In a recent post on the WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Information thread, Bizzard officially announced most of its policies regarding new servers. One of the major changes is that no GDKP raids will be allowed in Fresh WoW Classic. This change also includes Hardcore servers. Community Manager Kaivax also mentioned that this ban has been enacted only on NA and EU servers for now. We took a closer look at Fresh WoW Classic announcement in our Fresh WoW Classic Servers will be released on November 21! article.

What is GDKP raid
Gold Dragon Kill Points (GDKP) is a changed version of the original Dragon Kill Points (DKP) system. This system was often used inside guilds, rewarding players with DKP scores for many guild activities. Players could participate in raids, help with crafting, perform dungeon runs for guildmates, etc. In other words, the more you participated in the guild’s life, the more DKP you got. This “currency” could be exchanged for gear, receipts, and reagents in dungeons and raids.
After some time, the Gold DKP (GDKP) system was invented. Simply put, GDKP raids and dungeons include auctions for each valuable item, where players gold bid on every needed one. DKP appears in this term to indicate that every member of the dungeon/raid can claim an item for some currency. In GDKP, this currency is gold.
Why Blizzard banned GDKP raids in Fresh WoW Classic
Blizzard tried to explain why it banned GDKP raids in Fresh WoW Classic. Their biggest complaint was that GDKP on WoW Classic Anniversary servers would destroy many traditional guild and social structures once more. They noted that some benefits of this system are understandable. But they decided to bring this policy from SoD servers anyway. The post promises to monitor this change’s impact on the game, so the policy on this topic might have some adjustments in the future.
Community opinion
Many players were disappointed with this change, claiming that the GDKP system is not a problem by itself. They shame Blizzard for not admitting the more important issues. Some people address the fact that, for example, all botting troubles became even more obvious on SoD servers after this policy appearance. Some players even speculate that Blizzard doesn’t want to solve RMT problems because of the profit from subscriptions to such accounts. We discussed similar changes in SoD Phase 2 previously.
Last thoughts
Even though the GDKP ban in Fresh WoW Classic left many people dissatisfied, we might need to give it a try. We hope this change is just an intermediate stage followed by more competent and productive actions from Blizzard in the future.
