Destiny 2 Frontiers news is here, and we are more excited than ever!
Table of Contents
The uncertain future of Destiny after the conclusion of the major saga has stirred the community, especially given the issues within Bungie. Nevertheless, Bungie has brought a ton of information about what lies ahead in the near future, especially in Frontiers. So, let’s dive into what we can expect in the upcoming year from this game!
Destiny 2 Codename: Frontiers roadmap
Bungie is moving away from releasing one major expansion each year. Instead, next year, we’ll see two medium-sized expansions, one every six months. In addition to this, every three months, there will be free Major Updates or Seasons, which will include new Strikes, Exotic missions, modes, rewards, and weekly events. The Rewards Pass will still cost money, but free rewards like Exotic Weapons will remain available.
Codename: Apollo expansion
The next expansion will be Codename: Apollo, which will kick off a new Destiny saga. Its main feature will be a nonlinear campaign, where you can choose the order of the missions. Additionally, the D2 Narrative Director mentioned that we can expect a teaser for this expansion at the end of the following two episodes. As a result, no further story details were revealed.
The Portal system
The Portal was created to simplify the search for new and updated activities, as many new players get confused with the Destinations map. There will be five categories:
- Solo Ops: Quick, easy 1-3 player activities
- Fireteam Ops: 3-player activities like Strikes, Onslaught, The Coil
- Flashpoint Ops: Сhaotic 6-player activities
- Pinnacle Ops: Сhallenging 3-player activities like Dungeons and full-length Onslaught
- Crucible: A selection of core Crucible playlists
Each day, certain activities will feature guaranteed Bonus Rewards (specific weapons or armor) for the first daily clear and high drop rates on future clears, keeping these activities relevant.
Activities changes
Along with moving almost all activities to The Portal System for easier navigation, some core activities will receive a difficulty rework. In addition to the Light Level, you’ll be able to choose Rules, Gameplay Mechanics, Enemy Power, and a Scoring System. The more difficult Modifiers you select, the greater the rewards you’ll earn.
New reward system
The issue with rewards has been present in the game since its launch. Developers have tried to fix this many times through Sunsetting and the Crafting system. This time, Bungie is introducing a Tier system, where every Legendary weapon and armor piece will be divided into several tiers. Each tier will grant access to stat bonuses, enhanced perks, and other benefits, with the highest tiers being on par with Adept weapons.
Icebreaker is coming to Destiny 2
Finally, Bungie teased an Exotic Weapon that will be available in the Episode: Revenant dungeon. This time, it will be Icebreaker, the immensely popular sniper rifle from Destiny 1.
Final words
And that’s all Bungie has to say about the game’s future. We may get more information soon, but it’s more likely that preparations for Episode Revenant are underway now. Also, that’s not the only thing they talked about. Players can celebrate Destiny’s 10th anniversary in Destiny 2 starting today, and you can learn more about this in our guide, which will release soon!
