SoD 6 PTR vendor gear rollback: Players lose legit Tier 2 sets
Blizzard has rolled back all the items obtained from SoD Phase 6 PTR vendor. However, they accidentally deleted players’ legit Tier 2 sets from the real Undermine vendor.
Key takeaways
- Blizzard’s rollback of items from the SoD Phase 6 PTR vendor led to the unintended deletion of legitimate Tier 2 sets that players had earned through normal gameplay.
- Some players who exploited the PTR vendor items were unaffected. Their Nexus Crystals, gear, and gold remained intact.
- Those who followed Blizzard’s instructions and kept their legitimate gear have seen their hard-earned items removed without compensation.
Last week, we reported on a PTR vendor that was mistakenly left in the live version of SoD Phase 6, plunging the game into chaos. Said vendor disrupted the game’s balance and economy by selling PvE Tier 2 sets and PvP Rank 13 gear for gold. Blizzard quickly warned players not to enchant or sell their old gear, as items obtained from the PTR vendor would be rolled back.
However, the drama didn’t end there. Blizzard recently implemented some hotfixes to address the issue. In the process, they accidentally deleted legitimate Tier 2 sets that players had earned by repeatedly defeating raid bosses to collect enough Tokens or Tarnished Undermine for the exchange.
Just hours ago, Community Manager Kaivax shared an announcement on the Blizzard forum about SoD hotfixes:
“December 11, 2024
Season of Discovery
- Removed gear from player-characters who obtained it from an unintentionally available testing NPC.
- The new relics that are crafted from Ahn’Qiraj are no longer Unique.
- Players dying outside the entrance to the areas of the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, The Scarab Dais, or The Scarab Wall will no longer use the same graveyard as those who die inside Ruins or Temple of Ahn’Qiraj raids.
- Paladin
- Divine Light will now correctly activate Scarab Brooch.”
— Blizzard, Community Manager Kaivax
This is a necessary move to restore the game’s balance. But the situation is more complicated than the devs might have anticipated.
SoD players’ legitimate Tier 2 sets were deleted
Many players have voiced their frustrations on Blizzard’s forum about losing their legitimate Tier 2 sets, which they didn’t purchase from the PTR vendor with gold.
User Kyudokun shared that they had already obtained some T2 pieces, raiding in the original way. They only purchased the remaining ones from the PTR vendor with gold to complete their set. Kyudokun followed Blizzard’s instructions and didn’t touch the PTR vendor items. However, after Blizzard rolled back the items, both the pieces bought from the vendor and those Kyudokun had worked hard for over the last four to six months were deleted from their account—all without any compensation.
Meanwhile, Kyudokun’s acquaintances who had either disenchanted the PTR vendor items, taken advantage of them in the economy, or manipulated item IDs in some way, were unaffected. Their Nexus Crystals, gear, and gold are theirs to keep.
Kyudokun isn’t the only player facing this frustrating issue. User Combustible also mentioned that they purchased gear from the SoD Phase 6 PTR vendor. However, upon receiving the server alert, they sold the gear back to the vendor to recover their gold. Yet, all their original Tier 2 pieces were deleted when the hotfixes were rolled out. Even the bracers they had bought from the actual Undermine vendor after the PTR vendor was removed from the live servers were gone. Combustible also noted that there are logs showing their character in full Tier 2 gear from over a month ago. And yet, now this character has nothing.
Other players have advised opening a ticket and explaining the Tier 2 sets deleted situation to a Game Master. However, many players have pointed out that Blizzard has increasingly relied on automated responses to handle tickets. And when they do take action, they mishandle the situation, as seen when they recently returned the wrong item to a WoW player.
It remains unclear how or when the developers of WoW will address this issue. For now, players can only hope that the number of affected gamers will be large enough to prompt Blizzard to take notice and implement another fix.
