Just like our Tank tier list and Healer rankings, our usual tier list is based on Season 2 performance data. Since Season 3 isn’t live yet, our predictions rely on upcoming tier sets and class balance changes.

Keep in mind that this tier list is subjective. As always, tier lists are just opinions based on available information. If your favorite class isn’t ranked at the top, don’t worry. Having fun is what truly matters, not just dry stats and rankings. With that said, let’s dive into the War Within Season 3 DPS tier list!

The War Within Season 3 DPS tier list criteria

The War Within Season 2 DPS tier list Criteria

As always, we’ll rank each class and specialization into tiers from S to C. S-Tier represents the strongest, meta-defining specs, while C-Tier includes those that may struggle in Season 3. This War Within tier list considers performance in Mythic+.

Here’s how the rankings break down in this The War Within specializations tier list:

Note

Like any live-service game, the WoW meta can shift with balance updates and tuning passes. We will update our The War Within Season 3 Mythic+ DPS tier list accordingly if any significant changes occur.

This DPS tier list for Mythic+ in The War Within Season 3 is theoretical and subject to change once Patch 11.2 and the Season 3 go live. We’ll update all rankings as soon as balance changes are implemented and early performance data becomes available.

Season 3 Tier sets play a key role for all DPS specs in this list. Unlike previous sets, these are built around Hero Talents rather than traditional class specializations, introducing a unique mechanic across the board.

The War Within Season 3 DPS in-depth analysis

Let’s take a closer look at why certain specs are performing exceptionally well or falling behind. We’ll break down each spec’s strengths and weaknesses and highlight the tier set effects they benefit from.

Note

The section below reflects Season 2 data and is not yet updated for The War Within Season 3. We’ll revise it as soon as the first performance data from Season 3 becomes available in August.

Death Knight

Frost Death Knight

It is one of the most popular melee specs due to the combination of the gameplay feel and damage output. Combined with high survivability for a melee and with some niche utility, like the Anti-Magic Zone.

Unholy Death Knight

Unholy DK is a perfect example of a fun and interactive spec to play, and with recent buffs, it has become a powerhouse in Season 2. A strong alternative to Frost DK, this spec now boasts an even better damage profile while maintaining its solid utility. All that’s thanks to 5% buff to every damage dealing ability and pets!

Unlike Frost, which thrives on burst damage, Unholy excels with its ramp-up nature, leveraging DoTs and pets to deliver devastating sustained damage. Unholy Death Knight brings valuable utility with Death Grip for enemy control, Anti-Magic Zone for group-wide magic damage reduction, and Raise Ally for instant battle resurrection. Additionally, its strong slows, crowd control, and self-sustain make it a reliable asset in Mythic+.

Demon Hunter

Havoc Demon Hunter

Although Havoc Demon Hunter still struggles to compete with top-tier DPS specs, its utility makes it a valuable asset in any group. Chaos Brand provides a crucial 5% magic damage buff, boosting overall team performance. Havoc’s high mobility with Fel Rush and Vengeful Retreat allows for quick repositioning. Additionally, crowd control tools like Chaos Nova and Sigil of Misery add extra versatility. While its damage continues to improve, Havoc’s real strength lies in its ability to support the team effectively.

Druid

Balance Druid

With significant buffs to both single-target and AoE damage, Balance Druid has become a standout pick going into Season 2. The improvements to its core abilities and Astral Power generation have made its damage profile much smoother and more consistent. Starfall and Wrath have received notable enhancements, making both sustained and burst damage more competitive. The changes to Eclipse uptime and resource generation further streamline Balance Druid’s ramping nature, allowing for more frequent and impactful Celestial Alignments.

Beyond its improved damage output, Balance Druid continues to offer exceptional utility to any group. Mark of the Wild boosts ally effectiveness, while Soothe, AoE Silence, Innervate, and Stampeding Roar provide crucial support in high-end content. With these buffs making Balance Druid more competitive across all types of encounters, it stands as a strong and well-rounded choice for Season 2.

Feral Druid

Feral Druid enters Season 2 as a top-tier melee spec with strong burst damage and recent buffs that boost its overall output. While energy starvation still causes downtime, its utility (especially Mark of the Wild) remains excellent for group content like Mythic+.

Though Feral has one of the weakest defensive kits among melee, skilled players can offset this with smart play. The spec’s strong damage profile and top-tier utility make it a compelling pick this season, even compared to Balance Druid.

