Players can obtain the Corrupted Ashbringer, a powerful two-handed sword with impressive stats and effects. However, it’s only available to certain classes and requires defeating all Scarlet Enclave bosses at least once. You’ll also need to farm numerous quest items and complete a series of quests. Let’s begin by looking at the weapon itself.
Ashbringer stats
So far, only Paladins have completed the Ashbringer questline, but it’s almost certain the weapon will appear the same when equipped by other classes.
One of the most interesting aspects of this weapon is its -30 Stamina debuff. While this does lower your survivability, the trade-off is absolutely worth it. The damage output is just too high to ignore.
Who can get Ashbringer
Only 3 classes can obtain the Ashbringer: Paladins, Warriors, and Hunters.
For Paladins and Warriors, it’s a no-brainer. The Ashbringer outperforms nearly every other weapon in terms of raw damage, making it a top priority to acquire as soon as possible. Hunters, on the other hand, will rarely go for it, as it doesn’t align with their typical ranged DPS playstyle. While a melee DPS Hunter build is possible, it’s still considered a niche and questionable choice.

How to purify Ashbringer
At the end of the Ashbringer questline, you will obtain the Corrupted Ashbringer. The purified version of this legendary weapon is not available to wield permanently, but you can temporarily purify the Ashbringer.
Fight with the Ashbringer equipped, and it will occasionally cast the Consumption ability, which steals life from up to 5 enemies and grants you Strength or Agility. If you stack this effect 5 times, your Ashbringer will become purified for the duration of the effect.
How to get Ashbringer in SoD
Getting the Ashbringer in Phase 8 isn’t an easy task. It requires time, effort, and often the support of your guild. While it is technically possible to obtain it without guild help, you’ll need to consistently complete the Scarlet Enclave raid with some parties to collect and roll all the necessary quest items.
Ashbringer starting quest in SoD
To begin the Ashbringer quests, you’ll need to defeat High Commander Beatrix in the Scarlet Enclave and loot the Ruined Lightforged Blade from her. This item has a 91% drop chance.

Ashbringer Scarlet Enclave and Naxx quests
Here’s the full starting Ashbringer questline, complete with our tips and commentary to guide you through each step:
- Click on Ruined Lightforged Blade and get Blades of Light quest.
- Go to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands and find Craftsman Wilhelm.
- /way 81.0, 59.6
- Talk to him and get The Lost Craftsman quest.
- Buy 10 Dirge’s Kickin’ Chimaerok Chops from the Auction House.
- Craft it yourself if possible to save gold.
- Go to the Naxxramas and find Master Craftsman Omarion.
- He is locked in a cage inside the Military Quarter of Naxxramas (the Death Knight Wing). To reach him, you’ll need to clear the first hallway and room of trash mobs.
- Gather a group to do so.
- Talk to him, get Extravagant Tastes quest, and complete it with 10 Dirge’s Kickin’ Chimaerok Chops.
- Get Gathering Light at the same spot from Master Craftsman Omarion.
- Collect 12 Lightforged Iron.
- Lightforged Iron drops from Scarlet Enclave bosses and from Scarlet Junkbox.
- Return to Master Craftsman Omarion in Naxx and get This Could Get Expensive quest.
- Gather the following crafting materials:
- Arcanite Bar x20
- Obsidian-Infused Thorium Bar x20
- Truesilver Bar x120
- Huge Emerald x10
- Righteous Orb x20
- Defeat Grand Crusader Caldoran in Scarlet Enclave raid and loot Hilt of the Ashbringer from him.
- Click on it and get The Ashbringer quest.
- Equip Hilt of the Ashbringer and use it.
- Talk to the summoned The Will of the Ashbringer and get On Fate’s Path quest.
- Go to the Master Craftsman Omarion inside the Scarlet Crusade raid. He is in the New Avalon forge.
- Get The Blade Reformed quest and Reforged Blade of the Ashbringer from him.
- Use Hilt of the Ashbringer, summon The Will of the Ashbringer, and talk to them.
- Get Emblem of Darkness from them.
- Leave the raid, go to the Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands, and find Lord Maxwell Tyrosus.

- Get Emblem of the Ashbringer and Falling Into Place quest from him.
- Combine all quest items into Inert Ashbringer.

- It drops from Cobalt Scalebane, Cobalt Wyrmkin, and Cobalt Mageweaver in Mazthoril

- Find Thisalee Crow in Winterspring and turn in the quests.

- Pick up the quest As the Crow Flies from her and turn it in once you arrive.
- Click on Inert Ashbringer, summon The Will of the Ashbringer, and talk to them.
- Get The Well of Eternity quest.
- Defeat Animated Detritus or loot Fallen World Tree Branches to collect 12 Nordrassil Detritus.
- Find Hyjal Bonfire.

- Go underneath the great tree Nordrassil and find the water of the Well of Eternity.

- Leave the Hyjal and head into Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral in Tirisfal Glades.
- Equip Corrupted Ashbringer.
- Go to Scarlet Commander Mograine boss at the end of Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral.

- Get The Lonely Path of the Damned quest from Highlord Mograine.
- Leave Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral and unequip Corrupted Ashbringer.
