With Heroic week kicking off on September 11, top raiding guilds Method, Echo, and Liquid now find themselves in hot water. Several players from these teams exploited a reputation bug in The War Within that allowed them to max out Renown rapidly. Blizzard quickly fixed the issue, suspending all players involved, even the members of the RWF top guilds.
What is The War Within Severed Threads reputation bug exploit
Discovered shortly after the expansion’s launch, the bug let players reach max Renown with the Severed Threads faction within 24 hours. Players could pledge allegiance to all three Severed Threads faction leaders and earn extra weekly pacts using different characters under the same Battle.net ID. Below, you can see Echo’s Gingi is using the exploit:
As a result, many players effectively tripled their reputation gains. Along with that was the early access to all renown rewards and benefits that were far ahead of schedule. Needless to say, this rapid progression threw the game’s balance out of whack, as these rewards were designed to be earned gradually over time.
Top raider banned just before Heroic Week: Consequences?
In response to the exploit, Blizzard began issuing bans to those who took advantage of the loophole. WoW producer Zorbrix shared additional details about the punishments on the Race to World First Discord server. He highlighted the importance of preserving the game’s integrity and ensuring fair competition. Also, he thanked those who reported the exploit and encouraged players to continue competing fairly:
Suspensions range from 4 to 10 days, with some raiders being banned mid-stream. Along with these temporary bans, any rewards gained through the exploit will be removed once the punishments are lifted. This wave of penalties is particularly significant as it coincides with the start of Heroic Week for the Nerub’ar Palace raid. After all, this is one of the most critical periods that could influence the outcome of the highly competitive Race to World First.
That said, despite the severity of the penalties, fans need not worry too much. The Race to World First remains unaffected. Some guilds may feel the impact of these suspensions. However, many players are expected to find ways around the penalties by using alternate accounts or other workarounds. After all, it’s common for top players to have multiple accounts so they can keep playing even while their main ones are suspended.
For now, all eyes are on the top guilds as they navigate both in-game challenges and the consequences of their actions. What do you think about this situation? Let us know all about it in the comments!

They should just permaban the WF raiders who exploit, or when they catch them on an alt account ban the main for double the penalty and the alt account. Being a Face for wow that WF raiders are should be held accountable to a higher degree. Letting exploits go unpunished just make’s more people exploit.
