Key Takeaways

  • The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has had its difficulty nerfed due to player complaints.
  • The recent update focuses on boosting player power in the first part of the DLC, making it easier to take on early Erdtree bosses.
  • Hidetaka Miyazaki initially intended the expansion to be highly challenging, but the update aims to make the game more bearable for players.

Shadow of the Erdtree (SoTE) has been live since June 21, 2024. Although its release was grandiose, the community was experiencing some problems due to its high difficulty. Fortunately, the Development Team considered all the complaints and implemented a calibration update that reduced the difficulty and empowered players to make their adventure through the Land of Shadow more bearable.

FromSoftware games are known in the gaming community for their high difficulty level. Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree is not an exception. Even for fans of Souls-like games having hundreds of hours under their belt, Shadow of the Erdtree was undeniably challenging, leading the community to create multiple mods that lowered the challenge.

Answering the question about SoTE being too hard, Elden Ring’s Game Director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, once said that the new expansion is intended to be highly challenging. Reducing its difficulty would break the initial concept of the universe itself. After all, conquering exceptionally tough challenges allows players to revel in the profound satisfaction of witnessing their adversaries’ defeat.

So, there wasn’t much hope for those who found SoTE too relentless for their liking. However, after a recent update, things are looking up for the Tarnished as Shadow of the Erdtree difficulty is nerfed.

Shadow of the Erdtree’s difficulty has been nerfed: What’s changed?

For a better understanding of the update, let’s refer to the Scadutree Fragments, high-priority upgrade materials that give you a boost in attack and defense. Overall, there are 20 levels of Scadutree Blessings in the game. With the recent Patch Notes Version 1.12.2, the attack and damage negation for the first half of the max Blessing enhancements has been increased. As for the second half, it will now be more gradual. Besides, the attack and damage negation for the final level of these Blessings has been slightly bumped up, which will greatly help triumph over the final Erdtree boss.

So, what does this mean for you? This update significantly boosts the power of players in the first part of the DLC, making it easier to take on the early Erdtree bosses like Rellana. You may notice the difference if you use Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash

However, we hope that this update will assist many players in advancing the story further by allowing them to explore the new Lands of Shadow locations and defeat formidable bosses without encountering those challenges.
