Winter Veil 2024 activities: What you can do
Daily quests
You’re a Mean One… (The Abominable Greench)
- Start:
- Horde: Kaymard Copperpinch [52, 77] in Orgrimmar
- Alliance: Wulmort Jinglepocket [34, 68] in Ironforge
- Both: Strange Snowman [42, 41] in Hillsbrad Foothills
- End:
- Horde: Kaymard Copperpinch [52, 77] in Orgrimmar
- Alliance: Wulmort Jinglepocket [34, 68] in Ironforge
To complete the “You’re a Mean One…“ quest, you’ll need to face the Abominable Greench, who appears outside the Growless Cave in the snowy central region of Hillsbrad Foothills. Defeat him to rescue Metzen the Reindeer. You must be at level 30 or higher to participate in this activity.
Upon completion, you will receive the Stolen Present. It may contain the rare, event-exclusive weapon illusions like Winter’s Grasp and Flames of Ragnaros, catch-up gear, various other rewards, including presents from previous years, and, of course, a Lump of Coal if you’ve been naughty.
Shortcut ride to the Greench: Father Winter’s Helper
Gone are the cumbersome steps of previous years! In 2024, Blizzard introduced a new Winter Veil NPC, Father Winter’s Helper, who simplifies travel by transporting players directly from Ironforge or Orgrimmar to Hillsbrad Foothills. Check out our article to discover his exact location, coordinates, and what to expect from his service:
It’s important to note that this is a one-way ticket, so you’ll still have to use the old methods to turn in the quest quickly.
Tips for easy completion
- If you don’t want to use the service of Father Winter’s Helper and prefer the old ways, make sure you have a Dalaran Hearthstone toy and a regular Hearthstone. For the Alliance, bind the regular Hearthstone to the Chillwind Camp, Western Plaguelands [43, 84]. For the Horde, bind the regular Hearthstone to Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills [57, 47].
- You don’t need to tag or kill the Greench to complete the quest. After the Greench is defeated, the followings remain for a limited time:
- Metzen the Reindeer: 2 minutes
- Stolen Treats bags: 5 minutes
- Talk to Metzen the Reindeer first, and then interact with the bags. Doing so will give you credit for saving Metzen and completing the quest without having to touch the Greench. If anyone chats with Metzen and you interact with the bags, you’ll also receive the same result.
- Tagging the Greench during the battle is unnecessary as he doesn’t drop any loot.
- The fastest way to turn in “You’re a Mean One…” for both Horde and Alliance is to ask a Mage to open the portal to Orgrimmar if you’re a Horde, and Ironforge if you’re an Alliance. Or, if you’re a Mage yourself, you can just teleport directly to the needed city.
- If there’s no Mage nearby or they don’t want to give you a free ride through their portal:
- Alliance: Teleport to Dalaran, go to Stormwind, go to through portal to Boralus in the Mage Tower, and find the portal to Ironforge. Then turn in the quest.
- Horde: Teleport to Dalaran, go to Orgrimmar, then turn in the quest. And that’s it, you’re done. A lot simpler than the Alliance.
- Should you find yourself at the Greench’s lair without the “You’re a Mean One…” quest, there’s no need to backtrack to your starting point. Instead, search among the nearby trees for a peculiar character—the Strange Snowman with the coordinates [42, 41]. Speak with him to pick up the quest on the spot. Once completed, however, you’ll still need to travel to Ironforge or Orgrimmar to turn it in.
A Smokywood Pastures’ Thank You!
- Start:
- Horde: Kaymard Copperpinch [52, 77]
- Alliance: Wulmort Jinglepocket [34, 68]

- Alliance: Greatfather Winter [33, 66]

Speak with Greatfather Winter / Great-father Winter to turn in the quest, and he’ll give you a Smokywood Pastures Special Gift. Open it and you may receive:
- Illusion: Flames of Ragnaros
- Illusion: Winter’s Grasp

Fresh Holly | Transform your mount into something more festive |
Handful of Snowflakes | Shower a nearby target with cascade of snowflakes |
You can kiss the Revelers of any race and any gender. However, after kissing them, you’ll receive a debuff that won’t let you kiss them for 60 minutes. So you’ll have to wait a while before giving them your kiss again.
Turn into a Little Helper
During Winter Veil, you can transform into a festive Little Helper—a fun way to embrace the holiday spirit! Also, this is the requirement for completing the With a Little Helper from My Friends achievement. So, how to turn into a Little Helper exactly?
To become a Little Helper, locate PX-238 Winter Wondervolt machines in the cities. Step into one to transform into a festive disguise. And to make things even more interesting, you can even switch between different appearances.