Evoker

Augmentation Evoker

Augmentation Evoker has fallen to the bottom of the WoW DPS tier list. Either broken or severely underperforming, it now struggles to keep up. Its tier set bonus, which amplified Upheaval and Eruption through guaranteed procs and Essence Burst synergy, now fails to provide enough impact to keep the spec relevant. With weaker damage output and diminished effectiveness, Augmentation is no longer a must-have, making it one of the least desirable specs in The War Within.

Devastation Evoker

A decent powerful caster. Has nice damage options for all necessary scenarios and Evoker utility. The biggest problem with this spec is the existence of Augmentation. It is a little bit better than many will consider playing Devastation throwing. The spec is absolutely valid to play.

Hunter

Beast Mastery Hunter

Although Hunters are known for not providing much utility to the table, BM Hunter is a solid choice for M+. Thanks to the combination of talents and tier-set bonuses, BM can have a high uptime of Bestial Wrath. In terms of the sustained AoE damage, there are no equals to this spec. And while being strong, the spec remains easy to play. All that thanks to intuitive rotation and ability to attack while moving.

Marksmanship Hunter

MM Hunter has seen significant improvements and now performs much better, making it the best class at the top of the DPS tier list in The War Within. While it previously struggled with damage output—sometimes even falling behind tanks—it now holds its own. Meanwhile, Survival has dropped off significantly, making it the weakest option among Hunter specs.

Survival Hunter

This spec has great survivability and good damage. But sadly its damage is not enough to compete with some other options. Add to this lack of utility Hunters provide.

Mage

Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage demands near-perfect execution to perform well. While it’s capable of solid damage, mastering its complex rotation is essential. Another challenge lies in the time it takes for key abilities to ramp up. In groups with low AoE damage or high-end key difficulties, Arcane Mage can truly shine and top the meters. However, in faster-paced runs where trash mobs die quickly, you may struggle to keep up.

Fire Mage

Beyond damage, Fire Mage offers fast-paced and engaging gameplay, rewarding skillful execution with devastating results. Its toolkit includes essential utility spells like Time Warp, Mass Invisibility, and Mass Barrier, further cementing its role as a top-tier spec. With its current versatility, Fire Mage is not the best, but it is a solid pick for a Mage enjoyer.

Frost Mage

Frost Mage is still a competitive option, but sadly nerfs hit it. Arcane Mage is just better in terms of damage. Still, this spec has extra crowd control options, as well as better survivability. Just don’t forget that some players would prefer Arcane Mage in their party. Still you’ve got needed utilities like Arcane Intellect, Time Warp, and Mass Barrier after all.

Monk

Windwalker Monk

Windwalker Monk is another example of a good melee in Season 2. Due to buffs to its damage, as well as better Haste and Mastery scaling, this spec can dish out huge damage in many scenarios. What keeps it back is the lack of uncapped AoE damage. This spec still heads above many others, just not as high as we want it to be. In terms of utility Monks doesn’t have that much to offer, but there are still important things. Paralysis, Tiger’s Lust, and most importantly Mystic Touch.

Paladin

Retribution Paladin

Retribution Paladin is a simple spec with the top damage profile. It has great single-target and AoE damage. It also brings in Paladin utility, such as Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Freedom, etc., which can be extremely viable. Especially if you are not running Protection as your tank.

Priest

Shadow Priest art.

Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest damage profile relies heavily on ramp-up, making them far more effective in longer encounters, thanks to the extended duration of their core cooldown, Voidform. At higher key levels, Shadow Priests may perform okay. However, when enemies die quickly, the spec can feel frustrating, especially if you engage a pack without Shadow Crash ready.

Rogue

Assassination Rogue

Assassination Rogue has improved and now feels much stronger in Mythic+. While it still leans heavily on single-target and priority damage, recent buffs have enhanced its sustain and overall consistency. The spec benefits from solid damage-over-time pressure, strong execute potential, and reliable survivability. Despite its slower ramp-up, these improvements make Assassination a more competitive choice, pushing it higher in the tier list as a solid A-tier pick for Mythic+ dungeons.

