All Wailing Caverns Dungeon quests
Wailing Caverns offers a variety of quests. Some are available as soon as you reach the dungeon, while others are part of longer chains or require actions within the dungeon itself. Some of the quests are faction-specific, for example, Horde has unique quests. Below is an overview of each quest and its requirements:
Quests you can pick up right away:
- Deviate Hides – Level 13
Giver: Nalpak (near the Wailing Caverns entrance)
Objective: Loot 20 Deviate Hides from mobs inside Wailing Caverns.
Reward: Deviate Hide Pack (10-slot bag) or Slick Deviate Leggings. - Trouble at the Docks – Level 14
Giver: Crane Operator Bigglefuzz (Ratchet), The Barrens [63, 37.6]
Objective: Loot a 99-Year-Old Port from Mad Magglish near the cave entrance to Wailing Caverns.
Reward: Experience and Silver. - Deviate Eradication – Level 15
Giver: Ebru (cave above Wailing Caverns)
Objective: Kill various mobs inside Wailing Caverns. The mobs required for this quest are scattered throughout the dungeon.
Reward: Choose from: - Serpentbloom – Level 14
Giver: Apothecary Zamah (Thunder Bluff)
Objective: Collect 10 Serpentbloom from the Wailing Caverns instance. These can be found along the walls and inside the caves leading to the dungeon.
Reward: Apothecary Gloves.

Quest Chain Starter: The Barrens Oases (Tonga Runetotem, The Barrens)
Objective: Collect the Gem of Cobrahn, Gem of Anacondra, Gem of Pythas, and Gem of Serpentis from the four Lords of the Fang inside the dungeon.
Reward: Choose from: - Raptor Horns – Level 13
Giver: Mebok Mizzyrix (Ratchet), The Barrens [63, 37.6]
Objective: Collect Raptor Horns from raptors in The Barrens (outside of the dungeon).

- The Glowing Shard – Level 15
Giver: Sputtervalve (Ratchet)
Objective: After defeating Mutanus the Devourer (the final boss of Wailing Caverns), loot the Glowing Shard from his corpse and return to Sputtervalve. This will start a chain that sends you to Falla Sagewind in The Barrens, and eventually to Hamuul Runetotem in Thunder Bluff for the final step.

Deviate Hides

Pick up this quest from Nalpak in the cave above the Wailing Caverns. The objective is to loot 20 Deviate Hides from mobs within the dungeon. The hides drop frequently from most mobs, so this should be a straightforward task. The quest will be marked as “Complete” when you’ve collected all 20 hides.
Smart Drinks

- Reward: 1350 XP and 10 Silver
- Location: Wailing Caverns
This quest is obtained from Mebok Mizzyrix in Ratchet. Before you can start this, you must first complete the Raptor Horns quest, which is also given by Mebok. Afterward, you’ll need to collect 6 Wailing Essence from creatures inside the Wailing Caverns. The essences drop from Devouring Ectoplasm, Evolving Ectoplasm, and Nightmare Ectoplasm throughout the dungeon. The quest will be marked as “Complete” once you’ve looted all 6 essences.
Trouble at the Docks

- Reward: 1350 XP and 10 Silver
- Location: Wailing Caverns
This quest is obtained from Crane Operator Bigglefuzz in Ratchet. To complete it, you need to loot the 99-Year-Old Port from Mad Magglish, a mob located in a small cave outside the entrance to the Wailing Caverns dungeon. The quest will be marked as “Complete” once you’ve looted the port.
The Glowing Shard
- Faction: Neutral
- Level Required: 15
- Reward: Talbar Mantle or Quagmire Galoshes, 2550 XP
- Location: Wailing Caverns, Ratchet, Thunder Bluff
This is an optional bonus quest that becomes available after defeating Mutanus the Devourer during the Naralex event in Wailing Caverns. After killing Mutanus, loot the Glowing Shard, which will trigger the quest.
To complete it, head to Sputtervalve in Ratchet to learn more about the shard. Then, speak to Falla Sagewind, located near the Wailing Caverns entrance, who will give you the next part of the chain. This 6-part quest chain begins with Tonga Runetotem in The Barrens. The initial part of the chain involves investigating oases in The Barrens, followed by a collection quest to loot Altered Snapjaw Shells from Oasis Snapjaws. Afterward, you’ll need to head to Thunder Bluff and speak with Nara Wildmane on the Elder Rise to begin the dungeon quest.
To complete Leaders of the Fang, enter Wailing Caverns and collect the following gems from the four Lords of the Fang:
- Gem of Cobrahn
- Gem of Anacondra
- Gem of Pythas
- Gem of Serpentis
The quest will be marked as “Complete” once you’ve looted all four gems.
Serpentbloom
- Faction: Horde
- Level Required: 14
- Reward: Apothecary Gloves, 1700 XP
- Location: Wailing Caverns
Pick up this quest from Apothecary Zamah in Thunder Bluff, located in the Pools of Vision beneath the Spirit Rise. The task requires you to collect 10 Serpentbloom flowers, which are scattered throughout the Wailing Caverns. These can be found along the walls of the instance and in caves leading to the dungeon entrance. Note that there are only a limited number of Serpentbloom nodes in the dungeon, so it may require multiple runs to gather all 10. The quest is marked as “Complete” once you have gathered all the flowers.
