Why should you choose Herbalism as your profession?
In Cataclysm Classic, Herbalism is one of the gathering professions available to you. Instead of crafting items, you gather herbs often used in Alchemy to craft potions, flasks, or elixirs. With Herbalism skills, you can use Find Herbs to track and display the location of nearby herbs on your minimap. This tool is beneficial when you’re gathering herbs, as it makes it easier to find nodes. Aside from that, Herbalism allows you to sell different materials regularly to make steady gold or keep them for yourself to use in Alchemy.
In Cataclysm Classic, each profession offers its owner a unique, significant perk. In the case of Herbalism, it lets you use an excellent personal spell called Lifeblood. This spell’s healing power depends on how good you are at Herbalism and how much health you have, giving you a decent HoT effect.
Buff | Herbalism skill required | Details |
Lifeblood (Rank 1) | 1 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 5 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 2) | 75 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 15 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 3) | 150 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 35 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 4) | 225 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 55 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 5) | 300 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 70 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 6) | 375 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 120 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 7) | 450 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 240 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
Lifeblood (Rank 8) | 525 | Boosts your Haste Rating by 480 for 20 seconds and restores 4% of your health. |
An extra cool bonus for Herbalists is the Lifegiving Seed, which you can pick up from any Cataclysm herb. This Seed can turn you into a random herb for a short time, helping you avoid being spotted by enemy players.
What is the best combo with Herbalism in WoW?
The best combo with Herbalism is Alchemy. Combine these two, and you’ll always have plenty of herbs for your Alchemy experiments. By collecting your own herbs, you can craft potions and elixirs without buying them at the Auction House and sell them to other players for a steady income.
Herbalism trainers
In Cataclysm, you no longer need to visit multiple trainers to learn different ranks of Herbalism. You can find trainers in any major city, and they can teach you all ranks. Between skill levels 70 and 125, follow the yellow lines. Upon reaching skill level 125, you can enter the red circle to gather Frozen Herbs. Horde players can remain in this zone until skill level 160 or slightly higher if desired because of a Herbalism trainer in Tarren Mill, whom you can visit at skill level 150. Staying here until skill level 160 is recommended to ensure you can gather Khadgar’s Whisker immediately upon moving to the next zone.

Darkshore
The last few points between skill levels 130 and 150 might take a bit longer to reach.

150-230
- Learn Herbalism Expert
- What you gather: Kingsblood, Liferoot, Fadeleaf, Goldthorn (Feralas only), and Khadgar’s Whisker
You won’t be able to collect Khadgar’s Whisker until you reach skill level 160. All herbs will appear as green for the final 10-20 points. Be sure to visit your trainer again between levels 200 and 225 for further progression.

Feralas

Western Plaguelands

230-285
What you gather: Sungrass
The most common herb in both zones will be Sungrass. We recommend Thousand Needles because, unlike the Eastern Plaguelands, it doesn’t have as much Khadgar’s Whisker, which will be green for you and grey for the last few points.

Thousand Needles
If you don’t have a flying mount, follow the yellow line until you reach the end, then turn back and return to the starting point. Additionally, you’ll need to swim to either Twilight Bulwark or Twilight Withering to reach the area where the herbs are located.

Eastern Plaguelands

285-325
What you gather: Sungrass, Gromsblood, Golden Sansam, Dreamfoil, and Mountain Silversage in Felwood; Golden Sansam and Sorrowmoss in the Swamp of Sorrows

Swamp of Sorrows
The entire area is abundant with herbs that can be found everywhere. If you don’t need these herbs for Alchemy, you can stay in the Swamp of Sorrows until you reach level 350 and skip Outland. However, Outland herbs typically sell for more, so it’s beneficial to head there earlier.

Felwood

Howling Fjord
If you don’t have a flying mount, we suggest avoiding the areas around Utgarde Keep in the middle.

Borean Tundra
The route is easy to follow, whether or not you have a flying mount.

Grizzly Hills
Grizzly Hills has more Tiger Lily than Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord. Leveling here is a bit more annoying until you reach level 375.
