Original Post

Since its release, World of Warcraft: Classic has gained immense popularity among players. The initial game’s relaunch and its early expansions has been a huge success. Those expansions are The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. Their Classic versions were released in 2021 and 2022 respectively. But have you ever wondered, what’s next? If so, take a look at this article, and let’s evaluate the odds of Cataclysm Classic coming to life.

What We Know So Far

It’s unlikely that the release of Wrath of the Lich King marks the end of WoW’s Classic expansions, given its massive player base. Blizzard is likely to continue developing this aspect of the game. The expansions that have already been released, particularly Wrath of the Lich King, are widely regarded as WoW’s golden age. Finding a player who doesn’t love WotLK would be quite difficult. As many people believe it to be the best expansion ever.

But will there be a Cataclysm Classic? Even Ion Hazzikostas, WoW’s game director, admitted in his interview that this expansion was “the beginning of the end” for many people. After all, some players have expressed a lack of enthusiasm when it comes to revisiting the expansion in question.

As of now, Blizzard is actively seeking feedback from the community to better understand what the problem is. The developers are determined to enhance the gaming experience for everyone. They even invited WoW players to attend an online Cataclysm Classic survey last year. It included a range of questions aimed at providing greater clarity on further development and players’ opinions towards Cataclysm.

The measures they are taking can prove effective because much time has passed since the original expansion. When did WoW Cataclysm come out? That was in 2010, and the game developers have learned a lot since then. They likely intend to adjust the expansion to be the best version of itself.

Hazzikostas did mention that we might see something similar to WoW Classic’s Season of Mastery in the future. The game director does not rule out the possibility of such a thing happening to Wrath. We may try a different version of WotLK Classic before the release of Cata Classic. But it’s important whether players want to start over after defeating the ultimate end boss.

Blizzard’s willingness to listen to the community and address players’ wishes increases Classic Cata’s chances of launching successfully. And we are talking about a really huge company here. World of Warcraft developers have probably planned the course for their game for several years ahead. The Cataclysm Classic survey mentioned above is one of the tools to prepare for the launch and make the best out of it. Since such a survey has occurred, it basically means that work on the next WoW Classic expansion is already in progress.

The Future of the Classic Branch

Everything above allows us to assume that we’ll have the opportunity to play Cataclysm once again. Even seeing it as “the beginning of the end,” most players do not consider the expansion a complete failure. It had quite a dynamic plot and gave WoW a significant push forward in terms of the game’s technical aspects. Cata can become a great chapter in the WoW’s Classic branch. However, there is a “but” incoming.

Imagine that Cataclysm Classic is confirmed. It would be the fourth relaunched expansion. But some people might start questioning the game at this point: when do we stop? Replaying every single expansion does not seem like a valid option. The reason for WoW Classic’s current popularity is that its three released parts represent the core of the Warcraft universe. Further expansions are not likely to relaunch with that level of success.

Many may find it only fair that WotLK should be the last expansion to relaunch as it is practically the game’s pinnacle. The question remains whether the in-game adjustments to WoW Classic Cataclysm are enough to preserve people’s interest in it. It’s hard to make definitive conclusions as of now. The day might eventually come when the strategy of relaunching the former expansions won’t do anymore. Until then, Blizzard will likely keep working on the Classic segment of World of Warcraft.

The Return of Deathwing the Worldbreaker

There has yet to be any information from Blizzard regarding the details of Cata’s relaunch. If Blizzard keeps releasing expansions as frequently as they currently do, we may expect Cata in 2024, give or take. Still, the Cataclysm Classic release date has not been confirmed by the devs yet.

We should expect the continuation of the Classic Era shortly. Chances are it will happen before Dragonflight has ended. We might see official announcements of what awaits WoW Classic soon.

Players won’t get bored until then. We bet you have a lot to do in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, like leveling up your characters, defeating raid bosses, and completing achievements. If you ever need help with any of that, we’ll be happy to provide you with a WotLK boost. WowVendor is always ready to give you a hand with whatever you need.

Ronsays:

I would hope it dosent end here. If there isn’t any more classic expansion it will be time to find other entertainment.

Barneysays:

I for one would pay millions (if i won the lottery) to be able to play *Cata-classic* MAIN reason is because the old JP system with the ORIGINAL heirloom grind… now all we have to do is BUY them???? THAT in itself has destroyed the entire RECENT series for me, and refuse to play BFA/SL/the HORRIBLE INSAINLY FAST level system of the FAILED ( personal opinion because millions love it) dragon THING… and i HATE above anything in the world (including anything at all in that) the *Level Squish*

Nicolaj Langkjærsays:

jeg håber Cata kommer, synes det var den bedste wow udgivelse ever.
jeg startet med at spille wow i 2004 og hele vejen op til Level 120.

undead priest 80says:

ofc stop on wotlk. they can even create patch 3.6 like in diablo 2 resurrected. some balance fixes, new items, maybe new raid. they can develop everything in wotlk and 0 cata+ needed here

holycrapidinsays:

LFR destroyed the game and the cross realm dungeons also did a huge number on the amount of idiots and asshats that came in, stole your loot, or ruined the chance at it with bad groups that didnt know their role

Rudagorrsays:

is simple cata went to shiz because of lfr , don’t allow idiots to lvl quick and not learn ,they started making game easier for new players ,that was problem the fact original wow vanilla tbc and wolk were popular is because they were hard you had to work to get what you wanted and more importantly you had to learn to progress cata destroyed that with simply looking for raid .period

Curlssays:

Lmfao classic isn’t hard. Classic is only hard for people who have no hands and get overwhelmed by 1 -2 mechanics. Grinding for hours is also not hard. It’s just time-consuming.

Personally, I have been playing classic nonstop since its launch in 2019 and I can say that besides the first Month of Vanilla launch, it and both expansions have been really overrated.

I had not played any of them prior to classic release and went into them unphased by nostalgia. Wrath has been the most disappointing to me. I had heard so much praise beforehand but Wrath is mediocre at best.
