the Shadow Labyrinth Heroic to get Murmur’s Essence from Murmur. This will be enough to proceed for the next trial.
Trial of the Naaru: Tenacity is the third trial and will require you to complete the Arcatraz on Heroic difficulty while keeping Millhouse Manastorm alive.
Our final destination for Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon is ofcourse Magtheridon’s Lair. Join or create group for the raid, defeat the boss, return to Shattrath and the attune for Tempest Keep will be completed, awarding you both Phoenix-fire Band (Good ring overall) and The Tempest Key.
And that wraps up our TBC Anniversary attune guide for Phase 2! If you want to skip some of these tedious questlines, you can rely on WoW TBC boost.
