Nintendo Takes Legal Action Against Zelda Art Book Leaker

Nintendo recently initiated legal proceedings against a Discord user. Using the nickname Julien #2743, they were the one who first leaked pictures from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has-yet-to-be-released art book. The Japanese firm has filed a Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown request. And Discord has complied. However, it’s been too late to prevent the images from circulating online.

The gaming giant is determined to track down the individual responsible for said matter. They have filed a subpoena application in a California district court. If granted, Discord will be legally compelled to disclose the true identity of Julien#2743. This would entail the revealing of highly sensitive information. Among these are the individual’s full name, residential and email address, and phone number.

In the subpoena application, the company stated:

“Nintendo of America is requesting the attached proposed subpoena that would order Discord Inc. to disclose the identity, including the name(s), address(es), telephone number(s), and email addresses(es) of the user Julien#2743, who is responsible for posting infringing content that appeared at the following channel Discord channel Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”

Julien#2743 has contended that the leaked images were provided by a friend. But it remains to be seen whether their defense will hold any sway. The art book’s content has no doubt generated immense excitement amongst fans. But Nintendo is committed to safeguarding its intellectual property. After all, it has a long-standing reputation for taking a strong stance on copyright and legal issues. So it was only a matter of time before they took action to address the particular incident.
