How to get Kill Shot Rune in SoD
Kill Shot: You attempt to finish off a wounded target, firing a ranged attack dealing 100% weapon damage plus 138.435. Kill Shot has no minimum range. Kill Shot’s cooldown is reset if used on an enemy that has 20% or less health.
How to get Kill Shot:
To obtain the Rune, start by finding Jixo Madrocket in Stonetalon Mountains. Jixo will give you a quest called Wild Wyvern Wrangling, which requires you to collect two items: a Hypnotic Crystal and a Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic.
The Hypnotic Crystal drops from Mutanus the Devourer, the final boss in Wailing Caverns. To craft the Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic, you need a Greater Magic Wand and a Wild Magic Essence.
The Greater Magic Wand can be made by an Enchanter or bought from the Auction House. The Wild Magic Essence drops from Foulweald and Thistlefur Furbolgs in Ashenvale. Once you have both items, combine them to create the Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic.
Return to Jixo in Stonetalon with the Hypnotic Crystal and Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic. Jixo will then make a Wyvern Taming Wand and give you another quest called Wrangling a Wild Wyvern. After watching Jixo attempt to tame a wyvern, he’ll give you both the Wyvern Taming Wand and the Rune.
Important tip: If you see Jixo Madrocket in the forest, it means someone just completed the quest. Before starting yours, wait for him to respawn at his house. If you begin while he’s still in the forest, he’ll disappear, and your quest won’t count. If that happens, abandon the quest and try again once he respawns.
You also don’t need to be level 20 to start the quest or get the Hypnotic Crystal from Mutanus the Devourer. But be prepared — the Furbolgs you’ll encounter are level 23-25, so make sure you’re strong enough to fight them.

New Hunter Runes
In Season of Discovery Phase 5, the only new ring Rune for Hunters is the Rune of Meditation Specialization. For details on how to get it, check out our dedicated guide:
Also, unlocking specific Runes has become simpler thanks to Pix Xizzix, who now sells special bind-on-account emblems for 5x Tarnished Undermine Real each (this currency has a cap of 150 and can be earned from Onyxia, Azuregos, and Lord Kazzak). To get these emblems, you’ll need to complete shared discoveries like Dark Riders, Wild Gods, Ley Lines, or Illari Duskfeather.
Once you buy an emblem, you can send it to an alt character, who can then trade it at a Rune Broker in their faction’s city for a class-specific Rune. As a Hunter, you can use these emblems to purchase the following Runes from the Rune Brokers:
- Rune of Close Combat: Costs 1x Emblem of the Violet Eye (becomes available once the Dark Riders questline is completed)
- Rune of the Trapper: Costs 1x Emblem of Dishonor (becomes available once the Illari Duskfeather questline is completed)
- Rune of Firepower: Costs 1x Emblem of the Wild Gods (becomes available once the Wild Gods questline is completed)
You can find the Rune Brokers at these locations:
- Alliance:
- Stormwind: Cut-Throat Alley at [57.5, 26.9]
- Ironforge: The Forlorn Cavern at [53.0, 12.8]
- Horde:
- Orgrimmar: Cleft of Shadows at [49.5, 46.0]
- Thunder Bluff: The Spirit Rise at [22.8, 13.8]
Other Rune changes
In Season of Discovery Phase 5, the Hunter Runes and Spell Book have been updated, along with new ways to obtain them. We’ve also updated our guide with these changes:
- Heart of the Lion is now called Cobra Slayer, moving to the chest slot to the gloves one. Instead of learning it as a Rune, you now unlock it with a Skill Book.
- Kill Command becomes Kill Shot.
- Invigoration is now permanently replaced by Wyvern Strike.
- Beast Mastery moves from the gloves slot to the chest one

An additional location for the Beast Mastery rune. You can loot it from an Empty Trophy Cabinate in a hunting lodge in the far eastern side of Lock Modan. I was a dwarf, not sure if that matters
Hi Aden, thanks for the additional information! We will add your finding to the guide and credit you carefully 😊
