Why choose Alchemy in MoP Classic
Alchemy is an incredible profession in MoP Classic. If you’re an Alchemist, you can mix herbs to make potions, flasks, elixirs, and other helpful stuff for yourself or to sell at the Auction House. These items are handy for taking on tough PvE challenges at the end of the expansion because they give your character a big boost. It’s a good idea to pair Alchemy with Herbalism because you’ll need lots of herbs for your potions, and gathering them yourself can be cheaper than buying them at the Auction House.
Moreover, Alchemy gives you a unique buff called Mixology, which boosts the stats and duration of your flasks and elixirs. With Alchemy, you can also get additional perks:
- Zen Alchemist Stone — While not the strongest trinket, it serves as a decent universal option for a time and can be useful in various situations.
- Alchemist’s Flask — A reusable flask for Alchemists that grants +320 to your top stat. Offers a constant boost like other profession perks and works in Arenas where flasks are banned.
- Transmute: Living Steel — A reliable daily gold source, particularly profitable if you specialize in Transmutation.
Best combo with Alchemy in MoP Classic
Combining Alchemy and Herbalism works really well together. Having both professions will help you save a lot of gold since you can gather the required herbs yourself, making the leveling process smooth and cost-effective.

MoP Classic Alchemy guide: Leveling
And now, it’s time for the main dish. Below, you will discover a comprehensive MoP Classic Alchemy guide that will let you advance through as many levels with the least materials needed as possible from level:
Apprentice Alchemy
- 1–60: 65x Minor Healing Potion – 65x Peacebloom, 65x Silverleaf, 65x Crystal Vial. Keep the Potions around for later. The Crystal Vial is sold by Alchemy supply vendors, so don’t buy them at the Auction House.
Journeyman Alchemy
Once you have reached level 10, visit your Alchemy trainer and learn Journeyman Alchemy.
- 60-110: 65x Lesser Healing Potion – 65x Peacebloom, 65x Silverleaf, 65x Crystal Vial
- 110-140: 35x Healing Potion – 35x Bruiseweed, 35x Briarthorn, 35x Crystal Vial
Expert Alchemy
Once you have reached level 20, visit your Alchemy trainer and learn Expert Alchemy.
- 140-155: 20x Lesser Mana Potion – 20x Mageroyal, 20x Stranglekelp. This recipe will be yellow for the last 10 points, so you might have to make a few extra. If you don’t have Stranglekelp or if Firefin Snapper is cheap, you can make Fire Oil instead. Alternatively, you could continue making more Healing Potions.
- 155-185: 35x Greater Healing Potion – 35x Liferoot, 35x Kingsblood. If you create Fire Oil, you can use it to craft Elixir of Firepower.
- 185-210: 30x Elixir of Agility – 30x Stranglekelp, 30x Goldthorn. If you have limited Goldthorn, consider making Mana Potions or Lesser Invisibility Potions until you reach around level 195. If you have no Goldthorn at all, you can make Nature Protection Potions from levels 190 to 215. Recipe: Nature Protection Potion is sold by specific vendors and is a limited supply item, so it may take some time to respawn if someone else has already purchased it.
Artisan Alchemy
Once you have reached level 35, visit your Alchemy trainer and learn Artisan Alchemy.
- 210-215: 5x Elixir of Greater Defense – 5x Steelbloom, 5x Goldthorn
- 215-239: 28x Superior Healing Potion – 28x Sungrass, 28x Khadgar’s Whisker. This recipe will be yellow for the last few points, so you might have to make a few extra.
- 239 – 240: 1x Philosopher’s Stone – 4x Iron Bar, 1x Black Vitriol, 4x Purple Lotus, 4x Firebloom. You will need this for Alchemy transmutes, so make sure to keep it (no need to equip it). The recipe can be purchased from Alchemist Pestlezugg in Tanaris.

Mists of Pandaria Alchemy
Start by learning Zen Alchemy from an Alchemy trainer in a major city.
Leveling Pandaria Alchemy works differently than other expansions. At 500 skill, trainers only offer two recipes. As you craft them, you’ll discover more recipes on your own. There’s no set path, your progress depends on which recipes you uncover while crafting.
Pro tip
Focus on crafting potions that use Green Tea Leaf, as it’s the most common and affordable herb in Pandaria. Keep crafting the cheapest available potions to discover new recipes. Avoid making green recipes if orange or yellow ones are still available.
- 500 – 530 — Craft Zen Alchemist Stone, then x40 Alchemist’s Rejuvenation or Master Healing Potion.
- 530 – 545 — Your crafting priority is: Mantid Elixir > Potion of the Jade Serpent > Elixir of Weaponry, > Potion of the Mountains > Mad Hozen Elixir.
- 545 – 575 — Your crafting priority is: Virmen’s Bite > Elixir of Perfection > Elixir of the Rapids.
- 575 – 600 — Craft Master Mana Potion, or if you haven’t discovered it yet, continue crafting the earlier potions.
And so, congratulations on successfully reaching the pinnacle of Mists of Pandaria Alchemy! We hope that this guide has been able to aid you. Special thanks to WoW-professions for providing such a valuable resource. May your Alchemy adventures continue to bring you great joy in your WoW journey!
If you’re short on time or prefer to skip the grind, consider using WoW MoP Classic powerleveling.
