Bungie admits Destiny 2 Tonics don’t work: How much more does not, too?

Bungie finally admitted that Destiny 2 Tomb of Elders Tonics do not work as intended. This is not the first time the studio has confirmed game-breaking bugs weeks after their appearance.

Bungie admits Destiny 2 Tonics don't work: How much more does not, too?

On December 3, Bungie officially confirmed that Tomb of Elders Tonics don’t work. They admitted that the tonic does not increase chances for specific weapons to drop, as intended. This bug is legitimately game-breaking since the whole Destiny 2 Revenant episode concentrates on tonics mechanics. The most saddening thing is that players are getting paranoid that Bungie did not admit problems with other tonics despite them having the same issue.

Since the release of the Destiny 2 Revenant episode on November 19, players have been facing an unexpected problem. Tonics did not just seem to increase the chances of specific weapons drops; they were out of logic. Conspiracy theories started to spread. Some players were almost sure that tonics were drawing weapons that were intended for other tonics. Others were unsure if tonics even work in any way. One thing was known for sure: something was wrong with this mechanic. The community remained in the dark for 2 weeks.

After Bungie’s official confirmation that players were right, everything could start to look better. However, the problem is that developers only pointed out one type of tonics not working. Players started to question whether this admission was reliable. This is not the first time Bungie seems not to know which aspects of the game are working and how. There were other serious cases when players were fooled or couldn’t play the game as intended. For example, the recent ”Weightgate” scandal seriously undermined gamers’ trust in Destiny 2 fairness.

On November 27, Bungie released an article admitting that the essential game principles were making some perk combinations almost impossible to obtain since the numbers of the successful specific drops reached 2 in 1,000, with other same ”weight” perks reaching 400 in 1,000. This meant that this issue had been in the game for years, making hundreds of hours of farming almost pointless for some people. This was a blow to the gut, but not the first one.

Another nail in the coffin is a recent problem with tonics brewing. Some players faced the same issue; they could not craft tonics by their main character. The essential mechanic of the episode is still inaccessible for some people despite this issue being in the game for weeks now. The solution from Bungie was incredible: ”Craft tonics on an alternate character.” The community was boiling.

Community opinion

Most players met news about Destiny 2 Revenant tonics not working very negatively. People do not know what to believe or not now. The feeling that Bungie does not know how to fix their game appears more and more often. On the other hand, some parts of the community try to remain calm and cold-minded. Density 2 has been a beloved game by many for years, bringing joy to players worldwide. Some current issues are fixable; however, some time is needed to figure out how.

Final thoughts

The overall situation about Destiny 2 Revenant tonics is complicated. Players want Bungie to be more transparent about existing problems. The studio needs to regain the audience’s trust, meaning that the damage was done, and that’s for sure. We hope to see how Destiny 2 will successfully cope with the current situation soon.
