Why should you choose Leatherworking as your profession
Leatherworking is a crafting profession that enables you to craft gear and bags using leather, furs, and other materials primarily obtained from beasts, making it a popular choice to pair with Skinning. Additionally, Leatherworking lets you craft various Armor Kits that improve the stats of head, chest, shoulders, legs, hands, or feet gear, such as Stamina, Dodge Rating, Spirit, and more, enhancing your character. By choosing Leatherworking, you gain access to valuable gear for personal use or for selling at the Auction House for an extra income, making it an excellent profession choice.
In MoP Classic, each profession offers its owner unique perks. As for Leatherworking, this profession allows players to craft high-quality endgame gear and powerful bracer enchants, which increase some of your stats:
- Draconic Embossment – Agility
- Draconic Embossment – Intellect
- Draconic Embossment – Stamina
- Draconic Embossment – Strength
In addition, you can also craft the following leg enchants, which require only 2x Blackened Dragonscale and Leatherworking at level 465:
- Charscale Leg Reinforcements: Increases Stamina by 145 and Agility by 55
- Dragonbone Leg Reinforcements: Increases Attack Power by 190 and Critical Strike Rating by 55
- Drakehide Leg Reinforcements: Increases Stamina by 145 and Dodge Rating by 55
What is the best combo with Leatherworking in WoW
Leatherworking is most effective when combined with Skinning, as it allows you to gather many necessary materials yourself without relying on the Auction House, which is especially helpful when leveling up your Leatherworking skill, even if it is on an alt. Crafting requires a substantial amount of Leather, so farming your materials can significantly help you save gold and make even more by crafting endgame gear and selling it to other players.

Below, you will find an estimate of the materials required to level up your Leatherworking profession from level 1 to 525.

In Mists of Pandaria, you don’t have to run around to different trainers to learn different Leatherworking ranks. All the trainers in the major cities can teach you everything you need to know. Remember that Horde and Alliance trainers are different, so we’ve separated them to make things easier for you.

