Harbinger of Sin – The bone-crafted Fiend

One of the most striking new models uncovered is the Harbinger of Sin, a chilling figure composed of bones. Familiar to the Wrath of the Lich King players, this entity evokes memories of the Lord Marrowgar of the Icecrown Citadel. While its lore remains unknown, the Harbinger could be a manifestation of the bones scattered throughout the crypts, perhaps even a spectral force rising from the remains of the fallen. Regardless of the implications, seeing such unique models in the Classic Era is good and refreshing.

Dark Riders – The cursed of Karazhan

Next up are the Dark Riders, a group of cursed former merchants whose treachery once angered Medivh. These deceptive traders attempted to sell fake relics to Medivh, only to be cursed by him, transforming them into the vengeful Dark Riders. These spectral figures are bound to the tower, forever searching for true relics to restore their lost honor. Now, players may face them in battle, perhaps reclaiming the treasures they’ve hoarded over the years.

Creeping Malison – The spider with a curse

Though less significant lore-wise, the Creeping Malison is another creature tied to Karazhan’s history. This spider shares a thematic connection to the tower’s previous encounters, notably the raid bosses in the Burning Crusade expansion. The name “Malison” refers to a curse, so it is possible that the Creeping Malison could be an embodiment of the curse, adding a sinister twist to the encounter.

Kharon – Necromancer or Lich?

Perhaps the most intriguing of all the new models is Kharon, a necromancer with ties to both the crypts and the larger world of Azeroth. Kharon is a brand new character — there were no mentions of him in the WotLK expansion. However, this new character seems to refer to the Charon character of Greek mythology.

In Greek mythology, Charon is the ferryman who transports souls across the River Styx to the realm of the dead, provided they have the proper payment—a coin placed in the mouth of the deceased. Charon is often depicted as a grim, shadowy figure, and the association with death and the passage between worlds could offer rich thematic material for the WoW universe, where death, curses, and the afterlife play significant roles.

While the lore behind Kharon remains vague, one compelling theory is that this powerful necromancer could be a key figure in a potential Scarlet Enclave raid, where he may have infiltrated the Scarlet Crusade. Alternatively, Kharon’s transformation into a lich could suggest he’s part of a larger arc involving the forces of death and corruption, potentially leading to an intense encounter with both necromantic magic and lich-based abilities.

There will also be a new set Kharon’s Decree, which players can obtain by collecting items like the Doomsayer’s Demise wand and Shadowbound Grimoire, which adds further intrigue to this character but leaves us with many questions about his true role in the unfolding narrative. This set would be quite strong for Warlocks and Shadow. It adds a strong buff to Shadow Damage, and Creeping Demise dot ability, which is further enhanced by the set effect. What’s next for the Karazhan Crypts?

With these new datamined models, World of Warcraft fans are eager to learn more about the Karazhan Crypts and the enemies that await within. The crypts, long a site of mystery and speculation, may soon hold the answers to many of the questions surrounding Medivh’s infamous tower. Whether the Harbinger of Sin, Dark Riders, Creeping Malison, or Kharon will challenge players remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the undead and cursed forces of Karazhan are far from finished with Azeroth’s heroes.

As we await further updates, the crypts beneath Karazhan continue to beckon, promising a grimdark and thrilling adventure. What will we discover when the gates finally open?

Stay tuned for more news as the Season of Discovery continues to unfold in Phase 7.