Outlaw Rogue

Outlaw Rogue has seen some solid buffs, making it a much stronger contender in Mythic+ compared to before. While its AoE is still capped, recent tuning adjustments have significantly improved its overall damage output and consistency. With better energy sustain, stronger cooldown synergy, and solid defensive tools, Outlaw now feels more fluid and rewarding to play. These improvements push it higher in the tier list, making it a more viable pick for high-end keys.

Subtlety Rogue

Subtlety Rogue sits above average in the Mythic+ DPS rankings but struggles to break into the top tiers. While it has strong single-target and priority damage, its overall performance is held back by limitations in sustained AoE. The current tier set doesn’t provide significant benefits, keeping the spec in a solid but not exceptional spot.

Shaman

(Source: Blizzard)

Enhancement Shaman

This spec remains a strong contender in The War Within Patch 11.1.7, but it has seen a slight decline due to the rising effectiveness of Elemental Shaman. While still one of the top melee options, its dominance in the DPS rankings has been challenged as Elemental brings exceptional sustained damage and versatility. Despite this shift, the spec retains a solid damage profile and continues to perform well across various encounters, making it a competitive pick for players who prefer melee playstyles. Be it AoE, cleave, single-target, or consistent damage, Enhancement excels at everything. Add to that Shaman utility as well. Capacitor, Tremor, Wind Rush, Stone Bulwark Totems, Heroism and Bloodlust, Skyfury, etc. Shamans have answers to many situations and scenarios.

Elemental Shaman

Elemental Shaman was one of the top damage specs before and still remains a powerhouse. Despite the nerfs, it still holds its ground as a solid caster with stronger sustained damage than before. Its simplicity and consistent output make it a viable choice. Unlike in the previous season, you might find it easier to secure a spot, as Enhancement Shaman has fallen off slightly in performance. Having a Shaman in the group is always valuable due to their versatile totems, which cover many situations.

Warlock

Destruction Warlock art.
(Source: Blizzard)

Affliction Warlock

The damage-over-time oriented kit of Affliction Warlock currently results in inconsistent performance. The reason is that the class has a ramp-up nature, while also having some problems with its skill interactions. So it’s just safer to pick any other form of Warlock.

Demonology Warlock

A great all-rounder spec with its single-target, burst, and sustained damage. A perfectly valid alternative to many specs on the TWW DPS tier list. The only reason it is not in the A-tier is that the highest potential numbers for classes in that tier are higher. But again, reaching those numbers requires the most optimal play. The package of Warlock tricks, such as Healthstones, Curses, and Soulstones is included.

Destruction Warlock

This spec has all it needs to be an A-tier if it wasn’t for other DPS in that tier. Destruction has a very high AoE damage. Overall performance depends on the amount of enemies pulled. This spec wants the biggest pulls possible. Destruction Warlock is a viable pick in M+. Warlocks also bring various Curses, Gateways, Healthstones, Soulstones, AoE stuns, etc. So damage is not the only reason to pick one for a run.

Warrior

Arms Warrior

Out of two DPS specs for Warrior, Arms comes out as the winner. Throughout Season 2, this spec received massive changes to damage, improving all of its damage profiles. There may be some dungeons where Fury is better due to the nature of packs and encounters. But on the paper, Arms Warrior is a better choice. Although the utility is almost non-existent, you still have a Rallying Cry to help your party.

Fury Warrior

Getting a short end of the stick, like many other DPS cases, Fury Warrior suffers from capped AoE. The damage potential is there, and in some specific scenarios, Fury has the upper hand. But Arms generally is better.

Lukesays:

Arcane mages are C tier yet they are the top performing prio damage spec, included in god comps. I don’t think Author actually plays WoW…. lmfao

Alesays:

we should all agree that tier lists in beta are…questionable. Things will change weekly until the final release build comes out. Unless the author wants to actually compare ingame data(not just community opinions) on a weekly basis go test for yourself and see how it feels. or just wait for release 🙂

Hisissays:

j’avoue que placé le feral en bas hors qu’il fait plus de dégâts que l’arcane en mm+ actuellement sur la bêta joue t’il seulement a la bêta ?

JSsays:

So…Ele Shaman is the 5th best DPS and Resto Shaman is the best healer… yet Shaman is the worst ranked class??

Stevesays:

Have you just not seen the shaman rework? Ele is competing with arcane in ST and is destroying the AOE meters. Stone bulwark totem has fixed their survivability also.

Randysays:

agreed. the top 5 and top 3s don’t even coincide with the list, actually contradicts the rankings.
