We’ll update this guide as new farming methods pop up, so don’t forget to bookmark it. And while you’re here, check out our other guides on earning different currencies in The War Within:

What are Valorstones used for?

Valorstones are a new currency in The War Within, similar to Flightstones from Dragonflight. They serve the same purpose: upgrading the item level of your endgame gear. You can earn Valorstones by participating in open-world events, battlegrounds and arena matches, completing quests, running Mythic+ dungeons, defeating raid bosses, and other 80-level activities.

The logic is simple — the more you play and the higher the difficulty, the more Valorstones you collect. There’s no weekly cap on how many you can earn, but you can’t hold more than 2,000 at a time. However, we’ve outlined a way to exceed this cap below. Also, Valorstones can’t be bought directly and aren’t shared across your account, meaning each character must earn them individually to upgrade their gear.

Where to spend Valorstones

Where to spend Valorstones

Head to the Mythic Aspirations shop in Dornogal, located at [51.8, 42.1], and talk to Cuzolth to upgrade your items or Vaskarn to exchange Harbinger Crests.

How to farm Valorstones in The War Within

Below, you’ll find all the currently relevant methods for farming Valorstones in the new expansion.

Snuffling or Wax farming

The most efficient way to earn Valorstones in The War Within until Season 1 content releases is through “Wax farming,” also called Snuffling. This becomes available at Renown 2 with the Assembly of the Deeps. Once you complete a brief Everyday I’m Snufflin’ quest in Gundergaz, you can begin digging up treasures from Disturbed Earth piles scattered across Khaz Algar.

Some treasures are simple loot, while others may trigger ambushes or mini-events where you battle enemies to earn more Odd Globs of Wax. When farming Wax this way, you’ll also gather small amounts of Resonance Crystals and profession materials that can be sold at the Auction House for extra gold.

You can trade the Odd Globs of Wax at Gnawbles in the Ringing Deeps at [47.6 35.2], where 5x Wax can be exchanged for 10x Valorstones. Collecting 50x Wax and filling up the Wax Contribution progress bar gets you a Firelight Ruby, which can be used to purchase items like professional goods, toys, and pets. In about 1 hour of casual farming, you can earn around 500x Valorstones with some players reporting getting up to 700.

A helpful tip: many players struggle to see Disturbed Earth piles from afar. To fix this, go to your Interface Settings and enable Outline Mode by selecting “Quest Objectives, Mouseover, and Target.” Then, scroll down, find Outline Mode again, and set it to High. This adds a purple glow to these piles, making them easy to spot, even when flying fast.

By saving your Wax until Season 1 begins, you can collect extra Valorstones beyond the 2,000 limit. Pre-farm Odd Globs of Wax and hold onto your Valorstones without turning them in until needed. Once you’ve hit the cap, you can convert your stored Wax into more Valorstones at the start of the season, giving you a head start on upgrades.

While Wax farming is efficient, it can feel repetitive compared to earning Valorstones through dungeons, raids, or PvP, where gear and seasonal content take center stage. However, if you want to stock up before Season 1, Wax farming is the best method.

Farming spots

While Disturbed Earth piles can technically be found throughout all zones in Khaz Algar, we want to highlight a few farming spots with great spawn density.

Azj-Kahet

If you’re farming in Azj-Kahet, the best area is around Weaver’s Lair and the lower section nearby.

Hallowfal

There are tons of Disturbed Earth piles here, especially around a small farm where you can plant Herbalism seeds. This area has massive clusters of dirt, and the farms up north near the world event are also packed with Disturbed Earth. Overall, any grassy spot in Hallowfall is a good place to farm.

You can loop around the entire zone, starting in the fields, flying through grassy sections, hitting the world event, and circling back to the farm. By the time you return, most of the Disturbed Earth has respawned. It’s a fantastic farming spot, with plenty of dirt patches you can gather in a straight line.

The Ringing Deeps

Ringing Deeps does have some good spots, especially near the Kobold areas, where you’ll find plenty of Disturbed Earth piles, though it’s a bit out of the way. There’s also another decent area further down, but it’s in a remote corner with little reason to visit. However, if you want to farm Wax as much as possible, head to Azj-Kahet or Hallowfall instead.

Dungeons

Running dungeons is a fast way to farm Valorstones. They’re also highly convenient even for DPS due to the high player activity and fast queues. This means you don’t have to be a Tank or Healer to quickly join dungeons and farm Valorstones this way.

On Heroic difficulty, each side boss drops about 10x Valorstones, while final bosses give 30x Valorstones. Most dungeons have around four bosses, giving you about 60x Valorstones per run. Since you can complete roughly 7 dungeons per hour, you can earn over 400x Valorstones in just a few hours, plus plenty of gear.

One-time Renown rewards

You can earn a decent amount of Valorstones by increasing your reputation with the four War Within factions: the Council of Dornogal, the Assembly of the Deeps, the Hallowfall Arathi, and the Severed Threads. While it might not compare to rewards like Kej or Resonance Crystals, it’s still worthwhile to support all four factions:

  1. The Council of Dornogal: Talk to Auditor Balwurz to get this currency for your further gear upgrades:
  1. The Assembly of the Deeps. Speak with Waxmonger Squick to earn the rewards:
  1. The Hallowfall Arathi.  Meet with Auralia Steelstrike for the currency:
  1. The Severed Threads. Speak with Lady Vinazian for the rewards:

Open-world activities

Participating in open-world activities is a great way to earn Valorstones. One of the main methods is through the Spreading the Light event. This event’s key reward comes from a weekly quest where you need to light 4x Lesser Keyflames. Completing this quest gives you a Radiant Cache, which contains Valorstones and other rewards.

Additionally, unlocking Lesser or Major Keyflames grants new weekly quests or bonus objectives in the area. These reward you with Hallowfall Arathi reputation and a Lamplighter Supply Satchel, which also contains Valorstones.

In the Awakening the Machine event, you earn Valorstones by surviving waves of enemies and looting Awakened Caches. Here’s how the Valorstone rewards break down by wave:

Another way to farm Valorstones is by interacting with a Worldsoul Memory, which requires Radiant Echoes, obtained from Bountiful Delves. The more Radiant Echoes you spend, the more Valorstones you can earn:

Once a Memory is triggered, you have 5 minutes to kill as many mobs as possible, with rare enemies potentially dropping large amounts of Valorstones. You can keep farming as long as you have Radiant Echoes.
