Destiny Rising, a mobile game that has been quietly developing for years, is still moving forward despite the recent upheaval at Bungie. However, now that many Bungie employees are out of the company, we are getting many more leaks about the Bungie projects.
Destiny Rising leaks: game development
NetEase, the same studio behind Diablo Immortal, handles most of the game’s development. This comes from a long-standing investment deal Bungie made with the company. However, very few Bungie employees have worked on the game, and sources indicate that NetEase was unhappy when Bungie sold to Sony. Despite this, the project is still alive.
Bungie has reportedly contributed to the game’s narrative, but NetEase has been left to do most gameplay design. This could explain why Destiny Rising might feel closer to Diablo Immortal than the Destiny titles core players are familiar with.
Contrary to speculation, Destiny Rising is not a way to play Destiny 2 on mobile. Instead, it’s a standalone prequel to Destiny 1 set in a much earlier period of Destiny’s history. While it’s said to mirror the core gameplay of Destiny, the game is played from the third-person perspective, but it will switch to a first-person perspective when aiming.
It will feature well-known characters from Destiny’s lore, potentially including figures like Zavala, Ikora, and Shaxx. It’s possible the story will be set during the Warlord era, a chaotic period before the City was formed. New characters could also be introduced, expanding the series’ rich backstory.
Reports suggest Destiny Rising will include familiar elements like missions and strikes, with the possibility of a raid. The game was testing a Fallen-themed raid at some point. It’s unclear if PvP will make it into the game’s final version.
Destiny Rising leaks: monetization model and target audience
While it’s not yet known how the game will be monetized, the closest comparison seems to be Diablo Immortal, a game known for its pay-to-win mechanics. This has raised concerns about how aggressive the microtransactions in Destiny Rising could be.
Unlike Destiny 2, Destiny Rising is aimed at an entirely different audience. Sources say the game is “100% aimed at the Asian market,” where mobile games with heavy microtransactions are much more accepted. While current Destiny players could still enjoy it, the game’s monetization and design will likely be shaped with mobile and Eastern markets in mind.
Destiny Rising leaks: reveal date speculation
Although the game has been in development for years, there’s still no clear launch window. Some speculate that Bungie is holding off on announcing the game to avoid backlash, especially since Destiny 2 faces criticism and low player morale. When the game is finally revealed, it’s likely that NetEase will take the lead in marketing, unlike Bungie or Sony.
The new leaks revealed much new information about the game; however, most of it can still change. Considering the focus on new audiences, seeing how this game will perform while being a part of Destiny’s lore will be interesting. What do you think about the prospects of such a game?
