WoW Housing in Midnight: No requirements, two neighborhoods, and more!

Designed to provide players with a space to call their own and customize to their heart’s content, this new housing system is set to debut with the upcoming Midnight expansion. With hundreds of options to personalize their home and more, players are in for a whole new era of social interaction and long-term progression in WoW.

Customization, of course! There are so many options for you to choose from to build yourself a home that reflects your own unique tastes. The decor options are inspired by Azeroth’s cultures across all existing expansions.
And what’s the point of fixing up a beautiful house if there’s no one other than you to admire it? So, Blizzard has built the system to encourage meaningful social interactions with friends, guildmates, and even other players who love the art of house decoration. You can host gatherings or visit other houses in the neighborhoods.
Speaking about neighborhoods, you can choose to settle in the Public or Private neighborhoods:
- Public neighborhoods. Automatically generated by the game. You’ll be surrounded by other players, not of your choosing.
- Private neighborhoods. You and your guilds or friend groups can create your own exclusive housing districts where you can progress and customize together.
This system shares similarities with Final Fantasy XIV housing, where players can live in dedicated wards and interact with neighbors. Each neighborhood consists of around 50 plots. Enough to keep things lively without feeling overcrowded, and not so few that the world feels empty.
At launch, Alliance and Horde players will be able to claim homes in two dedicated zones based on their faction:
- Alliance Housing zone: Inspired by the lush landscapes of Elwynn Forest, with elements of Westfall and Duskwood.
- Horde Housing zone: Captures the essence of Durotar, complemented by the coastline and influences from Azshara.
Blizzard is limiting the number of zones at launch. This way, you and other players have a bigger chance to remain engaged with each other rather than spreading too thin across multiple regions. The developers are learning from their past mistakes with Garrisons in Warlords of Draenor. Each player had their own isolated space back then, but it often felt empty and disconnected from the rest of the world.
WoW Housing monetization: No pay-to-win system
Blizzard has clarified that Midnight housing will not be a pay-to-win system. There won’t be any restrictive barriers: No frustrating lotteries, no steep gold sinks, and no fear of losing your beloved home if your subscription runs out. Hundreds of furniture items, decorations, and house upgrades will be obtainable through in-game achievements, crafting, and exploration.
Of course, some cosmetic items will still be available in the in-game shop. However, the majority of content will be unlocked through regular gameplay, similar to transmogs and pets.
Houses and decorations will be shared across a player’s Warband. So, all characters of the same account, regardless of faction, can access and enjoy the same home. And this is just the beginning. Blizzard is committed to expanding WoW housing with future updates, bringing more zones, customization options, and features with no barriers in sight.
