Slay Queen Ansurek in Story Mode and get Enchanted Runed Crest
This week, with the release of Story Mode, you can defeat Queen Ansurek on any difficulty and earn an Enchanted Runed Crest!
Key Takeaways
- Enchanted Runed Harbinger Crests upgrade crafted gear to higher item levels.
- In Story Mode, Queen Ansurek has reduced health and damage.
- Story Mode allows you to defeat only the final boss without receiving any loot from her and facing the entire raid itself.
As a part of the max-level campaign, you can complete a short questline and unlock the Story Mode raid difficulty, allowing you to defeat Queen Ansurek in the Nerub’ar Palace raid and receive a decent amount of Valorstones and an Enchanted Runed Harbinger Crest as a reward.
The Enchanted Runed Harbinger Crests can be used to upgrade your crafted gear to higher item levels. Normally, only Enchanters with Khaz Algar Enchanting at level 90 can craft this type of Runed Harbinger Crests, so getting one this way is a great deal!
How to unlock Story Mode in The War Within
To unlock Story Mode, first, complete the first chapter of The War Within max-level campaign. Afterward, head to Dornogal and find Webster at coordinates [31.6, 62.8] to pick up the quest “Our Chance to Strike.” Follow the short questline in Azj-Kahet, which ends with the quest “To Kill a Queen.” The quests in this chain are:
- Our Chance to Strike
- The Beginning of the End
- A Spy Like Us
- Defense of the People
- Make Them Prey
- A Shot at the Top
- To Kill a Queen
Once ready, you can queue for Story Mode by talking to Kriz the “Loyal” at [31.4, 64.5] in the City of Threads, Azj-Kahet. You’ll find him in a small courtyard just north of the raid entrance. You can queue solo or with up to 10 players in a group.
It’s worth noting that in Story Mode, you’ll only face the final raid boss, Queen Ansurek. If you’re a solo player, NPC dungeon companions will join you so that you won’t be alone. Although you won’t get any loot from the boss, you will still earn rewards for completing the “To Kill a Queen” quest.
The fight is also much easier in Story Mode — Queen Ansurek has less health, deals less damage, and some mechanics or entire phases are removed. Her remaining abilities are also less dangerous. However, the core parts of the battle remain, so you still get a good sense of the encounter without it being too easy.
With that being said, have you tried this Story Mode yet? If so, how do you feel about it? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