MoP Classic Leatherworking guide: Leveling
And now, it’s time for the main dish. Below, you will discover a comprehensive MoP Classic Leatherworking guide that will let you advance through as many levels with the least materials needed as possible.
Apprentice Leatherworking
- 1-20: 19x Light Leather – 57x Ruined Leather Scraps. Craft the next recipe if you don’t have Ruined Leather Scraps.
- 20-45 or 1-45: 40x Light Armor Kit – 40x Light Leather
- 45-55: 20x Handstitched Leather Cloak – 40x Light Leather, 20x Coarse Thread
Journeyman Leatherworking
Once you have reached level 10, visit your Leatherworking trainer and learn Journeyman Leatherworking.
- 55-100: 50x Embossed Leather Gloves – 150x Light Leather, 100x Coarse Thread
- 100-120: 25x Fine Leather Belt – 150x Light Leather, 50x Coarse Thread. Check the Auction House to see if the price of 1x Medium Hide is cheaper than 4x Medium Leather. If it is, buy up to 25x Medium Hide, but do not exceed this amount and avoid purchasing if the prices are high. Use Medium Hide to craft as many Cured Medium Hide as possible. Keep both the Fine Leather Belt and the Cured Medium Hide, as they are necessary for making Dark Leather Belt.
- 120-135: 20x Dark Leather Boots – 80x Medium Leather, 40x Fine Thread, 20x Gray Dye
Expert Leatherworking
Once you have reached level 20, visit your Leatherworking trainer and learn Expert Leatherworking.
- 135-150: 25x Dark Leather Pants – 300x Medium Leather, 25x Gray Dye, 25x Fine Thread
- 150-155: 7x Heavy Leather – 35x Medium Leather
- 155-165: 20x Cured Heavy Hide – 20x Heavy Hide, 60x Salt. You will need the Cured Heavy Hides later.
- 165-180: 15x Heavy Armor Kit – 75x Heavy Leather, 15x Fine Thread
- 180-190: 10x Barbaric Shoulders – 80x Heavy Leather, 10x Cured Heavy Hide, 20x Fine Thread
- 190-200: 10x Guardian Gloves – 40x Heavy Leather, 10x Cured Heavy Hide, 10x Silken Thread
- 200-205: 7x Thick Armor Kit – 35x Thick Leather, 7x Silken Thread
Artisan Leatherworking
Once you have reached level 35, visit your Leatherworking trainer and learn Artisan Leatherworking.
- 205-235: 40x Nightscape Headband – 200x Thick Leather, 80x Silken Thread. You need more Silken Thread to craft these than the Thick Armor Kits, but you can sell the Headbands to the vendor for a lot more, so they are cheaper than crafting the Armor Kits.
- 235-250: 15x Nightscape Pants – 210x Thick Leather, 60x Silken Thread
- 250-265: 25x Rugged Armor Kit – 125x Rugged Leather
- 265-290: 28x Wicked Leather Bracers – 224x Rugged Leather, 28x Black Dye, 28x Rune Thread
- 290-300: 10x Wicked Leather Headband – 120x Rugged Leather, 10x Black Dye, 10x Rune Thread
The Burning Crusade Leatherworking
Master Leatherworking
Once you have reached level 50, visit your Leatherworking trainers and learn Master Leatherworking.
- 300-325: 30x Knothide Armor Kit – 120x Knothide Leather. Before crafting the Armor Kits, convert all your Knothide Leather Scraps into Knothide Leather if you have farmed enough Leather. Also, make sure that the recipe will be yellow, so you may need to craft a few extra.
- 325-335: 66x Heavy Knothide Leather – 330x Knothide Leather
- 335-350: 22x Thick Draenic Vest – 66x Heavy Knothide Leather, 66x Rune Thread. The recipe will be yellow for 10 points, so you might have to craft a few more to reach level 350. Rune Thread can be purchased from the Leatherworking supply vendor near your trainer.
WotLK Leatherworking
Grand Master Leatherworking
Once you have reached level 65, visit your Leatherworking trainers to continue your Grand Master journey. If you’re a Skinner, convert all your Borean Leather Scraps into Borean Leather using a recipe from your trainer. Avoid right-clicking the Leather Scraps; instead, learn the recipe that provides skill-ups for easy skill points.:
- 350-380: 35x Borean Armor Kit – 175x Borean Leather
- 380-386: 6x Arctic Boots – 48x Borean Leather
- 386-390: 4x Arctic Gloves – 40x Borean Leather
- 390-405: 92x Heavy Borean Leather – 552x Borean Leather. If you purchased the Heavy Borean Leather from the Auction House, craft Arctic Belt and Arctic Wristguards.
- 405-410: 10x Arctic Wristguards – 120x Borean Leather. Note that you may need to craft more than 10, as this recipe is yellow.
- 410-420: Craft 13x from one of these: 13x Dark Frostscale Leggings – 52x Heavy Borean Leather, 65x Crystallized Water; 13x Dark Iceborne Leggings – 52x Heavy Borean Leather, 65x Crystallized Shadow. Both will be yellow, so you might have to craft more.
- 420-425: 5x Overcast Bracers – 40x Heavy Borean Leather, 5x Eternal Water. To obtain Pattern: Overcast Bracers, visit Braeg Stoutbeard in front of the Leatherworking trainer’s building.
Cataclysm Leatherworking
Reaching level 75, seek out your trainers and follow this guide to reach the maximum Cataclysm Leatherworking level:
- 425-435: 10x Savage Leather – 50x Savage Leather Scraps. If you don’t have enough Savage Leather Scraps, move on to the next recipe. If you have more Scraps, continue crafting Savage Leather until it no longer provides skill points.
- 435-450: 15x Savage Armor Kit – 75x Savage Leather
- 450-460: 10x Tsunami Boots – 70x Savage Leather, 10x Eternium Thread. You can purchase Eternium Threads from Leatherworking Supply vendors. Additionally, you can craft any item that requires 7x Savage Leather.
- 460-470: 10x Savage Cloak – 70x Savage Leather, 10x Eternium Thread
- 470-475: 5x Darkbrand Boots – 50x Savage Leather, 5x Eternium Thread
- 475-480: 5x Darkbrand Shoulders – 60x Savage Leather, 5x Eternium Thread. You can also craft Scorched Leg Armor up to level 485.
- 480-485: 5x Darkbrand Chestguard – 60x Savage Leather, 5x Eternium Thread. You could also craft Twilight Leg Armor up to level 490, or any other orange item that requires 12x Savage Leather.
- 485-490: 152x Heavy Savage Leather – 760x Savage Leather
- 490-496: 2x Darkbrand Leggings – 8x Heavy Savage Leather, 24x Volatile Earth
- 496-502: 2x Cloak of Beasts – 16x Heavy Savage Leather, 4x Volatile Earth, 4x Volatile Air, 4x Volatile Water, 4x Volatile Fire
- 502-504: 2x Darkbrand Helm – 10x Heavy Savage Leather. Stop crafting these at level 504.
- 504-510: Craft 1 of the following items: 2x Cloak of Beasts – 16x Heavy Savage Leather, 4x Volatile Earth, 4x Volatile Air, 4x Volatile Water, 4x Volatile Fire; 2x Cloak of War – 120x Blackened Dragonscale
MoP Classic Leatherworking
- 500-526:
13x Mist-Touched Leather – 65 Sha-Touched Leather The Fur Lining recipes will become green again at 500. You can make any of those up to 505. You can buy Eternium Threads from Tailoring and Leatherworking supply vendors. But if you already have the Sha-Touched Leathers from skinning mobs, just make Mist-Touched Leathers. - 526-536:

Each Contender’s Armor recipe costs 1 Spirit of Harmony—crafted from 10 Motes of Harmony, which drop from most Pandaria mobs (low drop rate; ~2 hours to farm). Buy any recipe; more leather means more skill points. You’ll need ~150 Mist-Touched Leather or Prismatic Scales.
