Marathon Ranked maps overview
Each Marathon Ranked map differs having different overall outlook and terrain. Here is the short overview of each map:
Perimeter

Perimeter is the starting zone on Tau Ceti IV and the first map every Marathon player will encounter. Located on the outskirts of a UESC colony, it features open terrain and early industrial infrastructure, including points like the Data Wall, the Hauler, and the Twin Relays – remnants of dormant but still-guarded systems.
Key loot spots:
- North Relay: Rare Lockboxes. The NuCaloric Research Building’s second floor contains rare Implants, valuables, and transmutable resources. The Tox Clear Room houses some rare loot.
- Station: Loot containers in a Tox Clear room in the southwest and a Supply Drop call-in point in the northeast.
- Hauler: High-risk western POI with tough enemies and top-tier loot, including a locked upper floor requiring the Hauler Observation Key and deeper areas with more drops.
- Overflow: POI with tough UESC enemies surrounding a locked room guarded by a Wraith Warden.
- South Relay: A convenient POI with decent loot and slightly less player density than in the north.
Recommended weapons:
- Anything goes. Perimeter serves more as a training ground for you to extract even more weapons on POIs. Focus on your preferrable weapons and you’ll be good.
Tip
Use this map for early loot and for easy contracts completion. Learn about vertical gameplay as it will be even more prevalent on other maps.

Dire Marsh

Dire Marsh is the second Marathon map, offering more PvP expirience compared to Perimeter. Set in swampy wetlands with floating terrain and underground tunnels, it encourages constant engagements and fluid movement between encounters.
Key loot spots:
- Quarantine: Rare Lockboxes and secured resources scattered across contaminated zones, with high-tier loot found in restricted sections and behind Tox Clear areas.
- Greenhouse: Dense loot containers with valuable resources and implants, plus hidden caches inside overgrown labs and sealed side rooms.
- AI Uplink: High-value POI with rare tech loot and lockboxes, including secured rooms tied to contracts and guarded by elite enemies.
- Complex: Multi-building loot zone with numerous containers and secured resources, featuring locked rooms and deeper sections that reward risk with higher-tier drops.
Recommended weapons:
- Sniper rifles with thermal scopes. Dire Marsh is more manageable if you are having sniper rifles with thermal scopes. Close range weapons can be good on this map, but it’s better to minmax when you can.
Tip
Move from cover to cover to avoid sniper fire, bring thermal scopes for better visibility, and stay alert for threats from elevated positions.

Outpost

Outpost is the third map in Marathon, but it is not playable during the Server Slam free weekend. It’s a compact, highly vertical UESC facility packed with hazards like scan drones, tripwires, and harsh weather.
Built around the central “Pinwheel” structure, the map is a tight, multi-level combat zone full of corridors and choke points, making fights chaotic and fast-paced.
Key loot spots:
- Airfield: Lootable containers spread across hangars and loading bays, including tagged crates and contract-related items, but expect constant enemy presence and early PvP pressure.
- Flight Control: Multi-floor POI with valuable loot and locked upstairs rooms, including data archives and terminals tied to contracts, often guarded and contested.
- Orientation: Central hub with multiple containers and key spawns, plus rooftop access leading toward Pinwheel entry routes and nearby locked pathways.
- Dormitories: Dense loot area with containers and access routes toward Pinwheel, including paths requiring Supply Clearance Codes to unlock deeper sections.
- Processing: High-value loot zone with containers, terminals, and locked upper/basement rooms, where keycards and rare resources frequently spawn.
- Pinwheel Base: Central high-tier loot zone packed with containers, valuables, and guaranteed rare items, accessible via multiple locked routes and heavily contested.
- Drone Bay: Key access area for Pinwheel featuring elevator entry using a Conveyance Request keycard, along with loot containers and access panels tied to locked sections.
- Destroyed Wing: Entry route to Pinwheel with breakable barriers and hidden panels, containing loot containers and access points required to unlock deeper high-tier areas.
- Command Wing: Endgame loot section inside Pinwheel with weapon lockers and high-tier rewards, unlocked via multi-step security puzzles involving panels across other wings.
Recommended weapons:
- Combine shotguns and sniper rifles. Focus on either fast reaction shotguns (Like WSTR Combat Shotgun) or sniper rifles (V99 Channel Rifle) to get kills from safe space.
Tip
Positioning and timing are key. When the heat cascade ends, expect squads to move, and catching one in the open can be easy kill. Free kits aren’t enough here, so bring strong gear and plenty of heals, as the map demands high risk for high reward.
