Overwatch 2 Faces Backlash for Introducing Paid Story Missions

Overwatch 2 is once again at the center of controversy. This time because Blizzard has introduced paid story missions into the game’s sixth season: Invasion.

The Bundles

The Hero Mode, a long-awaited feature, was announced to be discontinued last month. Thus, the community has already been in a sour state of distress. Yet, another disheartening update has emerged and added to their disappointment.

Apparently, players will need to spend $15 for the Invasion Bundle to gain access to the story missions. You will also get 1,000 OW Coins. Usually, this amount alone already costs you around $10. Other than that, you can also expect to get the Sojourn Legendary Skin as part of your purchase.

For those hungry for more, you may find interest in the $40 Ultimate Invasion Bundle. This package brings an additional 1000 OW Coins. If you are a Cassidy or Kiriko main, or both, then perhaps this is a piece of good news for you. Because their Legendary skins are also included. And last but not least, you will get your hands on the Null Sector Premium BP. It’s an elite pass that grants you 20 Tier skips.

Reactions and Developer Response

Blizzard’s decision to charge for the story missions has generated quite a wave of negative reactions from fans. After all, for a long time, gamers have considered the story as part of the title’s core content. By guarding it behind a paywall, Blizzard has only fueled the disappointment and frustration of their player base.

Overwatch 2: Invasion is set to launch on August 10. However, discontentment is mounting in the community. The future direction of Overwatch 2 remains uncertain amidst this controversy. What is clear, though, is that the fans are far from pleased with these recent developments.
